I'm working on a story about a camping trip where a lot of things go wrong - days of pouring rain, a branch falls on one of the tents, etc. I figured since most of my readers are on this site, I'd get some input here: I want to know some of the low points you've experienced on camping trips. Bears ate your food? Squirrel put a stash of nuts in your shoes? I'm all ears, so gripe away.

I'd have to say my worst camping experience was when my mom broke her ankle.

Ouch. How'd that happen?

She tripped on a rock.

Is this camping as in vacation camping or is this like any kind of camp like maybe a week long organized camp in the woods? Because if you include the latter, I have a VERY bad experience that happened to me there.

Last year there were some days of really horrible rains, though we managed to keep our camp from any serious damages and our tent was dry, our friends who were camping with us had swimming pool in their tent.
Also on the same camp, two friends, a couple that sometimes were arguing about thing so stupid, that we made fun of them and their dumb argue reasons at the same time...

Wasn't exactly CAMPING-- we had cabins, but my youth group went and had this camp to ourselves:

and it wasn't really a HORRIBLE thing, but we went canoeing.
Without paddles. Everyone got sturdy sticks, and some of the brooms left on the porches, and went off down the creek.

The worst part was when the church's laptop, one of the guitars, random cords, and the projector all got stolen.
As far as singing time, we just had to remember lyrics and do without one guitar. Didn't phase us much. Haha.

One of my friends cut her foot at the waterfall, though... that sucked.

Never go camping in dense woods, in South Florida, in July. 90-100+ temperatures the whole time.
There was also a time where raccoons got into the cooler and took a big steak that was meant for dinner.. We had thought it was locked I really well too.

Wow, you guys make my main gripe (mosquitoes) look like a walk in the park.

I was in Ohio a couple years ago, and it stormed almost the entire time. And, not so much the camping itself as the traditions, there was a ceremony on the last night that was a huge pain.

What kind of ceremony?

It was some kind of traditional thing to get a "pipestone" that supposedly came from Minnesota or something. I don't feel like going into too much detail.

As you wish. Doesn't sound like something I'd have a place for in the story anyway.
