I've noticed that some posts on this forum are hard to understand because of spelling errors. I did some searching, and I found SpellingCow, which is a spellcheck program that can be installed into any web form. I think that this could help us understand some of the more unclear posts.

It's not a bad idea, but I strongly think that the kind of people who make the worst spelling errors, would not care about using something like this.

I think the program helps with that too. Other forums that I've been to use it, and when you click submit, a spellcheck window automatically pops up and it won't let you submit your post until all of your errors are either ignored (manually), or corrected.

Yes but no, people are already complaining that it's too long to post and that they wanted a "quick reply"
And not to mention that not everyone here has english as a primary language.

This would make many posts much easier to read, I hate the chat speak posts, it's so annoying and I just can't understand them, I've tried typing in chatspeak but I can't because I can't read my own writing then and I've always typed/written in full words and badly spelt posts are'nt any better, OK if you're not very good at spelling fair enough and if you don't speak english as a primary language then it's fine but it's when people just don't bother, I always check my posts before I click submit so I can be sure that people can read it, what's the point in posting if people can't read what you wrote? Redhusky is right, what is wrong with actually typing what you want to say?

Agreed. And SpellingCow forces you to change all of the mistakes found in your post before you submit it. I'm not sure if it'll automatically change Chatspeak though.

Another option would be to write the article story etc in Microsoft Word using it's good spellcheck then copy-paste it into Balto Source.
also I have a spellcheck option in my Windows Internet explorer, its not as good as the Word one but i find it helpful.

I think this would be an amazing idea, because then it WOULD make it harder for people to use ChatSpeak. It would force them to manually ignore it, or fix it. And it would help those who do not know how to spell. I know that if it was installed, that it would be helpful to me too; when I find a mistake and realize how it should be spelled, I generally take that to heart. And if it takes a few extra seconds to post, it will NOT kill anyone. ;]

I think, if people are so lazy not to write a few simple words, their opinion should be ignored. Come on, I am Russian and have near perfect grammar.
I think this was discussed before, only with fanfiction spellcheck. Like someone already said, use Microsoft Word and copy+paste, or just make your best attempt.

Although I hate chatspeak (or what is it called again?), but I feel that installing a spell-check would prove to be an obstacle to those whose native language is not English, and who have been denied the privelige of a proper education in the matter. That includes me.
