Hello everyone! :D I'm back with another fic that I hope you'll all enjoy! This one is slightly different, as it's the first fic not related to 'A New Threat'. Happy reading!

--------------------------------------------

Balto: Cruel Intentions

Summary: Aleu's clan is once more under threat, but this time from more than one enemy. It's the start of the wolf season, and Aleu's clan is threatened not just by hunters, but also the evil intentions of General Hawkeye, and the mysterious killer known only as...'The Carver'.

Note: Set after 'Balto: Frost'.

Rating: PG-13 for violent content and occasional swearing.

--------------------------------------------

Prologue:

"I'm going to die!"

Myrel felt his lungs burning as he continued running as fast as his legs could take him. Ragged breaths escaped his throat as he plowed on through the snow, all the time hearing the distant howls gaining on him from behind.

It was his fault they were chasing him. He'd been out scouting the territory when he had heard whispered conversation close by. Intrigued, he had decided to check it out, and had wandered right into the middle of a human camp. And now they were after him.

He yelped as a bullet whizzed past his head, and he forced a glance behind him. He caught a glimpse of several running figures gaining on him with every stride, and for a split second saw the light reflect of the steel barrel of a shotgun.

Another shot rang out, this time blowing up snow just inches away from his back leg. He felt sweat beading on his forehead, as his pursweurs continued to gain on him. He was getting tired, the pain in his legs and chest increasing with every stride.

"I'm almost there. I've gotta...keep...running" he panted. He forced himself to run faster, as his pursuers caught up with him.

Myrel felt a searing pain in his back leg as one of his pursuers latched onto it with his jaws. With a jerk, he lost his footing. Myrel rolled, bouncing off the ground and sprawling across the snow. With a crunch, he came to a halt.

Myrel started shaking as two dogs walked slowly up to him, their amber eyes glowing demonically at him. Both of them were black, and were wearing some kind of harness. Myrel tried to stand up in desperation, but his paws slipped against the snow and he fell down again.

He kicked out frantically as one of the dogs latched onto onto his leg, and tore into it. Myrel screamed as the dog began shaking his head, tearing further into his leg. With a snap, Myrel's leg broke in the dogs grip.

The other dog got a gip on Myrel's fur, and dragged him closer. Myrel closed his eyes as the dog tore at his throat, warm blood flowing down his chest.

The dog who had broken Myrel's leg perked his ears up "Franz, we gotta go"

The other dog, Franz, ignored his friend, instead continuing to slash at Myrel's twitching body.

"Sergeant!" the first dog snarled. Franz raised his head moodily, and grinned.

"Come on" the other dog barked, and ran into the nearby cover of foliage.

Franz smirked down at Myrel, who stared up at him through terrified eyes. Franz smirked.

"It's time to die wolfy" he started to laugh, as running footsteps began to approach. He continued laughing as he disappeared into the foliage.

Myrel turned his head as two men approached him. Myrel closed his eyes as a shotgun was lowered and aimed at his head.

--------------------------------------------

The two dogs grinned from within the foliage as a single shot echoed through the clearing. Franz turned to his fellow canine.

"The General will be satisfied, don't you think Deacon?" he asked.

Deacon shook his head "No. He won't be satisfied until every last stinking wolf has been eradicated from this area. And that is what is going to happen Sergeant, one way or another"

--------------------------------------------

Balto was lying on the floor of his boat, up until meeting Jenna his home. He was alone, Boris having gone off somewhere or other. That suited Balto. He needed time to think anyway.

He was worried. Worried about his friend Lance, and the way he had been acting recently. Ever since the incident with Frost, Lance's personality had changed completely. He was now a much colder dog, and the things he was saying had chilled Balto to the bone.

It had all come a head that very morning, when he had met Lance near Jenna's house. Lance had smirked at him, but it wasn't a friendly smirk.

"Wolf season's started Balto. I'd be careful if I was you" he had said with a sly smirk, much to Balto's shock and horror. Lance knew that Balto was half-wolf, and that his daughter Aleu was leader of the nearby wolf clan. So to say such a thing was...beyond cruel.

Balto wasn't angry though with Lance. If anything, he felt deep sympathy for him. After everything Lance had gone through, it was no wonder he was still angry. But what he had said had hit deep, and made Balto realise how much danger Alue was in.

It was the star tof the wolf season, and already Nome was crowded with dog teams and hunters, all of them anticipating the next couple of weeks.

"She shouldn't have come back. She'd be safe then" Balto thought. He hoped that Alue was safe, and that she'd be able to avoid the hunter's as best she could. But Balto couldn't shake off the nagging fear that gripped his heart for his daughter's safety.

