If You Only Had One Passion In Life, What Would You Do To Save It?

Introduction

I have noticed an increasing interest in hoses and riding and ranching lately, so I decided to have a go at it. I'm not the biggest expert on horses or riding them, but I know enough to get by. Please correct me if I am wrong about anything! I know this is not my best plot, but I'm out of inspiration for the day.

Plot

When the Dawn Horizon Horse Riding Academy first opened, Katie Smith thought all her dreams were coming try. She begins training her students and hiring some staff, and all seems well. Seemingly out of nowhere, Katie can't seem to pay for the land, the stables, and the lounge building anymore. She can barely pay for her own house. She didn't pay close attention to her financials, and now her land is dangerously close to having to be auctioned off and her business ruined.

When she relates this news to her students, they are determined to keep the ranch alive. They begin to plan fundraisers and asking parents and relatives for money, but it may not be enough. They only have a month to raise over two thousand dollars. Some of the students begin to think the only way to get the money is to sell some of their horses. Will the group have to go to such measures, or will they come up with the money in time? And even if they succeed, will they be able to keep the ranch open afterwards?

Personality: Rose is very fiery and will always stand up for one of her friends or something she believes in. She is very stubborn and won't let anyone tell her she can't so something. Rose is also much more athletic than she is smart, so she often rushes into things without thinking it through. Luckily, one of her friends normally gets her out of trouble.

Personality: Jer is not the type of person you would want to give orders to because he rarely ever listens to them. You have to plant the seed with him and let it grow. He has to like something enough to be enthusiastic about it, and if he is not, he gives up on it entirely. When it comes to things that disinterest him (such as school work, for example), he’s quick to give up when the going gets rough. It’s entirely the opposite when the situation is reversed, however. Upon doing things he loves such as drawing, riding horseback, interacting with animals, hiking, and other passionate activities, he is quick to jump at the first chance to get better. He is averagely athletic as he is good when it comes to stamina but not one for non-horse related sports as he thinks they are a waste of time. He would rather be on the sidelines and be left to daydream and watch the scenery than be apart of some stupid game meant for others’ entertainment. He makes friends with a bit of some difficulty, because most people don’t know him well enough to feel comfortable approaching him. He is not shy, however, he is quiet a lot of the time because he is a thinker and a daydreamer at heart.
Other: He owns and takes care of his own horse, Shade (a thoroughbred), though since Dawn Horizon Horse Riding Academy allows him space to keep his horse, he donates a lot of his winnings from barrel races to Katie for the funding of the center. Barrel racing is his preferred sport when it comes to horses. Jeremy also recently fell in love with and bought a horse he used in quite a few barrel races when Shade was injured. Now that Shade has healed, this new horse, Damian (a mustang), serves as both a friend and another partner for Barrel Racing.

Bic:// The lounge room stood silent in the after math of Katie's announcement. She had entered the room only moment ago, breaking through the care free atmosphere to deliver the horrible news that if she could not come up with two thousand dollars by the end of the month, the ranch will be closed and sold. Rose watched Katie with wide, dark blue eyes, waiting for the good news to follow. But it never came. Instead, Katie simply left her four students in the much too quiet room, exiting the building to finish some chores that would, hopefull, keep her mind out of dispair.

Rose tucked her legs under herself, burying herself even deeper in to the couch cusions. She crossed her arms over her stomach as she looked at everyone in the room one at a time, just waiting for someone to say something. Anything to break the silence in the room which seemed to be physically choking Rose's lungs into speechlessness. Finally, Rose swallowed down the hard silence like a pill and spoke up. "Well... what are we going to do?" she asked, again glancing at her fellow students. "I mean, we have to do something." After spending nearly all their time here, Rose couldn't imagine that any of them would be willing to give up the ranch without a fight.

She glanced over the room at Rose. She sighed mentally, running her thin fingers through her thick hair. Well, my friend owns a truck stop a few miles south of here... I-I could get a job. O-Or Obsidian and Oreo could continue their stud services. Rose is right either way, we do have to do something. Margret's shoulder itched slightly, making a small red spot on her shoulder blade. Margret would never decide to ever sell Oreo or Obsidian. That was out of the question entirely. Why did everything have to be so complicated? Margret blamed herself, her mother's death and everything else that messed up in her life. Margret sighed again, glancing at Katie. She let her thoughts wander, lifting her arm and repositioning herself on the comfy couch cushions.

Matt listened in horror and glanced over at Margret, he nodded, agreeing with what she said, he thought about something he could do. "Well, I could start being a farrier and vet for other barns as well, or I could try and compete nationally again to win the purse, or if... if I have too I could sell one of my horses, every top rider in the world would die to get their hands on one of my babies..." he said the last part painfully, he'd hate to sell one of his babies... (babies as in horses)

bic//~ Gage stared down at his boots as they softly scuffed the ground. He took them in completely, memorizing the sewn patterns across the worn, brown leather. He frowned deeply as he tried to piece together all the times he's been here at the riding academy. He found it impossible since he spent every day here, no matter what. He glanced up at all the downcast faces, and bit the inside of his cheek as everyone came up with suggestions and idea on how to raise money. He already had two jobs, he knew he wasn't good enough to win any contests, and there was no way he was selling Zephyr. For once in his life, Gage kept his mouth shut. He couldn't think of anything to say that would make this situation any better.

Well, there has got to be a better way to get the money," she said to Matt, noticing the fear in his voice at even the thought of selling one of his horses. "I'm sure none of us want to sell any of our horses. As for competitions, I mean, yes, definately. But there has got to be a more sure way of getting money." Rose looked out the square window of the lounge, obviously deep in thought with her crinkled nose and squinting eyes. As if an idea had physically hit her, she suddednly jumped up and quickly turned her body around in the couch. "What about a fund raiser? I mean, all kinds of people do that to raise money for all sorts of things. Why can't we do that?"
