The Star Wars film series is probably one of the most iconic pieces of cinema in history. The Original Trilogy alone has some of the most beloved characters to ever appear on the silver screen. The film series which comprises of six films from Episode One to Six chronicles the journey of Anakin Skywalker and his redemption. Recently Lucasfilm LTD, a company founded by George Lucas was purchased by Disney for $4 Billion dollars. Immediately plans went into action to produce Episode 7 which expands on the Original Series, there are plans to release episodes 8,9 soon thereafter. What do you think of this?
My opinion is that these new star wars films will be epic failures. As if Jar Jar Binks wasn't enough this might finally be the death of Star Wars. Now instead of quality writing and story telling these films will be dull and easy to follow because afterall Disney makes films of kids and this will led to the dumbing down of Star Wars.

As opposed to the largely lame effort in the three recent movies under the command of George Lucas? Between bad scripting, dry acting, and really bad character creation, and then knuckling under without a fight, more than once, to accusations of characters being "racist"? For example: the Federation Viceroy allegedly being racist because his accent was similar to that of a Japanese man speaking broken English; and then how Jar Jar Binks was supposedly racist because he basically spoke in Rastafarian-style slang (even though the voice actor who played him is black)? Perhaps Disney will undo the Star Wars franchise. And then again, perhaps they will surprise everyone. George Lucas' effort in the last three movies was tired, largely uninspired and pretty much a let down for Star Wars fans of all types...but for a few epic elements (the light saber duels and some of the space battles; seeing Boba Fett's youth; getting a look at what the heck "the Clone Wars" even were; seeing Darth Vader's beginnings once he was horribly disfigured; seeing the Jedi at their height, and then their destruction; seeing the Wookie home world; that sort of thing). The biggest problem I have with Disney taking this over is the same concept which other Star Wars fans mentioned on external news items (in comments) elsewhere--the infamous Disney "vault". About the risk of Disney taking Star Wars movies, especially new ones they do and any spin offs, or even expected re-vamps or re-releases of the existing material, and locking them away in that freakin' vault for a few years at a stretch to "build consumer interest in new purchases". We all know how hated that tactic of Disney's is...by almost everyone (except marketing bozos who say things like "oh heck yeah! Great idea there! That's solid product marketing!" Yeah, no. Baloney. It sucks. And consumer response proves that.)

This would fall under "worst of the worst" if Disney chooses to make another movie. (Which they are I guess.) I seem to recall some talk, a couple of years or so back, before this deal may have even been under negotiation or consideration, that Lucas was working with Lucasfilm to develop a live-action television series based upon the six-movie storyline, and to link "Revenge of the Sith" up to "A New Hope" (#6 to #4, to bring the actual timeline together, never mind the confusing enumeration of the movies). I guess that project got canned. Especially if the whole magilla has been sold to Disney. Unless they plan to take a look at any projects the company was tossing around, and resurrect it. After all, I hear a Lucasfilm exec has been kept on to helm the now "branch" of Disney. An animated series would be nice...but I really HATED the art of the "Clone Wars" series. I would want to see something more anatomically-correct and realistic. So I am not hopeful in that regard. Because it seems the trend lately is to do anime-style garbage and Cartoon Network-style art (based upon the shows that feature on that network). Most of which, in my opinion, suck.

The animation is different, that's for sure. The story line and action put my questions on the style away. I'm not sure what the specific style is called, I'll have to look it up. I don't know all the shows that are featuring on CN currently (and I don't make a habit of watching a lot of them either). I'll probably expand more on this when I get the time. I don't think I'd want an anime style series either, well it depends I suppose. Of course, it doesn't seem that way right now anyway. I need a new hope, no pun intended.

I am not really sure what Disney plans on doing to expand the Star Wars films beyond Episode 6. The original actors look nothing like they once did and given that the story of what happens to Luke, Leia, and Han Solo is covered rather thoroughly in the Expanded Universe there really is no wiggle room for an entirely original story.

It would certainly have to be new actors in those roles. Or animation. If it were live action, then who knows? They'd probably go the route of so many other production companies of late..."reboot". It's been done with Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who, and who knows what else?

If Disney does decide to make Star Wars Episode 7,I can only imagine that there would be a bit of a dispute between Han Solo, and Lando Calrissian, over the Millennium Falcon's radar dish, after all,did Lando say whether,or not he would return it in one piece?,certainly not,and was it really the fault of Lando Calrissian's?,from my point of view,it was not, also,Episodes 8,and 9,would be the same way,too predictable, and downright ridiculous.
Whew,I said a lot didn't I?

Disney will ruin it, they specialise in family film, they ruin everything else, GL Is an idiot for selling, star wars if perfect the way it is, adding more will turn people away, it needs to stay how it is, its one of those serise that needs to be as it is, no more added nothing.
Disney keeps buying companys and ruins them for those who love what those company's made, disney trys to adapt everything to family and thats where all screws up, for alot of amazing movies it cant be family, it needs to stay screw family this is for personal enjoyment.
Theres enough disney crap already, we don't need anymore so the finger to disney and stick to there own company and family style and stop ruining others.
Its official I hate disney now.