He let out a sigh, and got to his feet. He hoped Jenna was home. God knows he needed someone to talk to. He jumped off the deck railing, and began walking towards town.

--------------------------------------------

At that moment, Kodi was just leaving the boiler room where the rest of his team mates were sat. Louis and Kirby stuck their heads out.

"Leaving so soon Kodi? That's not like you at all" Louis said with a smirk.

Kodi rolled his eyes at the black and white husky "Well in case it slipped your mind Louis, I've got pups to think of now. Dusty'll be waiting for me at home"

Kirby nodded "We understand Kodi. Don't we Louis?"

Louis shrugged "I suppose. Family first, right?"

Kodi nodded "Right. See you guy's later"

Kodi heard the door close behind him as he started walking down the street. Suddenly, he perked his ears up as he heard something.

"Kodi!"

Kodi jerked his head sideways, jsut in time as Toby barrelled up to him, his eyes wide in fright.

"Kodi, you gotta hide me. He's after me!" the yearling trembled, jerking his head side to side to look for his unseen pursuer.

Kodi smiled at his trembling younger brother "Hey, calm down Toby. You'll give yourself a heart attack"

Toby gulped "More than likely. You gotta help me Kodi, before he finds me!"

Kodi narrowed his eyes "Before who find you?"

Toby jerked his head up at a sudden clattering close by "Too late" he whimpered.

Kodi lifted his head as a grey shape appeared from out of the darkness and padded up to them. Toby pressed himself against Kodi's fur as the figure came closer.

"There you are!" the figure growled, and Kodi realised it was a dog. As he looked closer, he noticed that the dogs fur was the exact same shade of gray as Toby's, as well as the same amber eyes.

"Why'd you run, huh? Let me tell you something pup, you run from me again and I'll give you a reason to be scared!" the dog snarled.

Toby gulped and pressed himself further against Kodi.

The dog snorted "Oh, so now your pulling the terrified puppy routine, huh? I'll show you when I get you home"

Kodi frowned at the new arrival "Who are you anyway, and why are you talking to my brother like that?"

The dog raised his eyebrows in shock "Brother? What are you talking about? You know this little runt?"

Kodi nodded "Yes I do, very well in fact. So I'd appreciate it if you didn't call him runt while I'm here"

The gray dog scowled at Kodi "You don't have a clue who I am do you?"

Kodi shook his head "No, and I'm not sure I really want to"

"Ask him" the dog pointed at Toby. "Ask him who I am"

Kodi looked down at Toby, who was staring at the ground "Toby?"

Toby lifted his head and let out a sigh "He's...my dad. Seth"

Kodi stared from Toby to the other dog, and he could definitely see the resemblance. Toby had been adopted by Balto and Jenna several months ago, when he had been only six months old, and he had ever said anything about his real mother or father. And now he could see why.

"So, I guess you're the poor sod who's been stuck with this little runt all this time, huh? Don't worry, he 's coming with me. Now" Seth made a grab for Toby, but Kodi blocked it.

Seth leered at Kodi "Move it. He's my kid, and he's coming with me"

"Not while I'm here he isn't" Kodi scowled at Seth. "You abandoned him, left him to die for all you cared. He's part of our family now"

"What, a wolf family!?" Seth smirked. "A bunch of half breed freaks?"

Kodi growled, feeling his anger rising. He stepped in front of Toby protectively.

"He's staying here" he glared at Seth, who lowered his head in a fighting stance.

Both canines silently glared at each other, and Kodi knew one thing. Toby was depending on him, and he wasn't going to let him down.

Kodi lashed out as Seth launched himself at him, catching his opponent round the face and feeling his claws cut into his skin. Seth yelped, and swiped at Kodi's muzzle, missing by an inch. The two of them circled slowly, their eyes burning holes in each others head. Kodi was taken by surprise as Seth side swiped him, latching his leg round Kodi's and causing them both to trip. Kodi retaliated, dragging his claws along any part of Seth's body he could reach. He felt blood trickle down his face and felt a sharp pain as Seth snapped at his paw.

"Kodi! What the hell...!?" Kodi heard the familar voice, before Seth let out a yelp as something barrelled into him. Kodi looked up, to see Kirby and Louis wrestling Seth to the floor.

"Get the hell off me you lousy...!" Seth snarled as Louis held him down. Kirby glared down at him.

"I don't know who you are or what you want, but if we see you again you'll regret it! Understand?"

Seth growled at Kirby, before wrenching himself from underneath Louis. He glared at Kodi.

"I'll get you for this!" he snarled, before bolting off.

Louis turned to Kodi with a faint smile "So much for a quiet night in, aye Kodi?"

