Prologue

I was only eight weeks old when I was put up for adoption. My brothers were already adopted and I had no name; I was also the only girl in my family besides my mother.

But I sat in a card board box alone. I remember my mother putting me here and leaving. I remember her coming from the wild and not having a home. Didn’t she love me?

Everyone walked by and soon I fell asleep with no hope of living with a human. Until a boy came up and took me home. I was excited to be loved again and fell asleep in his arms. The boy called me Wolfca.

CHAPTER 1

Here I am at a little over a year old still very young and playful. By now I was almost adult sized.

Every one said that I looked like a wolf, was the size of a wolf and had wolf blood in me. I didn’t think so I was full dog and for one not a she wolf, and my boy Matt who was now almost thirteen years old still loved me no matter how I looked. But Matt was hardly ever home. He was always out with his friends. But I loved Matt I’d die to save him.

Here I sat in my dog house waiting for Matt to come home. I was bored out of my mind. It was the middle of winter and there was plenty of snow. A lot of little kids were outside playing. I walked out into the yard and put my two front paws onto a really small hill in the yard. It was as far as the chain on my color would let me go. I looked around as soon as a turned my head I heard some one called my name.

“Hey, Wolfca!”

CHAPTER 2

I turned my head and saw Matt and two of his friends walking towards me. I wagged my tail and tried to walk up to Matt but the chain pulled me back. He came up to me and started petting me.

“Hey, Wolfca.” He repeated. I started panting happily.

“Dude why did you name him Wolfca?” one of his friends asked. I quit panting. Him?!

“Wolfca is a her and it’s a pretty cool name.” Matt said the boy shrugged.

“Ok.” He said “C’mon lets go.”

“Ok, see yah Wolfca.”

I wanted to go with Matt but I’ll give him his space. I barked a goodbye and went over to my dog house and lay down. Then an idea sprang into my head. My collar was lose so I could easily slip out of it and take a walk around town. I worked my way out of my collar. When I was free I started running around. I felt so free.

“Hey there.” A male dog’s voice called to me. I stopped in my tracks and looked back. It was Demon the German shepherd. I should have known he has liked me from the time I came to town and has harassed me ever since. He walked up to me and licked me on the muzzle. I snarled at him. He just laughed.

“So what’s a lovely wolf like you doing off her chain?” he asked and began circling me. I kept turning my head to keep my eyes on him as much as possible.

“Ladies. They can’t keep their eyes off me.” He laughed and stopped in front of me and said “But you’re the only girl for me.” He licked my muzzle again. I snapped at him and started snarling.

“Knock it off.” I said

“Why?” he asked he put one of his front paws around my shoulder and licked my cheek. I snapped at him

“Back off!” I snarled this time he backed away.

“Ok, ok.” He said and ran off.

CHAPTER 3

When he was out of site I began looking for Matt. After a while I heard talking and laughing in an ally. I’m sure I heard Matt’s voice so I continued down the narrow path. I looked around a corner of a fence and there was Matt. He was drinking beer with his friends.

He looked over and saw me.

“Wolfca!” he gasped loudly. I walked over to him and looked at him disgustedly. His happy expression turned to anger. He stood up and hit me with an empty beer bottle. The glass shattered and something cold and wet ran down my head and onto my snout. I licked it and it was only beer. I whimpered but stood beside him.

“You better not tell mom.” He said. Clearly he has had too much to drink; considering I can’t talk to people.

He took a broken skateboard “you better not tell.” He repeated. He hit me with it once. I fell to the ground and looked up at him.

His friends laughed. My boy Matt. The boy who I expected to take me and lead me through a fire. How could he betray me? He raised the board to strike again but paused. The look in my eyes was sad and painful. But this didn’t make him feel pity for me. He hit me with it again. There was no were left to turn. Something came over me and I lunged me body towards him and bit his arm. He let out a cry in pain and grabbed his arm.

“Why you little” He started. He walked up to me and was about to smack my face with the back of his hand but was stopped by one of his friends.

“Wait!” he said “I have an uncle who knows someone who breeds dogs to fight.”

“Fair enough punishment.” Matt said and looked at me with an evil grin.

