I read the replies to my white wolf topic, and I noticed not everyone seemed to really like the topic.Sorry,I'm new around here.Just got an account yesterday, and for some reason the site won't log me on,so all I can really do at the moment is hang around the forums.
Well, anyway,I made a new topic, and this one is more purposeful and will hopefully make a lot more sense.Could Nava be Balto's grandfather?I think he may be.It would be cool because then,at the end of Wolf Quest,Aleu would be leading her great-grandfathers pack.
There is a bit of resemblance.Nava does look a bit like Aniu. His fur is more of a golden-gray,not white, but I can't help but think that when I look at Nava,he looks a lot like he could be Balto's grandfather.
So,what do you think?

No, I don't think so. There is really no evidence that suggests Nava is Balto's grandfather. Just because they look alike, it doesn't mean that they are related. A lot of the characters from the Balto movies happen to look similar to one another. Plus, even in the real world of wolves, wolves can look similar to one another.

Yes it would be could for Aleu to be leading her great grandfather's pack. ^^ But like JC & Mighty said, I don't think so. (Pretty much just rephrasing Mighty's words here) A lot of the characters look alike, especially the members of the pack in WolfQuest. But that's a real world thing too. Many canines look alike, but it doesn't mean they're all family related, nope. Also, Nava does have quite similar markings to Balto but he can't be his grandfather. If you got the idea of them being related because Nava called Balto "son", I believe he was just saying that in away to put a tag on him. Doesn't he call his pack brothers and sisters at one point? Even though Aniu did the same of calling Balto "son" he actually responded with "mother". JC also has a point. Unless Universal proves it canon, it's no. Hope that helps. ^_^

In canon, no. It was never mentioned and probably is not so.
In a fan-verse, though, I don't see why not. I myself rather like the fan theory of him being Balto's uncle (Aniu's brother), so...why not grandfather? -shrug-

But then the question/theory does not belong on one of the movie boards, but on the fan fiction one. And worded differently (as with her topic in this board about the white wolf from the first movie). She's not presuming a fan-verse situation in her original post, but assigning relation between two characters and suggesting that we consider the possibility as a matter of fact. Since it was never stated or implied in Wolfquest, she's once again going off on a noobish tangent.

No, simply no. Honestly, there is no answer to this question unless you create your own canon by writing a fanfiction.

I remember the first times i watched Wolf Quest, at least in the Latin Spanish version Nava calls Balto 'hermano' (brother). Then i taught that they were indeed brothers, but that's because Nava's role on the movie. And Nava never mentioned that Aniu the White Wolf was his mother.
Back with the topic, i think that No. That will be mentioned on the movie or something, but no, they are don't even relatives i guess...

Is it really hard for people to understand that Nava DIDN'T use the term "brother" to refer to Balto in a filial manner (as a literal blood relative)? I continue to be amazed that so many people don't understand the inference in that little line of Nava's. Nava obviously meant it in THIS fashion: broth·er [bruhth-er] noun, plural brothers (Archaic) brethren; interjection
noun
a male numbered among the same kinship group, nationality, race, profession, etc., as another; an associate; a fellow member, fellow countryman, fellow man, etc.

Not so obvious if you are 1) not familiar with the word in that context, and/or 2) outside of a religious setting, which is where you are most likely to see it that way.

The_New_Baltic wrote: I never stated that Nava and Balto were brothers, never. Well, yeah...you kinda did: The_New_Baltic wrote: I remember the first times i watched Wolf Quest, at least in the Latin Spanish version Nava calls Balto 'hermano' (brother). Then i taught that they were indeed brothers, but that's because Nava's role on the movie. ---------- And then, in your response to my last post, you showed this (from your earlier post), as a way of "proving" your point that you hadn't actually said it: The_New_Baltic wrote: ... they are don't even relatives i guess... Great. So really all you did was contradict yourself within the framework of one post. You said he was, then you said you thought he was, and then you said he wasn't. So which is it? The_New_Baltic wrote: And: The_New_Baltic wrote: ...Then i taught that they were indeed brothers, but that's because Nava's role on the movie. Seems to me like you just proved my earlier point. Especially since this snippet of what you said also appears in the quotation farther up this post. And I presume you meant "thought", not "taught". Because I don't think you were teaching anyone that this was Nava's role in the movie, were you? The_New_Baltic wrote: With ''Nava's role'' i meant being a wolf that call other wolf (or wolfdogs in Balto's particular case) like that because he's (or was) the leader of the Pack. He wasn't ever referring to Balto, in that context, as leader of the pack. The character did state, earlier in the movie, that he initially thought that Aniu meant to communicate to him that Balto was destined to be the new leader, but he corrected all that and said he realized that it was, indeed, Aleu. He referred to Balto as a "brother" a few times if memory serves--never in direct or even inferred reference to leadership of the pack. So again, not really a strong point you're making here. And really, your interpretation of it is out of sequence anyway.
Samurott wrote: Not so obvious if you are 1) not familiar with the word in that context, and/or 2) outside of a religious setting, which is where you are most likely to see it that way. Are you for real? a) Quite frankly, one would have to be thick-headed not to arrive at what is clearly a very obvious context in Nava's statement; b) Religion has nothing whatsoever to do either with the movie or the message behind it, or general interpretation of it. It refers simply to Native Alaskan tribal spiritualism (which isn't the same thing as religion, professor ) projected, for the sake of an animated movie, onto a wolf pack. And done rather hackneyed and a bit maudlin, quite honestly. Why you would even bring up the question of whether or not it is to be interpreted in a religious "setting" is mind-boggling anyway. (Soooo, what...like, a church? A synagogue? A temple? A henge? A secret grove? I mean, those are religious settings after all. XD)

So,what do you think? Nava looks like Aniu, but it seems to me that Aniu is larger than Nava and Nava called her "great". So I think it is unlikely for Nava to be a senior of Aniu, but then there's always this chance.