Kodi winced as he got to his feet "Thanks guys" he forced a smile at his two team mates.

"Any time Kodi. Just...make sure it's not too often" Kirby smirked. Kodi returned the gesture.

Kodi watched as his friends padded back into the boiler room, no doubt about to inform the others of what had just happened. He sighed deeply, and then turned to Toby. The yearling looked up at him with sad eyes.

"Your more trouble than your worth Toby" Kodi frowned at his brother.

Toby lowered his head "Sorry Kodi. I really am"

Kodi felt a smile come to his face, and he nuzzled Toby "Hey, it's okay Toby"

Toby looked up at Kodi "It is?"

Kodi nodded "Sure. Hey, I was ahrdly gonna let that maniac take you away was I?"

Toby smiled faintly "Thanks Kodi"

The yearling let out a yawn, and Kodi moved clsoer to him "Hey, you look tired"

Toby smirked "What was your first clue?"

Kodi laughed at his brother's comment "Come on, I'll take you home"

With Toby in front, the two canines started towards Jenna's house.

--------------------------------------------

"I'm gonna get that mutt if it's the last thing I do!"

Seth crept through the darkening street, the shadows keeping him hidden from any prying eyes. He had picked up Kodi and Toby's scent a while ago, and he was now determined to settle his score with the red and cream husky.

He was done trying to get Toby back. The little runt was going to pay for the embarrassment he had caused him. All he wanted now was to see the look in his sons eyes as he layed into Kodi. The thought made him smile. He'd get it, one way or another.

Seth lowered his body as he crawled under a fence. When he lifted his ehad back up, he spotted something that made him frown.

On a nearby rooftop, for a split second he could have sworn he'd seen a silhouette. As he continued to look, a single figure stood up on the roof, and raised his head to the sky.

"Ahhhwoooooooooooooo!"

Seth perked his ears up, trying to make out the howl. But he couldn't make it out. The accent was too heavy to translate.

Intrigued, Set quietly made his way towards the building the figure was stood on. Trying to stay as quiet as he could, Seth dug his paws deep and scaled up the wall, using the ledges and bricks to keep himself from falling.

Seth looked down at the ground below him. Should he fall now, he would break his neck. He shivered at the thought, as he climbed up to the top.

Once up, Seth looked round. Near the edge, a single figure stood with his back to him. Seth quietly padded closer, trying to make out more of the sole dog in front of him. From what he could tell, the dog was dark in colour, wearing a black fedora hat and a red flying scarf round his neck. He also appeared to be wearing some kind of harness.

Seth came to a halt as the figure perked his ears up.

"You've made a mess of things, my friend" the dog whispered, his voice coming out with a very heavy accent.

Seth frowned "Excuse me?"

He was taken completely by surprise as the figure launched himself at him, grabbing him round the neck and forcing him to the floor. Seth struggled as the figure dragged him towards the roof edge, forcing his head over the edge and hanging him over the drop.

"Mmm... how does it feel my friend? A second or two waiting to hit the ground... can feel like a lifetime. Awful feeling, being totally helpless... having no control... that's how most dogs spend their lives... slaves to the tyranny of the wolf. I'm rescuing them from all that... and you are destroying... my... work" the figure growled, his voice coming out as barely a whisper.

"Wha...what do you mean?" Seth choked, sweat beginning to form on his forehead.

"You've associated yourself with the wolf. And now I have to fix that" the dog growled. Seth couldn't make out his face, the brim of his hat covering his features.

"Who...who are you?" Seth whimpered. The figure leant down to his ear.

"They call me 'The Carver.' 'I am an artist"

Before Seth could react, the figure released his grip. Seth screamed as he fell over the edge, all the way down to the ground below...

--------------------------------------------

Star heard the scream, and the sickening crunch that followed it. As he ran towards the area the scream had come from, he came face to face with Seth. Or at least, what was left of him. He had all but exploded on impact with the ground.

Star looked up at the rooftop, and for a split second he could have sworn he saw the silhouette of a dog. But then it was gone.

Vanished into the night.

Very intense and suspenseful, like always, my friend!
Keep up the amazing work.
I'll try to keep up, but I go straight back to school tomorrow, and will likely be dead tired after that. (That's what you get for going out for a week: Lots of work to catch up on!)
Read your preview of Bad Wolf as well, and thought it was absolutely wicked! Worthy of the 'creepiest preview for a fic' award! :D

Balto: Cruel Intentions

Part 2

Aleu heard the shot a split second before it impacted the tree a mere inch from her head.

"Hunters! Pull back!" she yelled at the other wolves in her charge, and then took off running. Behind her, a pained yelp informed her that the hunters had hit their intended target.

