Donno if theres a topic on this already or not but here goes.....
Heh I was wondering this for a while now and got a taste of it first hand myself. Lol My brother was over visiting for out of town and while I was at work he decided that he would go through my DVD”s, now me being the Balto fan that I am have all three. When I arrived home from work he promptly asked me about them. “You bought Balto?” To that my replay as “Yeah and?” “All three? Come on.” “uhh yeah?” “But dude all THREE?” At this point I could see he wouldn’t let it go so I gave it to him plainly. I explained that while they were animated I liked the shorelines enough to buy them and even if they were intended for kids (no offence anyone) I still enjoy them as much as I would any movie. Needless to say he didn’t have much to argue with me about regarding Balto after that.
I’m sure this has happened to many others here on Balto Source, if so I (and many others I’m sure) want to hear your story.

I've never told my friends that I'm a Balto fan. I dunno why I haven't, but I guess it's for fear of rejection or being made fun of. I know it sounds silly, but still, when I've known my friends for my entire life, it's kind of hard to tell them that I like Balto. I'm almost certain that my mother knows though.

I've never told my friends about it and don't really want to, but my family knows and I don't really care what they think as they should just accept that I like it.

Oh ma gawd...Missouri must be a whole different world from you guys!! Nobody, especially my friends, makes fun of me or anyone else who is a Balto fan! One of my two friends love the Balto movie. ^^ A'course only one of then has seen the first AND second, and the other has only seen the first. But oh my gawd... I can't believe people actually know enough about the Balto movies to make fun of you. See, people where I live don't know much about Balto, and if they did, they still wouldn't make fun of people who like it.
But if my brother gave me a hard time like that, I'd yell at him to leave me alone and put the tapes down... (not too loud, though...)

I don't care if people make fun of me for liking Balto.
My brothers tease me, but they don't actually mind that much. My friends don't mention it. People in my class make fun of me for it, but considering majority of the people in class like animated Disney movies (Finding Nemo, for exampe) they can't actually make fun of me, because they like animation movies too.

It might happen if I told any of my friends about it. Even if I did, I wouldn't dare mention this site to them. Most of them wouldn't see behind the fact that it's a movie intended for kids, and If I mentioned this site, then at least one of them would try and cause trouble here in the forums by posting really stupid things or just act like plain, stupid idiots. ... Sometimes I wonder if I'm really friends with them or not. Sometimes they are acting immature for their age of 15, other times they pretend that they have "issues" so much that I wonder who they really are. I want to say more but I think some of them shouldn't be said here.

well, one of my friends rolls her eyes whenever she sees me looking at the balto source, but in a good-natured way. what i thought was pretty cool, though, was that some upperclassmen saw me drawing a wolf (in a balto-style) on adobe illustrator at school and were like, "hey, that looks like balto,". i explained that it wasn't actually him, but they didn't give me a hard time or anything, and they saw me go to the balto source quite a bit during class freetime and never said anything against it. i thought that was really kinda neat^^ and i have a couple friends who've seen the movie and enjoyed it (but not as much as i do!). my brother teases me about it, but i just ignore him. i think he really does like it, at least a little, and justs likes to bug me.

With me, a lot of my friends knew that I loved animated films, particularly Balto and TLK, when they met me (I still show off my photo at the Balto memorial any chance I get ) and while not all of my friends are animation fans themselves, for the most part they are all able to sit back and go "OK, that's your thing, I can live with that". As for a hard time, I haven't really found myself in that kind of situation but in actual fact what I tend to find is that when my friends find out, they end up revealing that they actually like those movies themselves, so in a way it's been a great ice-breaker for me at times.
My view is that there are probably a lot of people out there who would still enjoy Balto and other animated films, but they view it as a sort of guilty pleasure or something that they should only like in private, so it feels all the more rewarding when you help to bring the fandom out in someone else.