CHAPTER 4

It was those words from Matt cut me deep. It was a wound that I could not lick clean. He took a rope off of some ones fence and tied it around my neck. He gave it to his friend and said

“Take her to your uncle. Take her far from here. Take her to a place were the meanest dogs fight. I have no use for a wolf.” And walked away with his other friends.

Those words cut me even more. I thought we were friends. I tried walking after him but I was pulled away but one of his friends. I howled for him. But he didn’t look back.

His friend leaned in and whispered in my ear.

“You’re the end of your future is near.”

I was taken away to his uncle’s house. He knocked on the door of this really beat down house. A man wearing a robe came to the door.

“What, what?!” he demanded

“I have a dog for your friend.” Matt’s friend said

“Well bring him in.” The uncle said

“It’s a girl.”

“What?” The uncle gasped and began laughing “A girl. She you last two minutes.”

The boy shrugged. The uncle leaned down and looked at me. He began petting me under the muzzle then on top of the head. I folded my ears back on my head and turned my head. He looked at my eyes and then at my paws.

“She’s part wolf.” the uncle said.

“How do you know?”

“Look at her, yellow eyes, big paws her fur color and markings.” He started “My friend could make a good profit off of her.” The uncle took the rope from Matt’s friend and took me inside.

CHAPTER 5

Late that night I slept in the basement. It was cold and damp but I didn’t whine at least I had had some were. I rested my head and shut my eyes and fell asleep.

I woke up and I was eight weeks old again. I sat by a tree while my brothers played. A shadow came over me. I looked up and it was my mother. I smiled and she smiled back.

“Momma where’s papa.” I asked. Her smile faded.

“He’s not here. There was an accident.” She said

“What happened?” she sat down beside me

“Well, he, his musher and his teammate were out late sledding and they were well, run over.” She started “He was not killed at first and his friend was dieing. He went to town to get help but no one would help so he went back and was shot.”

“How do you know this momma?” I asked as I lowered my head so she wouldn’t see my tears.

“I witnessed it.” She said softly.

“Oh.” I sniffed. She bent down and licked my cheek. And said

“I don’t think he was in pain for long.” And got up and walked over to my brothers. I got up and walked to a near by pond. I bent down and looked in the water my reflection turned into my dad’s reflection. A tear rolled down my cheek and onto my snout. It dripped off and splashed into the water. My reflection turned back.

“I know you don’t like it when I cry papa.” I whispered while still looking at my reflection. “But it’s hard to deal with the pain of loosing your more and more every were I go.” I looked to the sky the sun was almost completely covered by the clouds which made beams of light.

I woke up with a jolt. I was back to being a little over a year. I don’t know why but I was panting heavily. I looked out the basement window which was nearly on the ceiling; it was dark out still so I rested my head again and fell asleep.

I woke up in my mother’s mouth. We were in town and she was taking me to a box. She put me in the box with my brothers. I put my two front paws on the edge of the box and asked

“Momma what’s going on?” she just smiled as a tear ran down her cheek and left.

There was a white flash and I woke up. I looked at the window and it was sun rise. I got up and stretched then began walking around the large room. It was nothing much but a bunch of pipes.

CHAPTER 6

The door opened and the lights turned on. I looked at the staircase it was the uncle and he was carrying a rope. He walked down the stares and over to me. He put the rope around me and took me upstairs and out side. I went without a fight.

My with my head hung low he took me to his pickup truck and put me in the back of it then drove off.

I looked at the sky. It was partly cloudy and the sun was trying to break through. The air was misty and smelt like rain.

I flashed back to when Matt first adopted me. We would play on the beach and he would hold me up to the sky with me facing him. He would smile then hug me. I felt so home.

I smiled on those memories then the truck came to an abrupt stop. I flew forward then looked out of the side of the truck. I was in a large town not a city but a town and we were parked in front of a house in a small nieborhood. The back of the truck opened and the uncle took me out.

The road hurt my paws considering I’m used to lush land such as snow and grass. I sniffed the ground, it was stained with blood almost all over. I was tugged away and taken to a house. A guy opened the door.

“Hey,” he started “Is this her?”

“Sure is.”

“Good, good.” He took the rope and took me inside and the uncle left.

