I haven't much been on here but I thought some of you might enjoy this. We were supposed to take part in 11secondclub for our animation assignment this semester and I just finished mine. I found this amazing Balto rig online (http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downl ... wolfdog--2) and wanted to use it for the assignment.

Here it is:

It's my second "full" animation I've done and I only had a week so I know there are few things off but I still enjoy it.

Also I wanted to create a little project for my christmas break using this same rig so I was wondering what scene from the Balto movie would you like to see me create in 3D, the scene can only involve Balto so if he's talking to someone or interacting the other character won't be in it since I don't have the talent to rig a character.

So any ideas?

And please don't comment here if you just want to bad mouth 3D animation I don't care, I myself enjoy 2D animation as much as you guys but I'm also learning 3D animation and I really enjoy it.

I'm not a fan of going from (x) medium to a 3d medium unless it's well executed. It would certainly make fan films a more affordable (timewise) option though. If you could find someone to re-skin the rig with more texture, I would say to go for it. Just try to avoid making it look like the 3d Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. That was an example of horrible animation. It seemed to be a little too fluid, if you know what I mean. As for a suggested scene with only balto, the only scene I can think of would be the "heritage of the wolf" scene, up to the point just before the white wolf appears.

Yeah I'm not going to remake anything the idea was just to give me some practice for the Christmas break. I just wanted ideas for a short scene I could do. Also I can't retexture a rig that's not mine, I don't have premission to do that.

Wow, this is very interesting. What I think would be really cool is a 3D Balto video game (a side-scroller just wouldn't do the movie justice in my opinion), but I have no idea whether or not these Maya 'rigs' could be used in an interactive video game. If so, I might just be crazy enough to attempt it - but don't expect much, 3D video games are a LOT of work and I've been really busy lately.

Nice job on the animation, but I do agree it would be nice if you could re-skin it. I'm not really sure how this stuff works, but I would assume you'd be allowed to retexture a rig if you just asked the original author for permission.
