Some people were shocked that Karnage would do such a thing or that show would allow that to happened. I was surprised and bit shocked at first though they were pirates and they did that to their crew member often even cabin boys and sometimes regular sailors eat cabin boys. The pirates would maroon theives which doesn't make sense. Karnage is mentally crazy so he doesn't know have the time what he is doing and thinks being bad is good like rappers and drug meth chemistry teachers. People believe that someone who is horrible if they harm or kill a child and if they don't, they are good because they say they have some morals. Karnage is like a child in a way himself.

Actually; I don't think Don Karnage wanted to throw Kit overboard at first because he let Kit down on his feet on the Iron Vulture to examine the broken pieces of his airfoil. If he wanted to throw him off; he would have Dumptruck keep him in the holding position. I believe when he said he was going to erase him from his list; he was going to have the pirates tie up Kit and have them kill him using the Lightning Gun because Don seemed to be going towards it. Kit then threw the pieces of his board and they klonked Don in the head; so Don got ticked off and basically decided "Screw the Lightning Gun; I'll just throw him overboard!" Dumptruck grabs Kit and drops him.

And by the way; these pirates have no reservations in killing kids with guns. Remember Dumptruck was shooting Kit with machine guns at point blank range; including a bullet that almost hit him in the head? That bullet shot was too close even for Disney and they edited it off when the episode was split into four parts in syndication. It's not in the DVD release of course. Kit might as well have been a middle aged adult; to the pirates he was fair game. Also remember that Jymn Magon was the censor; not the networks nor television stations, and he was no fuddy duddy in that department. Amazingly enough; the comics got away with a lot more than the television series.