CHAPTER 7

I spent the rest of that year training for fighting and looking out the window and seeing dogs fight on the street. Now at the age of two years I was ready to fight. I was put out in the street surrounded by people. They started my out with some one weak and about to die he could barley get onto all four.

I didn’t want to kill this dog, he had no fighting chance. I walked over to him and began licking his cheek. The people began yelling at me. I heard footsteps behind me and when I looked back I was hit with a horse whip.

I was hit repeatedly until I was forced to fight. The sick dog was dieing anyway I figured it would put us both out of pain for me to just killed him. I bit the back of his neck and shook my head rapidly. The dog whimpered and squirmed but it didn’t take long for him to die.

I was given a pat on the head and taken back to my new home. I looked back, the lifeless body of the dog lay gown. He had died with his eyes open I looked at his eyes, they were full of pain. A tear rolled down my cheek as I turned my head to look at my new home.

When we got inside there was a male Chinook sitting at the door. He walked up to me.

“I saw you through the window.” He started “Killed your fist victim.”

“That’s not something I’m proud of Shadow.” I scolded “It hurts.” I lowered my head.

“Hey, I know how it feels I remember my first kill.”

“Did you like it?” I began raising my head

“Well…yah I felt dominate.” He replied. I shook my head.

“Hey, I’m only kidding although I did feel powerful it wasn’t a good feeling.” He said

“You’re really funny Shadow.” I said sarcastically

“I try.” He said. I nudged him and ran. Ever since I move here he had been the brother I never had.

CHAPTER 8

I spent those three months fighting. Each dog got tougher and tougher. But I had to fight in order to eat, not get beaten or to just live. But one day my life when from bad to worse. The vet said I was expecting five pups. My trainer was furious but still kept me fighting. I was beaten and forced to fight. Shadow tried to protect me but he was locked into a room. After nine weeks later my litter was born.

Only one of them was alive. The rest had died from me fighting. My pup was a light brown with a white muzzle and black tips on her paws. I loved her so but I still cried for her siblings. So did shadow. We named her Eternity. About eight weeks had passed and Eternity was able to walk and talk and play. Shadow and I protected her from our trainer with our lives and loved her with all are hearts.

I knew that what hurt the most was not the cut or scars but the fact that I couldn’t live another day or fighting. I had to protect Eternity. But I was taken and put into the street. I positioned myself for fighting. They let loose a huge rottweiler. He came running at my like no tomorrow. I took a deep breath. One he opened his jaws to bight me I jumped over him. I had to boost myself off of his head. My way of fighting was brains not brawns and he was all brawn with no brain. I looked up and my daughter was looking at me through the window. Shadow was with her. But the expression on my daughters face was full of shock and disappointment. This distracted me long enough for my competitor do get a hold of my front right leg. He bit up by the shoulder. I yelped and bit the back of his neck. My jaws bit down as hard as they could. I heard his skin break. He tossed my aside. As I lay there on the ground I looked up and there was my trainer. He took a club and started beating me with it. I got up and looked at the window. Shadow and eternity were still looking at me. Eternity had tears in her eyes.

CHAPTER 9

I ran towards the rottweiler and bit his through. He whimpered and pulled free. I snapped at him again but he got the back of my neck and pinned me down. I flashed back to when I was first put into the street to fight. Then to when I killed my first competitor. I looked up and the window Eternity and Shadow were both sobbing. I whispered a goodbye and rested my head. I knew now that I was a wolf. I thought back on all those kills and how the wolf was brought out in me. The rottweiler shook his head for a long time and pulled up. He ripped out some of my muscle and I was paralyzed. I couldn’t look around but I know my family was looking at me feeling shock, pain and sadness at the same time. Just then my competitor bit down on my face. But something pushed him aside. It was Shadow he was fighting the rottweiler and was winning. But Eternity stopped and looked at me. She was crying. I was paralyzed so I couldn’t say goodbye.

But I knew she knew I loved her and she and Shadow were my whole world. I closed my eyes and died slowly.

good and sad. Dog fighting isn't my specialist part but I can say it was raw 'illeagal' sport in those times for useless dogs.

Good way to gain money however.

It had small spelling errors but I didn't mind of them because I prefectly could translate easy words into Finnish in my head.

It was sad and good all I can say
