Upon searching about the Internet, I stumbled upon a website called Pencil Pictures. This is a website that is dedicated to the work of Robert Stevenhagen, a character animator and director of many films, such as Frankenweenie, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Wererabbit, The Tale of Despereaux, and many others.

However, he has also worked as the supervising animator for Jenna in the 1st Balto movie, and this website features 2 animation drawings sheets of Jenna, ones that I don't think anyone has actually seen, and I'd like to bring it to light.

Also, if there is more of Jenna's production art somewhere, then hopefully more like this can be found for all Balto fans.

The website: http://www.pencil-pictures.com/Rob_Stev ... tures.html

You can find the pictures here: http://www.pencil-pictures.com/Rob_Stev ... Balto.html

I could just look at art from the Balto movies all day. It doesn't seem like you get much decent animation anymore.

I'm not sure what animation quality has to do with this post, though I don't think modern 3D animation is that bad. The only bad 3D animation I've seen is low budget. Otherwise the quality of 3D animation is really quite good. Take this screenshot from the Minions movie for example:

This DVD capture looks like it could be a actual photo of London, but it isn't.

I was thinking mainly of 2-D animation. For starters, just look at the downgrade that tends to occur going from original to sequel (see Secret of NIMH, or from one incarnation of a franchise to the next (see Batman: The Animated Series versus Batman: The Brave and the Bold).

Going further, it seems like original series are losing something too, a la Uncle Grandpa, which thank goodness is finally being cancelled.

Against a backdrop of general decline in animation overall, I think movies like Balto, and art from their production, are something of a time capsule from better days.
