Well I was one who hunts some technology in Balto 1 movie Yes I like the plane in it and started to find out WAS that plane a real new model or only Fictio but these are the results!

This plane here: http://baltosource.timduru.org/img/gallerie1/132.jpg

is in Balto one

Yes The model is Airco D.H.4 One seated plane from World War One

http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive/b/i ... rcoDH4.jpg

Here is Perfect pic from it

I'm sure that this was good search I supouse (History freak I am)

I can see. Good find, but the Balto plane has a slightly different line management, expecially on the front engine cover. But maybe that's animation based. So maybe they could have used that plane as a model, or just accidentally made it so similar.

You can be right or wrong Togo.

Those two planes look too much same so I think its not just conicident

But for the part your right like Catadventure said

-The engine plates
-Some of the wing plates arent same
-Plane used in Balto is covered with Metal
-It got more rotors and engine power I think

But the metal plate thing might be false or true...

In WW1 war planes where wood and cloth some metal...but in this one full wood and some metal cover.

Also Plane used in Balto was younger than the DH used in WW1 also cause be that but the builder and model might be just the same one (Also I didn't find any USA Fighters same look than DH4 if I remember right but it also might be that USA did buy some of British Airforces)

(Sorry for Double post!)

Another interesting picture found

http://baltosource.timduru.org/img/gallerie3/144.jpg

Check that and see the Engine sides and then the Real DH4's THERE is a lot of same!

And the part on the top of the engine plate is now discovered!

In the real DH4 is Machineguns! but in the Anime on is no so thats why the plates are different ones I just realised that! But also it might be wrong realise Im not so sure...In the Anime version there is not so much of holes than in the real one...

Just out of interest, I am reading a book at the moment about the serum run and it talks about the planes used. The pilot who was going to deliver the serum (I would assume the guy in the movie too) was called 'Roy Darling' and was a member of the air force who was presently on leave due to injuries and was due to retier soon.

There were 3 planes that could have been used but only one looked like it may even make the journey, all were owned by the 'Farthest North Airplane' company and it was out of flying season so the planes were not quite air worthy yet.

The plane that was meant to make the trip was a Standard J-1 biplane previously used to train Army Pilots, its' name was the 'Anchorage' and was surplus after WW1.

Not really related to the cartoon but still quite interesting

Ahh another interested from History  (Misses them a lot) well I'm quiet sure that it belongs a bit into this one but for the plane model what you think is it the right one or is there STILL one model what looks even more...?

Very interesting, and isn't it nearly impossible to fly a J-1 in a blizzard anyway?

That's probably why they never flew.

Lol, good point. It's a shame they didn't have newer planes back them (like a B-26B, even though it's a bomber it can stand up to weather). Of course, if they did, we wouldn't be here, lol :)

Ac your right...

http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/ai ... rd_j-1.jpg

This plane looks a lot same than D.H.4 so I give up from the theory that it was DH4 Now I believe that its this J-1 airplane used in WW1 and if in history in Alaska were some so Its J-1 Theory complite finally searching is over

well it came by accident...When I was trying to find airplane models to Road To Victory Fanfic I accidently found out D.H.4 when I was trying to find same model and good looking planes (Cuz I'm idiot and like good looking planes)

I found out D.H.4 and then checked out the plane in Balto and "OMG those planes are like same!" well I started to use British DH4 in RTV and some others like Handley Heavy Bomber (From WW1) and some others

Gotcha bomber wasn't found easily but found it still...never used it thought (it was ugly XD)

Well I'm not so good because its REALLY hard to find good WW1 plane pages (Found one but forget it at once after use) I think I saw J-1 at once part but then I'm not so sure was it J-1 because DH4 and J-1 looks same

http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive/b/i ... rcoDH4.jpg

http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/ai ... rd_j-1.jpg

You cant say that they doesn't got any difference! but I'm glad that I finally found out the real model...wish that I can find more of WW1 planes

JUST NOTICED THIS!:
the Plane in Balto got both DH4's construction and also parts from J-1 The model isn't PURE J-1 when you look it carefully Also there is chance that This J-1's picture is more future and not the same kind like in 1920 century.

-Well anyway the tail part isn't from DH4 or from J-1
-Engine deck is from DH4 J-1 got smaller like is in view
-The plane is one seated but DH4 is only two seated but might found out that J-1 is one seated also
-There is a lot of difference on those planes so I bet this Balto plane is both DH4 and J-1 mix. Because of the construction difference or then it is just Universal Studious own plane model what is fictio Possibilitys is a lot...

(This is good theory but if it is true also...because the plane doesn't look like J-1 or DH4...)
