Birthmarks

Overview: What if being born with a birthmark sets you apart from the average crowd? What if for some that's a good thing, and for others... quite the horrible tragedy? In a world such as this, your birthmark defines you. It's all you've been, all you are, and all you ever will be... unless you decide to change it. But how far can one go until fate finds them and swallows them whole?

Plot: In this world, the old tale of a birthmark being where you have died in a previous life is pretty much true. Those born with a birthmark are destined for greatness... if only they could remember that. But it takes a significant event to trigger a recall of these memories and thus far it has been a rare occurrence at best for one to even come close. This trigger is a remembrance of a life or death situation that gave a person their birthmark in the first place, only this time... they must survive it. But even if they can manage that, can they survive the power that builds up after? Or will it tear them up from the inside out? It looks like two adolescents are fated to find out...

Setting: Modern Day, Urban America

Name: Caleb Andrews
Gender: Male
Age: 17 years
Personality: Quite serious most of the time, but does enjoy to laugh every now and then. Caleb is a pretty mellow guy when it comes to things such as school work and hanging with his class mates, and he has an average intellect, though is off the charts in the athletics department, although he isn't a show off and instead prefers to keep to himself rather than play any sports. He is more quiet than he'd like to be, and trust doesn't come entirely easy to him, but he will be fiercely loyal if given the opportunity, and is often too brave for his own good - he'll charge into situations without thinking.
Past Life/Death: A few lives back, Caleb was an admired war hero who went by the first name Victor. Victor was a brave man and loyal son, and he fought valiantly in many battles for his country of England. He was only a young boy when he was first recruited, so he made it home earlier than most of his fellow combat mates. While relaxing at home one night at the young age of 31, Victor was taken hostage by one of the rivaling soldiers, and he was dragged away to an unknown location. While in that location, he was tortured for information on the whereabouts of his past crew, and when he refused to talk - even after having been submerged under water multiple times and having been given many slashes to vulnerable areas of his skin - they killed Victor on the spot, by plunging a dagger into his heart. The actual stab was not what killed him - however - it was the amount of blood loss and internal bleeding that came afterwards.
Birthmark: He has a large birthmark on his chest oddly the shape of a tornado...
Eventual Powers: Upon remembering, Caleb will have the power to control storms of any kind, hence the shape of his birthmark.

Name: Parker "Parke" Ritter
Gender: Male
Age: 16, almost 17
Personality: Pretty much a jokester, this kid doesn't know when to shut up and pay attention. Parker is more of the hippie. He likes to chill with friends, he likes to smoke and play pranks on strangers and family members. He's a loud mouth, he can be heard literally from miles away. He's kind and always has something nice to say to others, never allowing a mean thought to escape his lips. He genuinely cares for others and gives more then he receives. But when ticked off (which hardly happens), he keeps quiet and to himself. He doesn't pay attention to others and just ignores, until he's ready to be okay again.
Past Life/Death: In his most recent life/death, Parker (known as Bradley in these times) was the kind of guy who everyone depended on. He was the doctor, who took care of every single patient, no matter what their situation. Although, he was poor, he somehow always managed to survive and continue to get medicine. One night, a patient stumbled into Bradley's home office in from a blizzard. Bradley, being the nice guy he was, tried to help the patient inside, who mentioned he had family outside who needed help carrying. He had three kids, and a wife. Bradley grabbed a coat and went out into the night to find the kids. He and the man managed to bring two of the kids in before they went back out to find the wife and other child frozen. On the way back to his home, Bradley slipped and fell on his back. The man continued to head towards shelter, while Bradley tried to get himself up only to have an icicle fall harshly on his chest and pierce his ribs. He tried to drag himself home only to be frozen to death.
Birthmark: On his hip, Parker has a birthmark the shape of a broken icicle, the tip missing.
Eventual Powers: He will have the ability to make ice appear whenever he sees applicable.

The basketball team had been in the middle of their practice by the time Caleb showed up to watch. His last period this year was free, and that meant he could pretty much do whatever he pleased within the time for classes. The last period of the day was also usually the time for team practices or meets, considering most of the jocks took their respective sports as electives.

Although Caleb was great at athletics and loved sports in general, the idea of being on the team never truly interested him. Instead he preferred to watch the smooth and sometimes rookie moves of the other players, smirking at their good plays and silently observing.

