I posted this topic before, but it got deleted for some reason and I got permission to re-post so here it is: What animated movies or series do you hate that everyone else seems to love?

(Now to the best of my ability I shall try to remember what I posted originally)

Movies

Brave: Not in the sense that I really hate it, but I don't see what's so great about it. I already posted my review in the actual movie topic so I won't repeat everything, but to sum up my thoughts of it: I didn't like the main character, and the story was kind of everything I'd expect from a standard Disney princess movie. It's just been done so many times in my opinion. I did like the setting and graphics though. I keep referring back to the term Standard Disney Fare.

Rio: To me, it seemed like Alpha and Omega, but with birds, and more colorful. The characters (and some of the songs) annoyed me as well. I did like the setting, but if I wanted to see a movie set in Brazil I would turn to Fast Five.

Series:

Avatar: The Legend of Korra: I won't start off with a rant about how inferior this is to the original- no actually it's so bad in my opinion it doesn't deserve to be compared. My main problem was Korra (and no I'm not being sexist because I can honestly say I liked the idea of a female avatar). But Korra is just god-like and I have too many problems with her character (learning all 3 elements in the beginning? Aang had to work for his *cough cough* like all the other avatars before). Also mega plot holes like taking away people's bending?! Come on, that was supposed to be something only the avatar can do (and a fully realized one as stated in the series extras). I also add that if Amon was using bloodbending to restrict the part of people's brains that were using bending then:

1: They would have to be super far advanced in what 70 years? To know all about brains and how they work (which I guess I can give them that).

2: But then also Katara should have been able to release it since she's a blood bender and the best healer. Lolnope I guess it's up to Korra to save the day..again.

They simply never explained this clearly and that was one of my biggest problems.

It's just pretty sad when my favorite character is one that doesn't do anything but sit and look cute. Not that I dislike Pabu, but still.

Anyway the flaws are too big for me to enjoy the series for what I hoped it would be.

Spongebob: Whatever it is that makes people like a sponge running around the ocean floor without clothes on I have no idea. But this is really just not something I've ever liked. I admit I used to watch a few episodes here and there as a kid, but now that I'm older I'm like really? Did have a catchy song though.

Fairly Oddparents: Again one of those weird Nickelodeon cartoons with weird humor I didn't enjoy.

Actually I'm just going to say almost every old Nick cartoon I didn't like that much to save some time here, but those two I had the most problems with. I did like Jimmy Neutron though, that was good.

Anyway, that's about all I can remember for now. I'll add more when I get the time.

I thought Brave was a pretty good film myself. But hey, your opinion.

I'm going to have to agree with you on Rio though. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but when I saw the previews on TV I was like "ick, that looks like a crappy movie". When I did see the movie, I really wasn't impressed then either.

Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo isn't a bad film, but the reason I dislike it is because I've seen it one too many times. Seems whenever I was in a setting at school where we had a choice of movies to watch, Finding Nemo was always one of them, and that's what everyone voted for.

Roadside Romeo - Uggghhhhh do I hate this movie. At one point it was fairly popular on AS, so out of a burning curiosity I looked it up. And do I regret it. It was like Twilight but with dogs. And I HATE Twilight.

I think I'll admit here I may have a bit of a bias against Disney (not only because they keep doing 3D movies, but also I'm a Star Wars geek and I don't like where they appear to be taking it..money grubbing...) Anyways, it could also be because I think DreamWorks does 3D far better than Disney and whatever the case I don't hate it, but I wouldn't be clamoring to buy the 5 disc bluray combo pack (which ironically I did, but for my brother as a Christmas present Lol).

I've been meaning to watch that movie, but seeing as I can't find it on the internet without bootlegging it or downloading something with a virus I've only seen trailers and random clips. Unsurprisingly though I'd say it's mostly popular in furry communities rather than a mainstream audience (I don't think it was released in US right? It was from Bollywood if I'm correct).

^ Uhhh I'm not sureee... I watched it years ago, probably back in 2009, but I do remember having to watch it with subs cause it was in Indian or something. I know I didn't watch it via download, but I have no idea where I watched it anymore so 'fraid I won't be of any help. D8

Okay...this took some thought, at least where the movies were concerned. As to television series? Not so much.

