The PSP uses Wi-Fi now, correct?

Since it is wireless, most PSPs will detect "hotspots", or wireless access points. Now, you must connect to the IP and DNS before you can start viewing the Internet on one. Unfortunately, unless you have a wireless Internet of your own or have a friendly neighbor that has a wireless internet router without WEP or WPA encryption, then you could jump right onto the Internet.

However, most routers of today encrypt their wireless access points, requiring you to have a network key. This is either a a 12 or 26 digit key that is needed to gain acess to the IP (all thanks to the 128-bit or 64-bit security encrytions).

So if you have an unprotected wireless internet somewhere within 300ft of your PSP or you are subscribed to a hotspot, then you can connect. Otherwise you are out of luck.

To be clear : that's something that not even 10% of people can do. I believe it will be easier in a few years, but for now...
I would be curious to know how Balto Source looks like on a PSP ?

That sounds interesting. I may eventually buy one, but I'm waiting for the prices to go down or something new or better to come out, which may take a year, lol. BUt I can wait. I'm happy with what I have right now.

I'm surprised. I thought most people today were considered to have the knowledge of setting up a network. Anyways, I use my Blackberrys Browser sometimes when I check out the site. Although posting is a little difficult- because the buttons on it are incredibly small- it is still cool to know that I take the Internet whever I go.

Heh, heh, I go here all the time on my PSP, but I never post anything because it's takes so freaking long to type out stuff with that dinky control pad!! Can't say it looks any differentm unless you configure your personal settings.

Okay, to get on the internet via PSP, you basically need a wireless router of some sort. If you don't have one or don't plan on purchasing one, you can go to some of those coffee shops or something and see if you can nick off a signal.

Go to your internet browser (PSP Firmwares 2.5 on up are the only ones that enable an internet browser). I resume you didn't set up your network connection. Do the following:

1.) Open Internet Browser
2.) Press "HOME", and if you didn't set up your connection, it will prompt you to set one up now.
3.) Enter your connection name
4.) Less tha 2% of the people that actually HAVE wireless routers know the name, so just press "SCAN" <- It's best if you hold your PSP up in the air for a few seconds just to improve your chances of getting a signal.
5.) If your PSP didn't detect a signal, move to another spot and repeat step 4
6.) If it did, the signal strength is recommended to be at least 18% or higher. Otherwise, you may get cut-off.
7.) You will be taken to your default page. It may take a while to load.

ONCE YOU GET YOUR PSP INTERNET UP AND RUNNING, GO HERE:
http://www.psp.us.playstation.com

-OR-

http://www.ps-portable.net

These websites are configured to be viewed specifically for your PSP. Ciao!!

The wireless receiver inside the PSP is so small that it hardly has a chance of detecting anything over 300ft away. And true the fact that literally no one has a wireless router (I have one, but it is built for OC lines like I run- so basically no one could could connect off of me).

As for better or worse, it only receives up to 54mbps and uploads??......probably liitle to slim. (if that)

Simple way:
--buy a wireless router
--find a neighbor that has one
--subsribe to local hotspot
--sit in the local cafe or coffee shop (usually they have unencrypted wi-fi)

it pretty much works the same way when you try and play online as well.

BTW; I have Balto 1 and Balto 3 for PSP. PM me if you want the files.

True. Some McDonalds are beginning to offer Wi-Fi Internet in their restaurants... ??? (cheap way to make a little more $$$?). Sometimes while I am traveling, I park in a McDonalds parking lot and browse the 'net while eating some Fries. I stay there for 20 minutes or until the employees discover me and boot me out of the lot. :o
