Why does Baloo act like that's the first time he met Shere Khan?
I don't remember Baloo acting like he doesn't know him. I think he was surprised to knew that he had saved him.
I like this episode, but at the same time while I'm watching it I can't help to hate Baloo for leaving Rebecca on her own and even when he knows that she's having trouble he doesn't help her. But at least it made Baloo learned that his friends would do everything for him, and that would explain why he starts to get along better with Rebecca in further episodes and why he stops saying that he wants to go away from the business.
And now that I think about it, I may got that mad because it made remind the times I've been such a selfish person with my friends.
I think they were just playing safe since the episodes often aired out of order they were produced. After all the episode Baloo first meets Colonel Spigot is the one time he even remembers his name.
I remember that being a huge off put of this episode too, it did however give a lot of sympathetic development to Rebecca as a result. Definitely her shining moment in the series.
Money just seemed to bring out his selfish side throughout the show (eg. "Balooest Of The Blue Bloods", even if Rebecca's stroppiness was provoking it more that time).
I noticed that bit of continuity too (he does occasionally mention getting the plane back, but with far less vehemence). His greedy side also seemed to get downplayed ("Paradise Lost", where he makes a clear mark at what he won't do for an extra buck) and his own similar moments of sacrifice and patience for Rebecca were shown, if to a lesser degree (eg. "My Fair Baloo", "Gruel And Unusual Punishment"). It might just be convenient episode order but it does actually seem like there was actual character development between Baloo and Rebecca as the series continued.
