Grizzly bears are sometimes called Kodiaks,but maybe Kodi's name did come from the Island.

You know, we could have it wrong. Maybe it was "Kodiac" instead of "Kodiak"

The Aleutian Islands are a part of the southern "tail" of Alaska. See the circled islands on the map.

This seems to be a common trend now that I think about it. Although it did surprise me to first read about the origins of Aleu and Kodi's names. Disney did the same thing for TLK characters as well.