All around, wolves were being picked off as bullets continued to fly through the clearing, impacting with whatever got in their way. Aleu kept running, her ears ringing from the sounds of gunfire, as another wolf near her was brought down, blood spraying onto her fur and staining the snow crimson. She felt tears cloud her vision as the entrance to the cave came into view ahead of her.

BANG!

A bullet blasted apart the snow in front of her, coming so close to hitting her she felt it singe her fur.

"***** it!" she thought, realising how close she had come to death.

"Aleu! Keep running!" a brown wolf yelled at her as he ran past. Aleu nodded, her breath coming out in sharp ragged gasps, and continued running.

In the foliage, one hunter lowered his rifle, and aimed it at his target.

"I got ya now, you son of a bitch!"

Aleu let out a scream as another shot rang out, impacting the wolf in front of her who had urged her to keep running. He collapsed to the ground, blood seeping from the bullet wound in his throat. Aleu knew he wouldn't be getting back up again.

"It isn't fair! Why is this happening to us?" Aleu heard herself thinking, as she dove into the safety of the cave. Hot tears streaked down her face as she thought about the wolves who she had seen fall, and their families.

She felt warmth against her, and she opened her eyes a little. Sirius looked at her with sad, worried eyes.

"Oh, Sirius" she choked, laying her head against his shoulder and letting the tears flow. Sirus said nothing, and allowed her to sob her grief.

--------------------------------------------

Outside, two figures watched on as the hunters gathered round the body of one of the fallen wolves.

"Not bad. Not as many as I was expecting, but not bad" one fo them muttered, his dark gray fur blending into the foliage cover.

The other dog scoffed "These humans are pathetic. They had a perfect shot at her and they missed!"

"Are you kidding Deacon?" the gray dog smirked. "It would spoil the fun if they'd killed her! Besides, the General want's to kill her himself, remember?"

Deacon nodded "I suppose. But I hate all this shadow lurking, Strike. I'm a soldier for God's sake, and the humans are gettign all the credit!"

"Relax Sergeant. You'll get your credit in time. Once the Major has finished in the town, we begin the operation" Strike smirked, his eyes twinkling demonically.

"And not a moment too soon" Deacon replied through gritted teeth, as the hunters dragged the wolf carcass away.

--------------------------------------------

Chester looked on grimly as Sirius padded into the chamber alone. Aleu wasn't with him.

"How is she Sirus?" he asked.

Sirius sighed "Not good. And I'm not surprised. This was the worst attack yet"

"How many fatalities?"

"Twelve" Sirius replied somberly.

"Twelve!?" Chester gawped.

Sirus nodded, his head hung "Plus many injuries, some of them severe. We'll just have to wait and see"

Chester sighed "So, what do we do now?"

"I don't think there's much we can do. If these keeps up, we won't be able to hunt. And it has been three days, and the supplies won't last long" Sirius shook his head.

"So we're basically under seige?" Chester asked.

"It might come to that. For now, all we can do is wait and see" Sirius replied.

Chester watched as Sirius walked out of the chamber.

"That's what I'm afraid of" he whispered.

--------------------------------------------

"Can't"

"Shouldn't"

"Wouldn't"

"Mustn't"

"But we do it anyway, don't we my dear?"

"Yes darling. We do"

The two canines got up from the floor. One of them was male, with black fur turning gray from old age, and wearing a black harness. The other was a female Irish Setter, her brown fur glistening against the white snow underfoot.

"That's capital then! Quite capital!" the male chuckled. The female smiled at him slyly.

"I love it when your in this mood Hawkeye. It makes me shiver with excitement!"

"Then I should be like this around you more Miranda, if that is the reaction it gets" he leant forwards and nuzzled her. She giggled.

"How long do we have to wait darling?" she asked in a simpering little voice. He smiled at her.

"Not long my dear. I'm waiting for the Major to get back to me, and then we can move things forwards"

Miranda pouted "But he's taking so long! Why do we have to wait for him?"

"Because he does a good job. And besides, we don't want to rush into things do we?" he lifted her head up with his paw.

"I suppose not darling. I suppose not" she smiled at him.

"That's capital then. Quite capital" Hawkeye kissed her on the lips.

Their lips parted as a figure appeared from the foliage.

"What is it? Can't you see we're busy?" Hawkeye growled at the new arrival.

"I am sorry sir, but I have some news for you which you may want to hear" the dog stood to attention. Like Hawkeye, he was wearing a black harness round his body, and a red collar round his neck with a silver tag.

"Ooh! Sounds exciting!" Miranda cooed.

"Shut up Miranda" Hawkeye scolded. Miranda lay down on the floor at his feet.

