Malamutes are a lot bigger than Husky's and most of the time they have brown eyes. They have a bigger body than the husky.

A husky is smaller and they're the ones that usually have the blue and brown eyes or two different color eyes but sometimes they can be the same color, It's easy to tell them apart.

OK I could go on and on and on about what differences are but here I'll make it short and sweet. Here are two links to the American Kennel Club's website for the breed standards ( aka: what the breed's traits should be )

Siberian Husky: http://www.akc.org/breeds/siberian_husky/index.cfm
Alaskan Malamute: http://www.akc.org/breeds/alaskan_malamute/index.cfm

Go there and look at the differences between the two.. there you go ;) If you want more detailed information let me know what you want to know more about them...

One thing I'm not sure is in there but Alaskan Malamutes were breed to pull heavy weight over a shorter distance while Siberian Huskies were breed to pull lighter weight over a longer distance... In other words Siberian Huskies were breed for their endurance.

Malamutes are much larger than Huskies. I have one of each, and the Malamute is a good 3 or more inches taller than the Husky, although the Husky is only 1 year old. The Malamute also weighs a lot more. When your laying in bed and one of them goes to lay down on you, you can always tell which one it is. The Malamute also has a lot more hair. They're both sweet dogs though.

ok well this is sure the question to ask me  ..well the difference between a siberian husky and an alaskan malamute are

1. Huskies are alot faster then malamutes

2. malamutes are stronger

3.malamutes are alot bigger the huskies

4. huskies have blue eyes and very very rarely do malamutes get blue eyes

5.malamutes arnt as hyper as huskies

6. malamutes usally can not jump a fence 6 ft and over like a husky can

7.malamutes have longer puffier fur

I know all of this because im good at dog breeds and when mt dad was a kid he had an alaskan malamute and today I  :D have a siberian husky
7.huskies

Husky's are smaller and they are built for running long distances.

Malamutes, are bigger and they are built to carry heavier things to short distances.

They are NOT "twice the size". This is what comes of someone who's not informed on a subject but throws around things anyway just to throw their two cents in. Not very smart. That's no better than all the kids in the Balto 1 board who keep saying (in the "Steele: Malamute or Husky" topics, of which there are at least TWO) that "Alaskan Malamutes can't have blue eyes"...as if they are speaking with some sort of authoritative knowledge. Not very smart.

Here, from BowTie Publications' Dog Bible (a definitive resource) are the physical statistics for both breeds (my added notes are in italics):

Alaskan Malamute:
Origin: U.S. (actually, Alaska before it was a U.S. territory)

Height: 23-25 inches (58-64 centimeters)

Weight: 75-85 pounds (34-39 kilograms)

Siberian Husky:
Origin: Siberia

Height: 20-23.5 inches (51-59.69 centimeters)

Weight: 35-60 pounds (16-27 kilograms)

Steele could be a mix idea.gif Well 2 cents is good thing, sometimes you learn from it. Even so people may think that Alaskan Malamutes are bigger, just how they see it. I was going to get Malamute before my husky, but I didn't just because they were bit too big for me even so they are close to each other.
