I think just a re-release in theaters would be awesome, but not likely. :(

I don't think that's going to happen. In fact I don't really know what Imax is (I'm not sure we have that in france) but I know that very few films got to Imax (but a few Disney ones like TLK did).

We have very few imax in france,
the main ones beeing 360 domes at the futuroscope and "la geode" in paris, so it's unlikely they'd release balto on that :)
They used to have a regular imax at "la defense" but it closed a few years ago, right before the release of TLK imax ! ;)

But the good news is that a new regular IMAX theater opened a couple of month ago at the disneyland paris park :)
Currently playing robots by disney.

One problem with IMAX releases of movies like TLK or Balto, would be that it would look very blocky on the screen because they lack of resolution and the frame rate is too low.
Even TLK which was massively enhanced for the imax version, you could see quite a few compression artefacts and video frame rate beeing too low during heavy movements.

But either way it would be nice to get just a rerelease of balto in theater. :)
or a HDTV version ;)

I really would like to watch balto in the cinemas, but i really would LOVE if it be re-released in a totally new 2 disc dvd with restored picture and remastered sound.
