HOW do you rip DVDs and so on???
*sigh*
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING TO ASK THIS QUESTION?
Whatever...looks like I have to make
ANOTHER guide to making this the simplest thing to recognize this to be as simple as to screw in a lightbulb!
GUIDE:
___________________________________________________________
1. Get DVD
2. Put DVD into DVD Drive
3. Obtain DVD ripping program such as DVDDecryptor (which is illegal and was banned- find a new program)
4. Open DVD ripping program
5. Look in VIDEO_TS folder of DVD- inside there will be .ifo (Information), .vobs (Video Objects), and .bups (Back-Ups) all listed such as VST_1_01.vob
6. Take all the .vob files listed (as each DVD has different .vob selections for the actual movie- because some of those .vobs are menus and submenus). .bups/.ifos are recommended to take, because they may be used for video streams later
7. Once these DVD files are saved to your harddisk of your computer, they aren't videos yet, they must be converted to video format
8. You now need a conversion program. You may be lucky to find a freeware program (I normally use vStrip0.8 for advanced settings and setup- not recommended for about 97% of people at this forum). Chances are you have to buy a program like TotalVideoConverter 2.6 like I do.
9. Once with a conversion program, open up those saved .vobs first. If the program asks for the .ifos, then open those.
10. Heres the problem: now you must find the actual video within those .vobs right now.
11. .vobs are listed in numeric order along with the prefix VST (or similar). A DVD may look the following:
VST0_01.vob
VST1_00.vob
VST1_01.vob
VST1_02."
VST1_03."
VST1_04."
VST2_01."
VST2_02."
VST3_01."
VST4_01."
VST1_01.ifo
...and so on. THe files follow this format: (VST*title*_*sector*). You
normally want to select the title with the most sectors below it (normally ignoring the 00 as it is usually the FBI warnings)
12. Once the correct files are in place, you can choose an export file (your new video format- .avi, .mpg, etc.
13. Choose destination for new movie.
14. Convert
15. Finished! Enjoy the ripped version of your movie!
16. Delete remaining .vobs/.ifos/.bups- as these waste estimated 4-8GB of space on a harddisk.
(unless you want to edit, change, or re-convert the file because of an error in processing the movie in the program)
Troubleshooting:
1. Don't ask- I probably won't know without some visual aid as to the problem. (remember that I use vStrip0.8- which is different than most of these programs)
2. This guide is only the basic guidlines of the technique- your DVD may not go 100% perfect sync. with mine. Try experimenting (use other titles with many sectors, etc.)
