Honestly, I was positively shocked that someone hadn't already put a topic about this, and I realized a bit late. I know this movie came out around Christmas 2011, but it was a spectacular movie that still deserves all the praise it has earned. Here is my review:
10/10 This movie absolutely astounded me. I read the book a few years back, which was one of only two books in a long list of those I've read which have ever made me cry. From what I remember of the book, the movie pertained to a lot of simple details which the book had, and the movie kept much of the aspects of it. Sure some things changed here and there, but I honestly didn't mind because it was executed so well. The movie in itself is simplistic, with a challenging but hearty plot and a tale where all can relate. It twists and turns in ways that one couldn't simply guess, and everything tied together beautifully. The length didn't bother me at all, although I know some of my friends don't like long movies and steered clear of it for that reason. I'm extremely glad it was long, for it allowed much more room to incorporate things from the book, and it told the story even more nicely. It was extremely well paced, perfect in its message, and absolutely lovable from all aspects of viewing. <3 This movie certainly deserves the oscar that it has been nominated for!
So what are everyone else's opinions on this movie?

Whoa.. I happened to just find this topic, and turns out it's slowly dying! :c This is one of those movies that /almost/ made me cry, but the tears never came. It makes you want to cry so much, but I only teared up at some parts haha. I suppose that counts as close to crying though, eh? This is an extremely touching movie. Not sad all the way through, got some humor here and there, and then there's those bittersweet moments that tug at your heart. I love the story and how it goes through, especially

watching how the war ribbon travels with Joey through all the different battles and journeys he faces . Got a 10/10 on IMDb from me!

I agree with Moki and Paxis, War Horse is an absolutely incredible film. Heck, the Duchess of Cambridge walked out of the cinema crying.

I really liked how both of Albert Narracott and Joey's adventures could easily be historically accurate (perhaps not as dramatic, of course). As many people at a very young age were enlisted into the way, and had to almost immediately fight in battles (Second Battle of the Somme, 1918 features in the film). In addition to that, horses were frequently taken by the 'Jerries' to be used as essentially slaves. Which, as seen in the movie, did often result in a horse's death. 10/10 for me.

7/10 for me. Don't get me wrong it was a great movie, I loved the World War I setting and the horses were amazing. But I generally don't like sad movies or movies with too many sad parts in them. It blurs the lines of the good/bad so much that I found myself connecting with and feeling the stories behind them, but I still get frustrated

with how many people die or have unhappy endings :C the two German boys, and the French guys granddaughter, I mean what the heck. But that's war, and war never changes. It's a very long and intriguing story, definitely one of the best horse centered movies I've ever seen.