MOVIES

Kung Fu Panda - Proof that todays preteens, teens and young adults will buy into anything which features anthropomorphized animals (and worse, to the level of the animals being, essentially, humans in animal suits; beyond the point of speaking like humans but also having human physical characteristics, wearing human clothes, using human tools and machinery and such, and acting like humans). This movie was one big cliché of martial arts movies shoehorned into an animated movie...with anthropomorphized animals. It's predictable, it's boring, and it's preachy (the whole "self-esteem" thing we see over and over again in animated movies). To my mind, an insipid movie and a grand waste of time. Glad I only rented it for a dollar.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox - Oh how the furries must have celebrated the release of this movie. I didn't. Being a fan of author Roald Dahl's works, I was bothered by how Wes Anderson took that story and messed with it, adding a moody teen character going to what is apparently a very American high school setting (for one). So many distracting subplots which water down the story. And, while I am American, I was bothered by how Anderson turned all the characters with British accents into bad guys, while all those with American accents are good guys essentially. Plus, just like Anderson's other works (live action or otherwise), this look into the "flawed nature" of characters is rife with story development which made me think "alright, I get it already" which makes his film annoying and difficult to sit through. Again, glad I just rented this piece of tripe.

TELEVISION SERIES
Oh boy...THIS is going to generate some argument.

Family Guy - Nope...nuh uh. Never liked it. NOT. ONE. BIT. I find Peter Griffin to be a completely annoying bozo (especially that nasal, puttering laugh of his); I find the whole Fran Drescher-ish send up, in the character of Lois Griffin, to be as irritating as the sound of fingernails being scraped across a blackboard; I find the whole "in-the-closet" thing with the Meg Griffin character to be a dull, overused subplot...and really am sick of having that stuff shoved in my face all the time; I find the character of Chris Griffin to be a train wreck of stupidity and bad writing; I find the moralizing, anthropomorphized, martini-drinking dog Brian to be an insult to my intelligence and to dog owners everywhere (including myself); I find the character Quagmire to be a complete idiot and a lousy character; I find the character of Cleveland Brown to be an insult to portrayals of blacks (annoying, very non-black voice, lazy eyes and attitude, etc.); I find the character Joe to be predictable and boring. About the only character that is even remotely amusing or interesting (as far as I am concerned) is Stewie.

Frankly, I find no humor in celebrating the boneheaded stupidity of such characters as Peter and Chris, the hypersexuality of Quagmire, the laziness of Cleveland, the overt nasal "Jewish stereotype" (even if she isn't) of Lois, and the "I'm not a lezbian, nuh uh" (sorry -- had to misspell that...apparently the site spam filter finds that an offensive word) of Meg. Nor do I find the need to capitalize upon the "offending the masses for laughs" thing, which gained such popularity with other shows (like Beavis & Butthead, South Park, and The Simpsons), to be even remotely funny. Even though I came to basically enjoy Beavis & Butthead and South Park after initially hating them both immensely. But Family Guy NEVER has been able to get even slight laughs out of me, much less my desire to watch more than a few minutes before I get disgusted with it, or hopelessly bored. Just like was spoofed in a South Park episode, the Family Guy episodes are predictable, irritating and use dull-witted jokes as a running platform.

Of course, I never found anything by Seth MacFarlane to be worth my time (except for animated series he worked on that he had no hand in creating). Sophomoric humor just doesn't do it for me...either in animation or live action. I usually tend to prefer higher-brow products.

Adventure Time - Sorry folks...I just don't find this one to be even remotely engaging. The animation and art design sucks (and I don't care if it's designed to be minimalist or whatever), the scripting is predictable and "dudesque", and the whole concept of the series is ridiculous. And the characters were irritating to listen to, let alone look at. I watched several episodes (for as long as I could tolerate it before I thought about taking an ice pick to my temple), and I have almost never been so bored and disinterested in my entire life. Plus, having been a role-playing gamer in junior high school and high school (specifically of Dungeons & Dragons), I found nothing that reminded me of what it was like to be a gamer, much less a preteen or teenager who imagined what it could be like...whether or not I lived in a "post-apocalyptic world".

