Your Opinions on this?

Here's the recent remade Disney films that I know of:
- The Parent Trap
- Freaky Friday (actually had two remakes: one for TV and the feature film with Lindsey Lohan)
- Flubber (a remake of The Absent-Minded Professor)
- The Incredible Journey (remade into the Homeward Bound films)
- The Love Bug (remade into a TV film)
- That Darn Cat!
- Escape from Witch Mountain

- The Shaggy Dog (the most recent remake; will be released later this spring starring Tim Allen)

So . . . what do you think? Is this a sign that Disney's live action department has lost all of its originality or what?

No; they're just going with the flow. How many orginal fils do they come out with right now? The latest movies were both remakes, or movies based on a novel. Like Narnia and King Kong.

Maybe they're just trying to modernize them, I guess?

Because most of the remakes are clearly more geared to today's families (even though I still love many of the original versions, like the Parent Trap and Freaky Friday) and are trying to use the basic plot of the original, but adding a bit more of that good-olde modern Disney charm.

Heck, I actually like most of the remakes (mainly the Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, both with Lindsey Lohan . . . odd, yes?), but don't you think the whole movie biz will eventually be known as "Remake City", thanks to the many films that are just remakes of older movies?

Or maybe companies are just making remakes to hopefully get consumers to not only watch their version, but also the original version as well? Extra money, it is. *ka-ching!*

Remakes = cash cow?

Yes. (oh goodness, I do believe I've just ranted.)

If a company wants to do a remake on a movie, it's fine with me but I feel there's a few movies that's should be just left alone. If the original is fine, there's no point in remaking it and run the risk of making a bomb.

Well they are becoming sort of re-doing. With making them modern many people don't know that there have been older ones, and watch them. Could be that Disney has been loosing it... But then again this did bring them money. But there are too many remakes... Lets take King Kong for example or Oliver Twist... Although new technologies had been made, they SUCKED totally if compared to the older versions. So animated or not, many studios have been doing this... In many cases they are spilling "paint" on the originals.

I don't think you can say they sucked entirerly, there is always someone who likes it.

And whats wrong with modernizing them? I thought some of the remakes mentioned were really good. And like Juuchan17 said, they were geared more towards people today, some people just find modern movies more interesting.

Don't you ever have an old idea that was good then, but once you've gotten better at it, (art for example) You went back and suddenly you want to remake the idea to fit your current style. This is basically what they are doing, and there is no basis to be mad at anyone, anything, or any companies for doing that.