"Well? What is it you have to say Franz?" Hawkeye leered at Franz through narrowed eyes.

"We have received a message from the Major. He has informed us of events within the town of Nome concerning his agenda" Franz replied.

"And what is that?" Hawkeye asked.

Franz cleared his throat "It seems that there has been a murder sir, within the town"

"And why should that bother me?" Hawkeye asked through gritted teeth, his patience thinning.

"The victim was a wolf dog sir. The Major thinks it may be significant, judging by the witness to the crime"

"Well, one less hybrid in this world is fine news indeed. But why make such a fuss of it?" Hawkeye leaned closer, to Franz's obvious discomfort.

"He believes it was perpotrated by a wolf sir. Which means that there is a chance the hunting will be stepped up" Franz replied, a thin line of persperation beginning to form on his forehead.

Hawkeye smiled thinly "Is that all Franz?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

Franz nodded once "Yes sir"

"Then tell the Major this," Hawkeye moved upto Franz until their noses touched. "To not bother me with useless drivel and to hurry up with his agenda! Is that understood?" he growled.

Franz nodded "Y-yes sir. R-right away"

Hawkeye smirked "That's capital then. Quite capital. Now run along"

Franz bowed his head respectfully, and then darted back into the foliage.

"Oh Hawkeye!" Miranda brushed against his side. "When you get angry, it sends shivers down my spine!" she licked his cheek.

"I grow tired of waiting Miranda. I've waited so long for this moment" Hawkeye inhaled deeply.

"As have I, darling. It is our duty as 'pure' canines to remove the filth from this area" Miranda's eyes burnt fiercely.

"You are so right, Miranda. Purity is indeed important" Hawkeye chuckled.

He knelt down beside her.

"Do be careful my dear. I am quite fond of you, you know. I'd hate for you to go like my first mate"

"Yes," Miranda sighed. "Poor Pauline"

"Poor Pauline indeed" Hawkeye kissed her. "I love you Miranda"

"And I love you...General" Miranda smirked slyly.

--------------------------------------------

Back in Nome, a lone figure perked his ears up as a distant howl carried along the wind. He listened intently to the message.

"Very well then. Then I guess I'm going to need to raise the bar a bit. Cut deeper"

He climbed down from his vantage point, a smile tugging against his lips.

"For the glory of Operation Bad Wolf" he sniggered.

--------------------------------------------

Aleu looked up as Stacy stuck her head around the entrance to her chamber.

"Is it okay if I come in Aleu?" she asked.

Aleu nodded "Yes of course. Come in Stacy"

Stacy padded inside, and walked up to her "How are you feeling Aleu?" she asked.

Aleu sighed "I've sent an order down informing everyone to remain in the cave until further notice"

Stacy smiled "I understand. It's for the best, for now"

Aleu sighed again "The only thing is, I don't know how long 'for now' will be. I don't know when they'll give us a break, and the food supplies won't last for more than a few days"

Stacy nodded "We'll just have to wait and find out. That's all we can do"

"I just wish there was more we could do though. I feel so useless" Aleu lowered her head.

"Now don't say that Aleu" Stacy said sternly. "You're a great leader, and we all respect you for all you've done. We don't judge you for all this, as we know it's not your fault"

Aleu nodded, a faint smile coming to her "Thank you Stacy"

Stacy returned the smile "Hey, it's the truth"

Both of them looked up at the sound of a loud voice.

"I challenge you! Come on Whitey, get up and fight! Come on, just do something! ANYTHING!!!!"

Stacy sighed "Vance" she muttered.

"Well? What’s the matter, Whitey? Afraid of getting beaten by a RUNT?!?" the voice continued outside.

"So, you are the Alpha pup. Big, fat, hairy deal. Like I said before Vance, I don’t really care, so why do you keep asking me?" the other voice replied, clearly in exasperation.

"One can always hope" the other voice muttered with a growl.

Aleu couldn't help but smile as Stacy let out a sigh.

"Vance at it again?" she asked.

Stacy nodded "I don't know what's wrong with him. He's just been acting so...obsessive recently. Always trying to get Max and Trixxy into fights. I think he gets it from Chester"

Aleu chuckled "More than likely"

Stacy looked back at Aleu "You sure your okay Aleu?"

Aleu nodded "Yeah. Thanks Stacy"

Stacy smiled, then walkd out of the chamber.

Aleu sighed, placing her head on top of her paws, and looked up at the ceiling.

"What should I do Aniu? I feel so helpless"

With a final sigh, he closed her eyes and drifted into a restless sleep.

--------------------------------------------

Outside the cave, two silent figures looked on, their eyes twinkling in the gathering darkness.