I have thoughts on other series...like My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, but ironically it's not about the series, which to me is just another animated series in the mix. No, in this case it would be the fans that irritate and disturb me. Bronies especially. And I really dislike most anime series (Pokemon; the "Ganja-Dem-Smokin'-Weed-Mahn" series; etc.), but again, it's mostly because of weeaboos, and less because of the simple fact that anime series exist (even if most of them make little freaking sense to a western mentality).

Brave - As I said in other topic, I had completely different expectations for this movie and it let me down. I found it quite boring and not so entertaining at all.

Bolt - Exactly the same as above. There was nothing great in this movie at all.

Lady And The Tramp 2 - many people seem to really like it, but for me it just a repeat of the same old story. Maybe with some better plot I'd like it more.

Having watched quite a few martial arts movies myself I can say, yes in some cases it's cliché, but honestly it didn't matter to me because I loved it. I thought the voicing was great (Ian McShane is fun to watch as Tai Lung). I was pleased with the action as well. Though I'm not a furry, I am a fan of things with anthro animals (I blame it on 90's cartoons), but I do respect your opinion on it.

I agree with you on Family Guy though. Admittedly, it has made me laugh in some cases, but really I don't get how people love it so much.

EDIT: @Troll: Just out of curiosity I checked and found out a lot of people actually didn't like Lady and the Tramp 2. I don't know if that's just the general response you got from people around the site or not, but I actually used that for movies I love that everyone else hates XD.

Movies:

Despicable Me: The main reason why I disliked this movie was because the girls just push Gru around like he's a helpless babysitter. He's like 4 or 5 times older than them and he's a super villain with a ton of high tech devices! Dude, show them who's the adult and the bad guy and freakin' lock them up or torturer them if they get on your nerves! Plus, the fact that he thinks using little girls to steal another villain's device will give him ultimate success is just pathetic. A real villain would have found a less pathetic way to do it. If you ask me, Gru was a pretty lame villain. Also, the girls themselves, mainly the middle and youngest ones, were just annoying as heck and kinda stupid. I mean, you've got all these torture and killing devices right in front of you and you aren't intimidated by that at all?

All Dogs Go To Heaven: Two dogs assume the role of would be gangsters trying to make it big in the gambling business during prohibition, but are constantly being harassed by their mob boss who thinks they still owe him and are threats to his own business. Seems like a typical mob movie to me, just with a canine twist. Plus, I couldn't stand Anne-Marie! Her voice was annoying and she constantly whined and complained. She reminds me of why I hate little kids. I also felt the courses of action that the three of them took throughout the movie were rushed because I was lost through like a third of the movie.

Series:

My Little Pony: Yes, a show containing brightly colored ponies with fancy decorations in a land of bubblegum and rainbow magic is exactly what a 17 year old kid like me would want to watch! I don't see how adults could be so into this show. It's clearly made for little kids, yet the adult fanbase for this show is probably bigger than the kid fanbase! Yes I've heard adults that like the show say that it's a great show for teaching morale lessons, but that's what every kid show is supposed to do! If adults and teens need to get their morale lessons from a cartoon made for preschoolers and kinder gardeners, they need to grow up.

(If you're a brony or pegasister and was upset by this, then bring on the hate! I don't care what you think, that's my stance on the show and I don't regret it at all.)

Adventure Time: This show was a complete ripoff of "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack," yet it somehow became more popular? How does that work? You follow the last remaining human on earth and his mutant dog, going on random adventures into a post apocalyptic world (which probably few know) and interacting with a bunch of other characters that are abstract and also mutants and following no story line in any episode whatsoever! What I find more disturbing is that it's basically everything all fine and dandy on the outside, but on the inside, complete destruction and misery. Yeah that certainly has a good vibe for elementary school kids.

I second this. Old MLP seemed uber childish to me and I watched some episodes of MLP:FiM and I still don't get what so great about it. It's like just ordinary kid show, there's nothing special in it. I didn't even find any kind of mature/adult humor that could have been secretly passed into kid show to make it more entertaining for older viewers.

