Hi guys! Tim here, how are you doing? I stumbled across this website whilst trying to look up an animation from my childhood and was wondering if I could pick your brains to see if any of you guys remember it.
It is an animated short about a soldier going through either PTSD or issues with drugs. There are several scenes in which he is with friends enjoying himself, when his friends turn into demons, in one scene dogems (or bumper cars) were definitely involved. After a few of these scenes it turns out the soldier is in a hospital bed in a psychiatric ward. A young doctor/nurse tends to him. The scene cuts to outside the wards double doors when they suddenly burst outwards. The nurse comes flying out and lands on his back and is attacked by one of the demons we had seen previously. The soldier, smiling in a blank way, steps over the body of the nurse towards the camera and the animation ends.
The style as far as I can remember is coloured pencil (though this could be inaccurate). I believe I watched it on Channel 4 (England) which at the time was known for showing animation like "the black dog" and "the cat came back". I think the time it was shown would have been late 80's/early 90's.
After the animation finished I believe it went to some live action footage of soldiers on drugs, with written facts on screen, but that may have been something else entirely. All I can say is it isn't Jacobs Ladder, nor is it "a waltz with bashir"
Thank you for your time
Tim