"No sentries out. How odd"

"Maybe they're being cautious after today. Bringing in all the sentires as a precaution perhaps?"

"Maybe, Sergeant. In any case, I think things are progressing as we expected. It won't be long now before we can strike!"

"In the words of the General...capital! Quite capital!"

--------------------------------------------

Tell me what you all think! Part 3 coming soon! :D

Nicely done, once again! Less mysterious, though more informative.
Not all chapters have to involve murder and mayhem... Do they? :(

Balto: Cruel Intentions

Part 3

It was twelve o' clock in the afternoon, and Balto was walking the streets, Jenna at his side. The two of them were engrossed in their conversation of the events of last night.

"Do you think he'll come back?" Jenna asked him, referring to Seth.

"I don't know" Balto answered. "But if he does, we'll be ready"

Jenna sighed "I hope so. It scares me about what would have happened if Kodi hadn't been there"

Balto nuzzled her softly "Don't worry Jen. I'll make sure nothing happens to Toby. I promise"

Jenna smiled as they walked past the post masters. As they approached, Balto stiffened suddenly.

"What's wrong Balto?" Jenna asked, surprised at Balto's sudden change of stance.

Balto's expression darkened "It's another team" he replied, and Jenna stepped back slightly as she saw his mouth drawn up in a snarl.

Outside the post masters a large sled was parked, with a dog team next to it. The lead dog was a white and black German Shepherd, and at his side was someone she knew only too well.

"Lance" she murmured. Balto just nodded, his brow furrowed.

Lance was in deep conversation with the German Shepherd, shifting his eyes sideways as if looking out for someone. Jenna perked her ears up to listen in on the conversation.

"Just got in?" Lance asked. The leader nodded, a smug smile on his face.

"Yep, been really lookin' forward to it! Bout time something was done about this little...problem"

Lance smirked "I know what you mean. Quite a lot of dogs around here recently, I hope your team doesn't miss out on the fun"

Jenna felt Balto's muscles tighten, and a low growl emitted from his throat.

The German Shepherd laughed "I highly doubt that. My team have done this sort of thing before, but not on this kind of scale"

He leant further towards Lance "I have heard a rumour that there's a rather large wolf pack around here. Something like three hundred of them"

Lance nodded "No rumour. Fact"

The Shepherd's eyes widened "Well, it looks like we'll be busy then!" he chuckled.

Balto had had enough. He took several steps up to the group, his mouth pulled into a snarl and his ears flattened. Lance perked his ears up and turned round slowly.

"Ah. See you round buddy" he nodded at the German Shepherd, then slunk away from the sled. Balto remained where he was, his body shaking from the anger pent up inside him. The German Shepherd regarded him coolly.

"Hey. Is there a problem here?" he asked sourly regarding Balto with a look of contempt. Balto glared at him.

The Shepherd scoffed "Whatever. Be seeing you around lupus" he smiled smugly, before padding back to the rest of his team.

Balto inhaled deeply, allowing his anger to disappate slowly. Jenna moved up to him.

"Balto?" she rubbed against him to try to comfort him. Balto sighed.

"How could he? Why is he acting like this?" he asked in a low voice, his eyes remaning focussed on the dog team as they began to make their way towards the boiler room.

Jenna sighed "I don't know Balto. I know he's been through a lot but..." she shook her head sadly.

Balto nodded slowly "I need to talk to Chester about him. See if he can't straighten him out"

"Don't you think he might have enough to worry about already?" Jenna murmured. Balto sighed deeply.

"I just wish...that everything would just go back to the way it was. I love having Aleu back but...she was safer before she here. They all were"

Jenna nodded "I know. But it's her choice, and we have to accept that"

"Your right Jen. But still..." Balto shook his head.

Jenna nuzzled him softly "Come on. Let's go find Kodi and the others"

The couple resumed their pace, albeit slower than before. Behind them, Lance stuck his head out from within the alley he had been waiting. His face was contorted into an unreadable expression, his eyes trained on Balto's back.

"If I cant be happy, why should you Balto? Why should any of you?" he growled.

If he had turned round at that moment, he would have seen a dark shadow detach itself from the wall, and begin to form itself into the shape of a black wolf, it's eyes burning brightly with an intense fire. It was only there for a split second, before melting back into the shadows. Even so, Lance felt a shiver pass through his body.

Shaking his head, he padded back out into the street.

--------------------------------------------

Hawkeye walked through the undergrowth further into the cover of the foliage, a expression of immense boredom on his face.

"I hope this won't take long Strike" he sneered at the smaller gray dog in front of him.

"My humble regrets General, but he is proving most uncooperative" Strike replied, holding a low hanging branch out of the way, allowing Hawkeye to pass.