These, and also (gonna get some heat for this one):

Rise Of The Guardians
My main issue with this one was the weak plot. I mean, I can see how and why people consider this a good movie, but it really did nothing for me. I found it very predictable, and it almost seemed like Dreamworks was trying too hard to add suspense to the plot. One person who still believes? Really?
Then there's the fanbase. Almost MLP-ish, in a way, IMO. I really see no need to "crush on" a character, even if he is relatively well developed, personality-wise. (Of course, being a guy myself...well, you get the picture.)
Granted, the fanbase has little to do with the quality of the movie. But for me, it only deepens my dislike for a mediocre movie.

Oh yeah, and:
The Croods
Not much to say here. Not funny, almost no plot whatsoever, and the characters got on my nerves. I actually remember thinking while watching, This is entertainment?
So yeah, I really don't see how the movie is as popular as it was. I know it's not too popular on here, but apparently it did well with critics. How, I have no idea.

Oh yeah, forgot to include these movies in my last post.

Monsters Inc. and Shrek: I hate these movies for the same reason why Mighty hates Finding Nemo. Throughout elementary and middle school, if we had a chance to watch a movie, these two movies were the ones that were ALWAYS picked! Didn't take long for me to get sick of them.

Legend Of The Guardians (the thing about owls) - I think that people like it so much just because it was about pretty owls. Plot was poor, too fast and too unexplained and the movie concentred more on showing epic 3D scenes than on actual story. Maybe the book is good, I'm not saying anything about book, but the movie sucked.

I somehow forgot to mention:

Alpha and Omega: WHY DOES EVERYONE LOVE THIS. I was actually excited for it at one point in time because 'oh wow a wolf movie where surely they're the good guys and the animation and story will be good right 8D' ...Nope. Horribly redundant plot. Boring as watching grass grow characters. Fugly animation. The background couple (Lily and... what's-his-face) were more interesting, and that's sad. I've ranted enough about this movie in other topics, but I know I'm not the only one who thinks these things about this movie.

I'm sorry I gotta say something on this:

"Weak plot"? I just saw this last weekend and I honestly don't see it. It had plots within plots and about three different morals. That's more complex than weak. And not saying they didn't work it well, because I thought they did a fine job. I got from it a message of hope, believing in not just yourself but in others, and bravery in a bad situation can be something as simple as a laugh.
As far as the predictability, it's a kids movie AND a superhero movie. Good guys always win. That's just the way it is and to make it other wise would make it a really bad movie.
-
I will agree that the Jack fans are as numerous as Loki's army, but that's about really the only thing about them that bothers me. It can't be helped if a character is loved by a large majority of fans. And every fan I've come across was always mature and never tried to start anything over who's better or force me into watching it (though granted I already wanted to from the get-go so...). *And not a Jack [or Bunnymund who's probably the second favorite] fan. Just so you know.*

Not trying to start anything, I just wanted to point out that there's more to this movie than meets the eye.

Of course, I never found anything by Seth MacFarlane to be worth my time (except for animated series he worked on that he had no hand in creating). Sophomoric humor just doesn't do it for me...either in animation or live action. I usually tend to prefer higher-brow products.

I fairly agree with all this except the Meg bit... but I don't feel it appropriate to discuss it here.

I used to like Family Guy myself back in High School, but I got annoyed with the stories and characters myself somewhat and don't watch it near as much anymore.
Which makes it kinda odd I s'pose that I'm fairly addicted to American Dad. I don't know what it is but I really do love that show.

We come from different generations, with different views on the subject. I've never shied away from making it clear that I am pretty conservative on most issues and aspects of culture. But we are all different in our views, and that's okay, as long as it doesn't lead to conflict because of lack of tolerance for those views which may not be currently politically correct.

Besides, my statement about that character was not intended to spark discussion about it. The last time the community discussed that particular subject, over the question of character submissions and fan art, we both know how that went down. And I don't think any of us wants to see a repeat of that particular train wreck. However, it does demonstrate quite clearly that it is a far more polarized and divisive issue than some would like to paint it.

I'll leave it at that.
