AFTER READING THIS!!!!
Well, I've pretty much abandoned my previous fanfic if any of y'all read it, "Balto: Missing Pieces" (see fanfiction.net if you would still like to read the 6 chapters I wrote). I decided that trying to fit events in between the scenes of the movie with flashbacks, etc. was going to be too difficult. I've started again with a new fanfic, (the working title is 'Tragedy's Gifts'), beginning when Aniu is killed, and chronicling the lives of Balto and his 5 siblings. I have come to a point in the story where I have created a character for which I cannot decide on a name.

This is a picture of her. To give you some background info, I will post what I've written so far, and explain her role a little more afterwards.
Tragedy’s Gifts
For six young pups, the world was turned upside down by a single gunshot, but tragedy will open new doors for each of them. Each will discover his or her own destiny, and find the love to replace the one they lost. This is the story of Balto and his siblings after the tragic loss of Aniu. (Epic)
SUMMER 1922
A graceful, elegant female wolf, pure white in color with fiery amber eyes loped back to her den site deep in the forest near Nome, Alaska, carrying a chunk of meat from a recent kill. Six pups tumbled towards her as she appeared over the ridge. Their father, not at all a wolf, stood and chuckled as he walked behind the pups to greet his beautiful mate, the love of his life. She placed the meat at the pups’ feet, and nuzzled her mate, brushing her almost luminous white fur against his, an earthy brown. As she did, her nose brushed against a sled collar: her constant reminder of the fact that this relationship would not be possible forever. He was a championship sled dog, with a responsibility to his musher as well as his team. He could not stay with her in the forest forever. “I love you,” she muttered to him as their pups, nearly three months old, tore into the caribou meat.
The oldest, a grey female with black markings and jade green eyes, snarled at her brothers and sisters as she asserted herself the privilege of having the first bite. The youngest, a mirror image of his mother, waited longingly for his turn, usually the last. He was shy and timid now, but his mother saw that someday he would be noble, perhaps a pack leader or something greater she could not foresee. A brownish grey male, with his mother’s amber eyes, fought with his sister, a black female with grey markings who bore all the traits of a wolf except for blue eyes from her father’s side, over who would eat next. She was not a very strong fighter, at least not yet, but was keen in her wit, and used her brother’s weight against him. She took the second turn. When she was finished, the brownish grey male attempted to take his turn, but yelped in pain as his other sister, golden and white in color with blue-green eyes, who took after her father in that she looked as though she was a pure husky, but had a wolf’s fighting spirit, clamped her jaws around his tail. The golden female took the next turn at the meat, while the brownish grey male stood beside her, making sure he got the next bite. A light brown male with creamy white markings and green eyes knocked him out of place. He was the strongest of the six, but not the most aggressive. The brownish grey pup whined, but then saw his brother, the shy white male, gazing at the meat longingly. When the light brown pup finished, the brownish grey one surrendered his turn to his brother, who had waited patiently the whole time. As the white pup ate, their mother noticed the valor of the brownish grey one. He was not the strongest, most agile, or must cunning of his siblings, but he had the biggest heart. The noble she wolf noted that this would be the child who would one day become a hero.
A raven cried in the distance, and both parents lifted their heads to the sky.
“Follow a raven and you will find a wolf,” the old saying said. This had to be a sign of danger. A howl echoed through the trees. The pack had finally caught up with them, they thought. The moment for the pups’ husky father to leave had come sooner than expected. The two adults exchanged glances, and embraced for what would be the last time. The stately white she wolf motioned towards the golden female pup. “Take Luna,” she said to her mate. “She looks so much like your kind. If she remains here, the pack will never accept her for who she is.” He nodded, and scooped the golden pup up gently in his mouth by the back of her neck. Nuzzling the white wolf quickly, he trotted off towards his hometown, White Mountain, Alaska.
Suddenly, a loudly barking dog burst through the trees followed by a man with a rifle in hand hanging loosely at his side. Upon seeing the large white wolf, he shouldered his gun and took aim, pulling the trigger as the majestic wolf tried to shield her pups. BOOM! The bullet hit her squarely in the chest. As their mother fell, the pups scattered into the woods around the den site. The timid white male remained, still trying to figure out what was happening to his mother. The human picked him up by the fur on the back of his neck, studying him. He could not bring himself to shoot something that young. He knew of a doctor who was studying wolves, and decided to bring the pup to him instead. As he turned to go back to town,
his dog remained. He walked off, knowing that she would return when night fell. The brownish grey pup emerged from the foliage, sniffing the bloodstained ground around his fallen mother. Tears streamed down his face as he desperately nudged her, trying to get her up, but knowing that she never would.
The hunter’s dog felt a sudden searing pain in her heart, the guilt she felt for tearing apart this family. Her blue eyes swelled with tears as the now orphaned pup looked up at her. “What have I done?” she thought. “Don’t cry little one,” she said softly. It was the only thing she could say.
The pup sniffed, and wiped some of the tears from his face, looking up at the husky. “Who are you?” he asked warily.
----------------------------------------
If you haven't guessed already, the 'brownish grey pup' is Balto. The 'hunter's dog' will eventually be the one who, as a result of guilt and sympathy, will find Balto a home with Boris. 'Why does she feel so guilty?' you may ask. 'She's probably done this hundreds of times before'. Not quite. See, she was once in love with Balto's father. When she found out that he had started a family with a
wolf, jelousy turned her blue eyes green with envy. She led her owner to the den site purposefully. When Aniu was shot, she hardly blinked, but to see Balto crying over his dead mother's body hit her hard. As you can see, this is a complex character I've created, and I cannot seem to find a name that fits her. So, I've chosen a few that I like, but I will leave it up to y'all to vote.
Thank you,
