Guess who just got the laserdisc... That's right. I did, and I love it!
Image

I see the complete picture and, more importantly, it runs for the original seventy-eight minutes, which means no helium audio. The color is different too. Not better or worse, just different.

In the future, I'll likely try to transfer it to a digital medium, but that will cost money I can't currently spare. Until then, I'm quite happy.

If you have any questions about this version, I will happily answer them to the best of my ability, but my playback capabilities are currently limited to composite video and analog audio.

Agree with Mighty, likely eBay.
There's another Balto Laserdisc on eBay.com right now, actually. xD

Then I stand corrected about finding it there.

I'd LOVE to see the Laserdisc's quality. (Any laserdisc is higher-quality than DVD and slightly lower than Blu-ray), and all the color changes and such. However, that's pretty much impossible because there's just no way to hook up a laserdisc player to a computer to take screencaps.

I'll see what I can do. I don't have a capture card right now, but I'll try to take a picture of the TV (likely it will look like garbage). I'll do my best to show the color differences.

Sorry for the hiatus on this topic. I had a difficult time using my LD player in my college dorm (space constraints). I did however manage to take a few snapshots of the LD picture, and will have them up shortly. For now here is a little tidbit I discovered in the process.

While I trust that the Laserdisc version is in fact the "theatrical presentation", I have reason to doubt its completeness.

As I was preparing my snapshots of the LD for comparison next to the DVD, I discovered this...

Extra width (DVD)

Image

Extra height (LD)

I double checked several times, so it is not an error on the part of my player, camera, or photo editing.

It seems to me there is no "complete" version of Balto available anywhere.

I'll follow up with color comparisons shortly. That will be much more entertaining.
