Considering how popular this show has been ever since it started airing, I'm surprised there hasn't been any talk of it.
The Loud House is a cartoon series that has been airing on Nickelodeon since May of 2016. Its about an 11-year old boy named Lincoln Loud and his life in a family of 11 kids! To make things even more crazy, he's the only boy! Most of the episodes that have aired so far revolve around family life in "The Loud House" although a good portion of them also delve into the personalities of each of the characters and their lives outside their house.
Here are a few previews of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6MpT7lLwlshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vjSfn8GtPQThe show was created by American animator Chris Savino, who has worked on a ton of popular cartoons in various roles; The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold!, Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends just to name a few. Savino says that he drew inspiration for the show from his own experiences in a big family. The animation of the show is in the classic 2D, hand drawn style and largely pays homage to comic book cartoons and TV cartoons from the 1990s.
I'm just going to be blunt and say that this is the best show that is airing in Nickelodeon right now. There are several reasons why I love this show.
1) The animation - It's smooth, it's sharp, and it just looks great!
2) The characters - All 11 siblings have their own unique quirks and interests that make them stand out. Kevin Johnson of
The A.V. Club explains it perfectly; "the female characters are defined by their traits, but never judged for them." There's bound to be a character that anyone can relate to.
3) The characters attitudes toward each other - You would think that a show like this would be all about the siblings annoying the heck out of each other and causing complete mayhem. But that's only partially true. The attitude is largely "It's loud, it's crazy, and you can never have any privacy. But that's how we like it."
4) The Music - I mean...just listen to the intro and closing songs! How can you not "bump" to the beat? Plus the soundtrack they use for the episodes is really catchy.
And I'm certainly not alone when it comes to loving this show because it's been getting high rating and universal acclaim ever since it first started airing. In fact, in the first month it was on air it actually beat out Spongebob in ratings! The show is currently in its second season, and a third season has already been confirmed and even a movie has been scheduled for a release in 2020! It was also nominated for "Favorite Cartoon" at the 2017 Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards (it lost to Spongebob unfortunately) and Grant Palmer, Lincoln's original voice actor, won an award for Best Performance in a Voice-Over Role for a teen actor during the 2017 Young Artist Award.
I largely stopped watching Nickelodeon years ago due to the downward trend in quality that I felt the network had taken. Al the shows I had watched before had either stopped airing or weren't as good as they used to be and all the new shows they were releasing just looked downright ridiculous. But The Loud House has clearly proven its worth as a quality TV cartoon and hopefully Nickelodeon, or maybe even Cartoon Network, will take a lesson or two from it.
What do you guys think about The Loud House?
