Summary: This is a fanfiction about my character...Nero. His dad is a McKenzie River Husky, and his mom is a German Shepherd. Oh, and when you read Nero's thoughts and feelings, I'm describing his thoughts, not him. So no, he's not brimming with vocabulary.
Gem, Avalanche (who is Storm in Cotton Grass's art. Not REALLY my character, changed relative position and name), Jethro, and of course, Nero, are my characters. DO NOT steel them....or else.

Her warm fur embraced me, making me feel warm and safe. I knew when her warm, welcoming fur wrapped around me, nothing could touch me. I knew I was safe when I smelled the heavenly aroma of hay in her fur. I suckled, feeling warm, sweet milk trickle down my throat, until a gentle paw pushed on my forehead.
"Alright, now. That's enough for tonight," mother said. Her voice was like an angelic chorus.
"But mama! I'm not done yet!" I said to her.
"You can finish in the morning, it's time to sleep now," mama said.
Then mama stared out the barn door, looking at our neighbor's pasture.
"I keep smelling things over there that I never smell on this farm....my curiosity can't take it! I have to explore!" mama said, seemingly excited.
She got up, the warm, safe feel abandoning me. She walked in her graceful gate toward the barn entrance, but before she could leave, daddy said "Gem, the humans won't be able to know you're not a wolf in the dark! German Shepherds like you look exactly like wolves...except a different color!"
"Don't you worry. The humans are asleep, and so is Jethro," mama said, sounding very reasonable.
"Jethro is a border collie. His job is to keep anything suspicious out of the pasture, and he won't recognize you in the dark," daddy said.
"Jethro will know my scent. I promise to come back," mama said.
She licked daddy, and then walked over to me. Her warm, pink tongue massaged my cheek.
She walked out the barn entrance. I scampered over to the entrance to watch her, daddy joining me.
I only saw her shadow, and it made her seem less graceful because I could only see paws coming up and down.
Mama wiggled through the pasture fence and into the field. I saw her mouth moving, appearently talking to a calf, but I couldn't make out what she was saying.
Suddenly, I saw the figure of a border collie, and it was barking, running toward mama. The figure was chasing mama.
Then I saw a human figure standing with a long stick.
Mama was about to jump the fence, but then I heard a BOOM, and a yelp coming from mama. Her shadow fell to where I couldn't see it.
"GEM!!!" daddy screamed.
The border collie figure sniffed the area where mama fell, and then, he threw back his head and howled a sorrowful howl.
The human figure walked up to the border collie figure, and bent down. He said something, and I managed to hear him. He said "Jethro, I've made the biggest mistake ever. I murdered the sweetest dog to appear on the face of the earth."
He picked up mama's figure, and carried her toward the barn.
Her head and legs were dangling down, and her legs swayed slightly every time the human took a step.
He came in the barn and lay mama down. In front of me.
I looked at her. Her eyes had panic in them, and blood stained the back of her neck and ran down the side and into the hay. I knew she was dead.
"Nero, I'm so sorry! If..if I knew it was her I wouldn't-," Jethro was cut off by me.
"You don't have to explain, I know you didn't mean it," I said to Jethro.
I buried my face into her fur. She wasn't warm now, she was cold. And her fur wasn't as welcoming. It was stiff.
Tears stung my eyes and streamed down my face.
"You promised you'd come back," I whispered.
I cried myself to sleep that night, and when I woke up, mama wasn't there anymore.
I spun my head around. Daddy was gone, too. I later relized he was outside with our humans, Jethro, and his human. They were all staring into a large hole and I heard them crying.
I rushed outside to see what they were staring at, and in the hole, mother was in it. I did my share of bawling, too.
Then, our man human picked up a shovel, stabbed it in the dirt, and buried her.