"So why burden me with it? Do what you wish to him. Torture him, beat him! Your a soldier for Christ's sake!" Hawkeye growled.

Strike bowed his head "We have tried sir, for the last few hours since we captured him. But he ain't budging"

"Your pathetic" Hawkeye muttered as he walked past his associate.

Franz and Deacon were waiting for the General's arrival in front of a small cave dug into the rock, and they bowed their heads as he approached.

"What's his name and function?" Hawkeye regarded the two dogs coolly.

Deacon shrugged "He won't budge. We've clawed him up pretty good, but he's still not talking"

"Can we torture him more sir?" Franz smirked darkly. "I mean, can we really hurt him?"

Hawkeye rolled his eyes "Very well. If at the end of two minutes he fails to cooperate, you may do as you wish with him"

Franz smirked "Thank you sir"

Hawkeye looked up as Miranda barged past Strike and moved up to him eagerly.

"Can I watch the interrogation Hawkeye? Oh may I, may I, may I?" she looked up at him with dough eyes.

Hawkeye smiled "You should be resting Miranda, and you'll only get yourself worked up and then you'll be cranky later"

"Oh please darling?" Miranda rubbed against him. "I shan't ask for anything else"

Hawkeye licked her once on the nose "Oh very well. It can be my gift to you"

"Oh, thank you darling!" Miranda gushed.

Hawkeye padded into the cave, Miranda close to hsi side. Deacon turned to Strike.

"Sometimes, I think she is crazier than he is!" he exclaimed. Strike nodded dumbly.

Hawkeye walked up to the prisoner, a light brown wolf who's fur was now stained from the many claw marks on his body.

"Ooh! I like his coat!" Miranda gushed, noting the wolf's handsome features.

Hawkeye ignored her and focussed on the prisoner "Do you know who I am?"

The wolf glared at him from the floor "No" he growled, his features twisted in obvious agony.

Hawkeye smirked smugly "No matter. By the time this little operation is finished, every wolf and half breed will know my name. I am General Hawkeye, defender of the pure line of dogs"

The wolf scoffed "Is that supposed to mean something to me?"

Hawkeye stiffened, his brow furrowing slightly "Do you realise that as 'alpha', if that is the term used by you and your associates, of this team I can have you killed at my leasure should you continue to refuse to answer my questions?"

"You'll get nothing from me!" the wolf snarled, and then spat at Hawkeye. It landed on his paw.

Miranda glared at the wolf with fire raging in her eyes "How dare you!" she growled, striking out and belting the wolf savagely around the face, leaving four fresh claw marks on his cheek.

Hawkeye appeared to have frozen, staring at his paw as the saliva slowly dribbled down it "Oh my God!" he exclaimed.

Miranda ran up to him and began to wipe the paw clean "Here my darling, let me get rid of it"

Hawkeye grimaced "He...touched...me!" he growled through gritted teeth.

Miranda finished tending to his paw and nuzzled him "Feel better darling?" she soothed, nuzzling his cheek.

Hawkeye nodded "Better, yes. Thank you Miranda"

The General looked straight at the brown wolf on the floor with a look of revulsion. Without another word he sauntered out of the cave, Miranda at his side.

"Strike, Deacon, Franz!" he called to his three asociates, who stood to attention.

"Yes sir?" Strike spoke up.

"Kill him" Hawkeye gestured to the cave. The three canines nodded in compliance and moved towards the cave.

"And also," Hawkeye smirked darkly "Cut out his tongue"

The three dogs padded inside the cave.

"What was his name darling?" Miranda asked.

"Do you know, I never even asked" Hawkeye smirked.

"Well then, it musn't have been important!" the female Irish Setter brushed her tail under his chin.

The two of them began to walk away as the agonised screams of the prisoner echoed from the cave.

--------------------------------------------

In the boiler room, tempers were flaring.

The new dog team had made their way inside, and already the leader, Vasil, was bragging.

"I've been doing this sort of stuff now for over a year. I must have killed nearly ten wolves now, with my own bear claws!" he chuckled.

In the corner, Kirby glared at the smug German Shepherd "If he keeps this up I'm gonna do something he'll regret"

"Same here" Ralph and Louis growled in unison.

There were eight dogs including Vasil who were seated near the boiler. A dark tan German Shepherd, a black Samoyed, a white Siberian Husky, a gray Chow-Chow, a brown St Bernard and three red huskies who appeared to be brothers. All of them appeared to be in prime health, and they were all focussing on Vasil.

"Tex" Vasil looked at the tan German Shepherd. "What's the matter, you look down" he smirked.

Tex scowled "You know why I 'look down'. No offense Vasil, but your knocking me sick wth all this talk"

Kirby and his friends perked up at this.

