His owner probably lived in Nome. His owner could have even been the postman/musher's son and he decided to put him on the sled team.

Yeah, I'm with Greykitty. Kodi was probably bought by someone but just put on the sled team because he was... fast? or the owner probably needed to make some money and sold Kodi to the postman?

yeah that was a little weird but maybe it was because to make the movie they had to focus more on kodi than any other pup or his master.