Although Parker wasn't an athlete, some good buddies of his were. Deciding to skip his last class, as he already knew the information being taught in his English class. He headed towards the gymnasium, placing his hat on his head and sat down on the bleachers, watching. He noticed another student in the gym, and decided whether to get up and talk to him. He shrugged, noticing he was silent and not moving much, just watching the team. On that observation, he decided to not bother the kid.

He watched the team silently. He frowned at each rough move, and smiled at each solid play. He wasn't an athlete, he could care less about the sports. But he knew his friends loved the sport, and so he wanted to look at it with an open mind. He yawned, looking quickly at the clock, noticing the time was signaling that school was almost over.

Caleb never really noticed anyone come into the gymnasium before to watch like he usually did. This was why he found it odd that another student would do so during his free period. Although the kid seemed perky and kind enough, Caleb didn't really want to introduce himself. It's not that he was shy or couldn't be bothered; he just preferred to watch the team. Somehow, although he didn't play sports... athletics seemed embedded in his genes. Almost as if he was born to do it. His mother had always enjoyed more sports than his father, though, so it was strange. In fact, his father was a meteorologist. He enjoyed watching the weather more than professional sports games.

But that was besides the point. Caleb studied the players again, smiling as he saw one of the newest team members make a three point shot. As soon as they started again, however, one of the larger fellows bounced the ball against the backboard too hard, sending it straight towards Caleb. If the kid hadn't had amazingly fast reflexes, he probably would have been hit full on the face - possibly even gotten a concussion. As it was, he caught the ball with a single right hand and the momentum of it shoved him back a few centimeters in his seat. Grinning, though, he stood and sent the ball gently back to its owner.

The coach looked up at Caleb and gave him a quick thumbs up, as if this were a regular occurrence by now. "You know, Andrews, I just don't get why you don't want to join any of our school teams. It'd boost up your average and even give you a scholarship, knowing your grades in phys ed." Caleb just shrugged, chuckling quietly. "It's not my thing, coach," he replied truthfully, and slung his backpack over his shoulder and headed out the door, waving goodbye to the basketball coach and passing by Parker as he made his way towards the exit.

Intrigued, Parker watched as this kid caught the ball with just a hand. He saw the kid and the coach exchange words, what they were? He couldn't tell but he figured it had something to do with the team. Parker knew who the kid was, he was a natural gamer, but what he did know was he would never join any teams.

Parker stood when everything was done, watching the kid walk past him. He looked at his friends, who were headed to take a shower and he decided to take a leap. "Hey!" He called out, jumping off the bleachers to stand in front of Caleb. "Do you come down here all the time?" He asked, looking at the boy, curious.

Caleb was caught by surprise as the student he had noticed only moments earlier jumped out in front of him. Blinking a few times, Caleb managed to compose himself after a few seconds of surprise. "Yeah, last period is free for me, so I usually don't have anything better to do," he replied steadily. He wasn't sure if he should trust this guy or not, but something about him said that he was okay. He seemed nice enough, in any case. "I haven't seen you around before, though. What brings you here?"

Parker nodded, listening to Caleb talk, and watched as he composed himself in a matter of seconds. "Oh I see. I normally go to math but you know, today I wasn't feeling it. I pretty much know what we're learning so I'd rather go do something else. I got some buddies on the team and they've mentioned they practice at this time, so I figured I'd come watch them, be a supportive friend and that junk." He laughed a little as he turned around and paid attention to the view in front of him. "So what're you doing now?" He asked, hiding a yawn quickly, before walking out the gym doors.

Oh, so he's smart, then... or at least probably smarter than me... Caleb thought absently. As soon as his brain registered that Parker was both asking him a question and heading for the door, Caleb followed him out. "Honestly, I hadn't thought about it. But I've been meaning to try poking around one of those restricted areas they talked about on the news." He grinned wildly for just a moment before losing it in just a small smirk. "They say it's unstable, but somehow I don't believe it..." He chuckled to himself but quickly shook himself out of it. "Sorry," he said truly. "I'm not used to talking to others too much."

Parker just looked at the strange boy in front of him and blinked. Was this guy wishing for death? He couldn't help but think that this guy was nuts. But he had nothing to do and figured if this kid was going to get in trouble, why not join him? "I think I know what you're talking about. I don't watch the news much, but it sounds fun. Do you know how to get there?" He asked, before laughing a little when he heard Caleb say he wasn't used to talking to others. "Hey, it's no problem. I pretty much do most of the talking when I'm around others. So no worries dude. But I'd be willing to go with you this this restricted, unstable area." He smiled, before realizing he didn't have his stuff with him. "Hey, you need to go to your locker?"