"Looks like there's a gap within the ranks" Louis muttered.

Vasil glared at Tex, and to the tan German Shepherd's horror and surprise, Vasil shoved his handsome but savage face into his nose "I’m the leader of this team, and if you don't like it you can go off somewhere else! You snivelling excuse for a dog!" he snarled.

Tex regained his compossure swiftly, and pushed Vasil away from him "Your sick Vasil, and so are the rest of you who think what he's saying is funny! It's disgusting! Wolve's have never hurt us before, so why should we hunt and kill them for fun?"

"Because it is fun" Vasil smirked, to the amusment of the others.

Tex glared at him "Well not for me!" he growled, then span round and barged through the door, taking Lance by surprise as he stepped inside.

"What's his problem?" he growled, before padding up to Vasil and his team. Kirby glared at him.

"What's he doing here?" he muttered.

"It's lucky Kodi isn't here, or he'd be in for what he deserves!" Ralph said in a low voice. Louis just nodded.

They turned away as Lance and Vasil broke into fits of laughter, thankful that their friend wasn't around to here the comments against his wolf heritage.

--------------------------------------------

Tex had been sculking round the alleys ever since he'd left the boiler room some time ago, and he had no intention of going back. He was sick of Vasil's boasting, and how the others fawned over him and every word that escaped his lips. In truth, Tex was tired of it all. He hadn't wanted to come to Nome in the first place, but his master had dragged him along for the ride as usual. He hated the fact that everyone had turned against him and sided with Vasil, and it further intensified his hatred and disgust of the white and black German Shepherd.

He had been looking for something to eat with limited success. Soon, he thought, he was doing to need to find some shelter other than the boiler room.

"I'll be ***** if I go back there! I'm through with it! Finished!" he thought. And he meant it.

The wind was starting to pick up as Tex padded down a narrow street, and he shivered as it penetrated through his fur.

He didn't here the sounds of rapidly approaching footsteps, as the wind whistled through his ears.

He didn't here anything until it was too late.

He turned round, as a paw impacted with his face. Tex staggered back and fell on his side. He recovered quickly, but another blow to his temple brought him crashing to the ground once again. He felt strong paws grab him round the neck, and through his spinning vision and pounding head he felt himself being dragged across the ground.

"Let me go!!" he screamed as his attacker dragged him into a nearby barn, and flung him through the open door. Tex impacted with the floor and rolled before sprawling to a halt. He looked up as his attacker loomed closer.

A black dog wearing a black fedora hat and a red flying scarf round his neck leant down over Tex, the brow of his hat masking his features.

"Who the hell are you!?" Tex growled.

"I've been called Pervert, Sicko, Madman, Maniac, Monster. But I am just a simple person trying to lead my brothers and sisters into the light, to liberate them from the cage of the wolf" the figure replied in a voice which was barely a whisper.

Tex yelped as the black dog grabbed him round the shoulders, and dug his claws into his skin.

"My only fault is that, no matter how hard I try, I just can't stop giving" the dog said, and Tex could tell from what little he could make out of the dogs features, that he was grinning.

"Why are you doing this?" Tex gasped as the dog dug deeper into his shoulders.

"You've defended the wolf, my friend. You are a traitor to your kind. And now I have to fix that" the dog growled.

Tex started shaking as the dog grabbed his head and lifted it up.

"No!" Tex pleaded. The dog slammed his head down onto the floor. Tex gasped from the pain, as the dog began to put weight onto the paw still over Tex's head. Tex started screaming as a sickening squelching sound echoed through his ears.

The dog turned his head away as Tex's head collapsed under his paw. He lifted his paw up and shook it, shaking off the blood dripping from it.

If anyone had witnessed the horrific scene, they would have seen a single figure slink out of the barn and disappear into the shadows.

Vanishing, into the darkness.

--------------------------------------------

"You must get some rest Miranda. It's a long day ahead" Hawkeye smiled at the female Setter.

"Mmm, yes, a long, glorious day! A long, glorious, exciting, marvellous day!" Miranda beamed.

Hawkeye chuckled "Goodnight Miranda" he kissed her once on the lips, and then padded out into the darkening foliage. He felt warm inside, like an intense fire was burning within. He smirked viciously.

"Capital! Quite, quite capital!" he sniggered.

He padded out of the foliage and approached the cave where Strike was stood on guard.

"Strike?"

Strike bowed his head "Yes General?"

"Get The Major on the line. We begin the attack tomorrow" Hawkeye smirked, and his eyes flashed demonically.

Ooh! The suspense builds! I must ask, however... Will there be no end to this killing?
Keep up the good work, my friend!
