I do agree that Boris was only at his best in the original Balto. He was O.K. in WQ, and was horrible in WoC

Hmm, I never thought about that.
I agree, Boris kinda is a slob. In all three films, he was nothing more than Balto's "guardian" or "father-figure", if that really fits.
In the first movie: He and Balto were typical bachelors. That is, until Jenna enters the picture. Then Balto saves the town, blah, blah, blah, he's a hero . . . annnnnd you know the rest.
Wolf Quest . . . well, Boris now has six new pups to help raise (because we all know Jenna needs a break some time!), and he not only is a bachelor, but also the "babysitter" of the wolf-like Aleu. He seems more knowledgeble of the situation (you know, telling Jenna and the bears not to go after Balto and Aleu; he knows something, maybe?).
And at last, WoC . . . finally our big-old single goosey gets a girl! Lucky. Although his choice of females isn't the best (he probably hadn't seen female geese for the longest, hence his surprise), he finally gets a chance at love. Isn't that what everyone wants . . . eventually?
*whew!*
I don't think Boris was that bad of a character in WoC. Maybe the writers thought that after his minor role in Wolf Quest, he needed a chance in the spotlight again (since he was more of a major character in Balto than a minor character; also there is that whole thing with different writers to think about, because the writers of the original film wrote WoC, but not WQ). Just think about it: If Boris wasn't in love and faking his injury with Stella, the film's ending wouldn't have been so special (you know, Boris making up with Stella and all)!
That's just my thoughts to it.
