So...

Most of you surely know that some people on here (Mostly new members) post artwork and images which are either plain out stolen or against any other rule. (It mostly happens in fan-images so I´ll keep addressing such "works" as image now)

Such things do get reported, moderators deactivate them - case closed. But really? No.
Deactivated submissions aren´t gone, far from it, they are still accessable. Sure, you can´t see them in the gallery. There isn´t a thumbnail of the deactivated image anymore BUT people can still find/see it.

How?

Go to the thefts gallery and open the first image, then keep navigating through the images using the "next" button you can find under the description. Sooner or later it´ll take you to the deactivated post. Further, the creator can still send links to the image and share it with friends.

That´s NOT deactivated in my opinion. When something gets deactivated (and it mostly happens for a reason) it shouldn´t be visible for anyone but the creator (to apply possible changes and re-submit the image) and moderators. It does work for the characters so why not for images/artwork? Plus deactivated images are still counted, so it´s another way for members to cheat the "Artwork with official charaters: - with non official characters" rule. Let´s say they simply render Steele into Steele. It is against the rules and does get de-activated. (Or at least it should) Okay, it "seems" to be gone but still counts as "Image featuring an official character"

Deactivated submissions shouldn´t be counted by the system, just like any image waiting for valiation. It should be like non-exsistent at all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know this is a rather pointless rant about something that isn´t really worth ranting about.

First off, I think that stolen stuff should be automaticaly removed, NOT deactivated. Of course I mean the ones with strong proof (like there was a time of person who recolored Cat's artwork). Only the unsure ones should be deactivated. Everyone make mistakes and can report something that is original creation.

I agree with the cheating like I medidtioned before, people colour linearts made from Balto to Balto and post it as their first image just to have something with official characters. Also, it annoys me that many stuff is not being properly checked, which resutls galleries with those clearly stolen images and images of only fan characters with official Balto chars tagged.

Considering AS seems fine with certain forms of theft *coughrenderscough* I'm surprised a lot of it is even sorted out.
Not surprised the deactivation system doesn't work either to be honest.

Mods used to be able to delete works, and entire galleries. Then Steet changed it for some reason I can't fathom.

It's definitely something that needs to be brought back up to him, thanks for the reminder 83

I made a little notice. People on here, especially staff are really soft towards art thieves. Still, famous excuse like "this member is new/young, let them learn." Sadly, half of them do not learn. Once I joined a site where I was harshly threated and banned because I stole screenshots(!) from there(which I though and I still think that screenshots shouldn't be copyrighed by any fansite). I probably get unbanned only because of my determination and help from a friend, but I can't say this wasn't an important lesson. Those people were not afraid to punish me, even though this would have "hurt my poor feelings" and it was good from them, to care about keeping the site, not about pleasing one n00bish member. Today I understood AS need those balls too.

Do it like a real man, arr!

Yes, this is what Sakujo thinks about while learning to importan exams...

I agree with that 100% Joining this site does NOT make you stupid the moment you join.

Careful guuuuys! I mean, jeepers weepers, how can you be so golly-gosh-jiggely insensitive to those poor, innocent, well-meaning teenagers? Gee whiz...they just don't understand how the system works, is all! You should realize by now that we all live in our first-world societies which frown upon personal responsibility and truly expressing how you feel!

I think it's terrible that you don't want to be their surrogate parents, and educate them into the proper mores and ethics of social networking! How could you be so cold?! How?!? It's your DUTY to be their teachers! YOUR DUTY!!!

How are we easy on thieves? We give one warning the first time they do it, then a 1 month ban the next time, without warning. I know I don't take it lightly, and I'm sure to give the member strict warning not to do it again.

But I wonder, is this more about characters? One looking too much like another? Because those are trickier to say 'stolen' with since often, markings and colors are going to be similar. Either the markings are very basic, like Balto, Aleu, Jenna etc... or the member goes for realism and use gray, brown, black and/or white combinations that may unintentionally look like another's. Also, being inspired by another artist doesn't always mean stolen. Yeah I've seen a lot of characters where that is an excuse, and if the markings are exact to too similar, we do deactivate them, asking them to edit the markings to be more creative.

But instead of constantly complaining about it in rants like these, tell us if you think something is wrong. One mod may just have been unsure about it, or some other reason. Or maybe they're not as used to the section it was reported in. Point is, if one mod does something you don't particularly like, just ask another one about it to confirm. You're not going to get in trouble for doing it, and if a mod is doing something wrong, then we'd know and can talk to them.

Thanks for crearing that up for me. So maybe it's because of member's behaviour in general or maybe I concentred myself on some other things as well.
Definitely, no one cares about this "cheating" me and Jordan meditioned. Also, I found another example of cheating on official characters ratio. Just browse images with Muk, Luk or Boris tagged. Half of them are renders out of images with Balto/Aleu and Boris/Muk/Luk together, where people render only canine characters and leave Boris/Bears as they were, even though they have nothing to do with their characters. Some examples:

http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... mart=18563

You have official Balto chars here! Yay! You can post more adoptaballz!
