I think maybe it was called Balto before Balto was named.

I mean, I think Balto's owner named him balto after the city's nickname.

Maybe the musher was from Baltimore?

Balti is a type of Indian food

Balto was named after a Norwegian explore as was Togo. His owner was also Norwegian

Baltimore is often called 'Balto. MD'
