Note: The title won't be "Aniu's Story" when I post it on the site, I just needed a descriptor for it.
This teaser is rated "G".
Summary: Long before the great relay of antitoxing from Nenana to Nome, before the humans had thoroughly even developed a language to call their own on the North American continent, wolves reigned as kings in the forests of the west. Fierce warriors and hunters, quick thinkers, and desperate lovers, the moon spirit Celest had always favored them over the other creatures of the world. And even among her favorite creatures she, as did the other spirits, hand picked her own chosen one, one who would be endowed with a great destiny and in turn pass on such destinies to her children and grandchildren. One with a pelt as white as snow and a name to match.
Okay, so incase you didn't understand that, this fic is obviously going to be about Aniu and her life before she became the goddess of the wolves. The piece of the story below had been taken randomly and is not going to be in the first chapter, it's just a small section to get you thinking (much like the teaser trailer for a movie) and to hopefully see how you like the idea. It may be reworded slightly in the full version of the story, but it should be more or less that same. Enjoy!
A tall black male wolf stood silently, watching the sleeping form of a pure, white pelted female. His emerald like eyes washed over her body, taking in the sight and a smile stretched across his face. The female awoke with a start and his ears and tail lowered, the smile vanishing more quickly than it had come.
"Oh...uh, sorry to wake you, Aniu. I was just, admiring the meadow and..." the young male struggled.
Aniu smiled up at him warmly, amber colored eyes finding his with ease, though he did not return her gaze, almost, she thought, as if he were ashamed. "Norin, why are you acting so? It is I who should be submitting to you, not the other way around. You are Kishi's son, the heir to the throne of the pack, and I'm just the beta pup. Besides, we've been friends since childhood, we really don't need to act so formally around each other, you silly goose."
Grinning and pushing herself onto her feet, she nudged him and watched with a kind of satisfaction as is sent a slight shiver up his spine. He couldn't have been more than 2 years old, just a little older than Aniu herself. His pelt had no blemishes anywhere to tell the tales of his battle and his eyes held no signs of great wisdom, only the hopes and dreams of a young wolf, and a potentially foolish nature. He coughed lightly and then grinned back, but weakly.
"Yes, I suppose you're right, I just..." He turned his eyes away from her. "...I just want to try and be as polite as possible when I'm around you. It's my job."
Aniu chuckled again. She had known for a while that her best friend had developed a crush on her, and she also had had a wonderful attraction to him. Though as timid as he was when it came to wooing females, she was beginning to think she'd have to make the first move. After all, neither of them would ever be able to forget the fiasco from Norin's first crush. Even his younger brother, Ezno, still teased him about that. But of course, Ezno teased him about everything.
"No, you're job is only to be my best friend, yourself. And it would help a lot if you loosened up a little more."
"Hey! You two love birds!"
Norin's ears sunk even lower as both his head and Aniu's turned toward the familiar voice. Another young male, gray, jogged up to them with a wicked grin on his face. Yellow eyes, paler than Aniu's studied them both, lingering on Aniu much longer than Norin while he spoke.
"Mom says it's almost time for the ceremony, Norin. They're calling upon Celest and some of the other spirits for a good hunt tomorrow night." Ezno's gaze flitted back over to Norin, and Aniu felt herself shiver unconsciously.
"Okay Ez, we'll head on back with you." Norin had relaxed considerably with his brother's appearance, though Aniu had become slightly uneasy. Why couldn't he have just waited a few minutes longer to summon them?
"It's too bad we're not too young to attend these things anymore," she sighed. "I'd almost rather be playing with you two than summoning the spirits again."
To be continued....
