A number of other sites I'm on have a single large forum for questions on how to use the respective site (i.e., embed images/videos, post links, etc.). New members have almost everything they need to know in one place. One prime example: http://snkhan.co.uk/forum/index.phpThis is something I've noticed AS seems to lack. There are tutorial topics for a lot of things--even username choice and how to roleplay and create a character. But they're all spread out among different forums, and newbies might be a bit overwhelmed and not think where to look. This is a relatively large site Wouldn't it be easier to create a new forum and move all the "how-to" topics to said forum? That way, everything would be concentrated in a single area of the boards instead of being scattered around. Even if there was just one thread with a link to all the tutorial threads, I think it would help a lot. I know the moderators have limited powers, and the new forum option may not be possible with the way Steet has the powers set up. This seems like the next best option. Just a thought, and I feel it would make the site seem much more professional and well-organized.

While I was browsing through the forums this morning, something I often do when I'm bored, I noticed that there is actually a topic on the Introductions thread about helpful links for new members created by UKthewhitewolf. As I read through the links, they all seemed very helpful, but then I clicked on one and realized that all of them do not work. This topic hasn't been up-dated since 2009, and it seems that all links from back when AS was just BS and TLKS no longer work since all the addresses were changed and all that technical stuff that I don't understand.
I really like this idea, though with the lack of a webmaster, it would be hard to have a forum thread. I think the best we can do is to create another topic like the one above that contains all those helpful topics. It would take a lot of work considering how many there are and how well they are scattered. After it is created, I think that a small news story about it would also be helpful to let old and new members about it so they could help spread it around to those membes who really need it.

Now that you mention it, I remember that old topic. And yes, all the links I checked are dead--that was one of the reasons I made this topic in the first place.
You're right--it would take a lot of work, but I'm sure it can be done. Though the question remains as to where to place the new topic once we do collect all the help threads. Not very many members visit the Introduction forum any more, as far as I know (even I never made a topic there), yet none of the other forums imply containing a help section.
Personally, I think it would be best to put the topic-to-be in this forum and use it to replace all the stickied topics here already. (There are enough that you need to scroll down a lot to get to the actual topics in here, anyway.) And people could see that certain things are already being worked on (maybe in a different section of the thread, kind of like DA FAQ, where it says not to ask about so-and-so.), which may help to prevent spamming via a lot of similar topics.

I would have orginally said that the topic would be best placed on the introduction forum, but as said before, it isn't visited very often by new members. Then again, do new members visit the suggestions thread more? I honestly don't know. That is why I suggested a news story to help get the knowledge of the topic around. Once a few people know, hopefully the link will spread itself around.

That's why I had originally suggested a new forum: neither "Suggestions" nor "Introduction" really seems like it would contain a forum like that, yet none of the other ones do.
Maybe there could be a way to redirect the link sent for account activation to the forum [topic] in question, regardless of where it would end up being placed. That way there's almost no chance that newbies will ignore it. And, if they say they didn't know, they have no argument.

I don't think there really needs to be a dedicated section. Plus, linked above, I liked to a topic I made that has useful information.

Mighty, while I do really love your topic and think everyone should read it if they are new, I would consider this as one of many helpful guides. It has many useful links, which aren't broken (yay!) but it doesn't have ALL of them. Actually, because I love taking on new projects for some odd reason when I already am doing so much, I took the time to make a list of all the topics that would be included in a referance topic or newbie board, and your guide is listed right below the rules.
BTW, to everyone, because I am going to create a reference topic and post it ... somewhere... could everyone please PM me some links to helpful topics. I think I got all the stickied topics, but I know that there are some helpful ones that haven't been stickied, so if you know any, send me a link! I am hoping to make a topic that is sort of like the Index of AS. It will basically be just links to guides without any advice written by me, which will be the key difference between Mighty's topic.
