ok,so i have probably watched Bambi II about ten times or more. But ive noticed some things in the movie that do not click with the first one, take into consideration that Bambi was still around his friends,in the first one it created the impression that Bambi had not seen his friends in a long while because friend owl says he was wondering what became of Bambi, and Bambi's mind had to be refreshed about who his friends were.I know many will disagree but if you ask me the real Bambi II if they would've made it correctly it would've been much more depressing and sad even though i liked the concept of Ronno alot they made him very well,i also liked the idea of mina[the female doe who adopted Bambi]and believe it or not before Bambi II came out i created a concept like that where anther doe adopted Bambi,so yes, that was a grand idea i also loved how Bambi didn't run away and he got the dogs attention,i thought for sure Mina would end up dieing,i also liked the concept of where Bambi jumps onto the ledge then suddenly it collapses and Bambi falls, that scene was so unexpected, but like i've been saying the real Bambi II[if it would've followed the story better]i think would've been depressing and different infact i started working on a Bambi II that would follow the originall story i may type it on my computr and send it in sometime, who knows...but anyways, thank you for reading this post.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I have read both books by Felix Salten: The first orginal "Bambi; A Life in teh Woods," and the second one, "Bambi's Children." From what I have seen/heard from reviews and comercials, it doesn't look ANYTHING like teh second book, which makes me think the director made the story up for money, not for making a real sequal. Maybe I'll see it and change my mind, but that is my opinion for now. Great post, thanks for the information!!!

Its not really a proper sequel, it's a midquel so it won't of followed Bambi 2 book. Although if they do come to making a proper sequel for it they'll have to call it Bambi 3 which would be a bit stupid, so hopefully they won't.
I think Bambi 2 was ok, although like you said it would of been better if some bits were changed. Rono was a good new character that fitted in well and the part where Bambi was adopted was also good. The bit I didn't like was when Bambi dremt of his mother and then went out of the forest to the human, how could a human make his voice so a deer could understand it? doesn't make sense that part.

There's a sequel to the original book? Wow, I didn't know that . . .
I hope and pray that there will be no Bambi 3.
Ronno is the buck that Bambi fought with in the original film. I guess since he didn't get a chance to talk or anything. I thought he was a good character (except he deserved a good punch in the gut, if you ask me. He was annoying and so self-centered.)
I thought the adoption thing was good too. I think I heard originally the Great Prince was looking for a new mate, not a doe to care for Bambi. I'm glad they changed this.
I was originally confused by the "hunter making a deer's voice" thing as well, but perhaps it was a "Deer Call" that they used? I mean, I don't know much about hunting but I know that there is a device that can make the sounds of a deer. It helps attract them and draws them closer to where the hunter is hiding, allowing them to go in for the kill.
Yeah, I think that's it.
IMO, Bambi 2 is a good "midquel" (I refuse to call it a sequel. Stoopid Disney.), yes. They just made the mistake of changing the title to make it seem like it was a sequel. The original title was so much better ("Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest", thanks to the SE release of Bambi).

The original movie itself doesn't even fully explain how much time had passed after Bambi's mother had died and when Bambi grew up into an adult in the next scene, so it does leave that question about Friend Owl saying about how he had been wondering what had become of Bambi. This timegap between the scenes/chapters can be found in Felix Salten's book "Bambi - A life in the woods", but Salten didn't mention a specific time. In the special-documentary "Inside Walt's story meetings" on the 2005 DVD-Edition of "Bambi," there was a mention of at least one year, but in Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas' (two of the leading animators of "Bambi") book "Walt Disney's Bambi - The Story and the Film," they mentioned three years: "Winter had come and gone three times and now once again the last patches of snow had melted reluctantly away." (Chapter "Spring", Page 61).

It was great! Only, it's not really a Bambi 2, more like a mid-qual thing.

It was a decent midquel.
