If You Had One Chance To Make It Right, Would You Risk It All To Take It?

Introduction

I have pretty much given up on this section of the roleplaying board since it seems to be pretty much dead, but I decided to give it one last chance. Don't disappoint me!

Also, this idea is inspired by the actual Iditarod races.

Plot

It has been three years since Balto returned to Nome carrying the medicine that saved the town. His children have grown up and are beginning to move on with their own lives, but they are all brought back together when Steele returns to town, begging the dog to allow him to come back home. He tells a tragic tale about how he has been wondering the forest every day since he was banished from Nome, and the younger generation of dogs take pity on him, even Balto's own children. The older dogs reluctantly allow Steele back into Nome, but he has a plan in his mind that no one is aware of.

What they don't know is that Steele has been living happily in Elim, a town farther than White Mountain, and he has only come back to Nome because of the anniversary race to celebrate Balto's return. He plans to prove he has put the past in the past by running the race with Balto, but finding a way to sabatoge, hurt, or even kill him during the race.

But with everyone convinced he has had a change of heart, the town is ignorant of his scheme. Even Balto begins to trust Steele a little and accepts Steele onto his sled team. During the race, though, Steele's sabatoge gets the entire team lost in a storm. Within the blizzard, Steele begins to see his chance to redeem himself by saving Balto and his sled team; he would be the hero that saved the hero! But as he helps Balto and the others for selfish reasons, will Steele's heart soften? Will he help save the sled team for the right reasons? It all depends...

History: Saba was adopted by a nice family, but she has always longed for the forest. She tried sled racing, but knew it wasn't for her. She plans on traveling to find Aleu and her pack one day.

Personlity: Lillian has a mean side to things, doesn't always stay on the positive type. When you really get down and understand her she is the kindest dog.
History: Lillian moved around a lot because her owner was apart of the navy and she was left a lot alone due to the fact his owner was gone on ships. She didn't always see him. He finally has retired and return to Nome his home town. Where Lillian is new to the place.

Personality: Kyra is a spunky and outgoing girl. She has a desire to please her owner and get work done. She is not that prissy but can be a little bit. Kyra will usually back down from any fight and keep her mouth shut. Kyra can some times cause trouble but most of the time she is just relaxing and minding her own business.
History: Kyra was born in Nome, Alaska along with 7 of her other brothers and sisters. Kyra grew up loving Alaska for its sports, dogs, and people. Thinking it was just a beautiful place all over. Kyra ran into Steele one late afternoon, not thinking he was such a grouch. Kyra soon developed a crush on him but knew everyone else would hate her too if they figured it out. Kyra got a job as a delivery dog, making sure the town got all of their supplies needed.

History: Boris was flying over the beautiful town of Nome, Alaska and landed there. He was just a gosling when he arrived. Soon growing up with Balto there. Boris thought of himself as a caretaker for Balto and soon became his best friend. Boris later on met Kyra and became her friend as well.

You are both accepted. I gave Kyra the swing dog position because Lillian is a malamute and would be better as wheel dog. But they can still both have a crush on Steele.

Free_Wolf - Could you change Olivia's appearence? She is the daughter of Balto and Jenna, but she has a black coat... Can you just give her a picture or description that looks more like her parents?

All we need now is Balto, Dingo, and a wheel dog, so we should be starting soon!

Ooc:// We will start the morning of the race, a few hours before the start of it.

Bic:// Steele stretched his legs out in front of him, hearing a comforting crack as his joints rested into their proper place. He shook out his black and white fur before trotting out of the shed that had been lended to him by one of the female dogs that lived in Nome. The night had been very comfortable with many pillows and blankets along with his very own space heater. It almost felt like home. Steele pushed away these thoughts of his place back in Elim, remembering that today was race day. Todays, he would get his revenge on Balto for stealing his glory and return home the hero instead of that mutt.

As he headed out into the street, he noticed Nome already bustling around in excitement for the race. The day was still fairly early, but already there were mushers and dogs tacking up for a pratice run around town. People were putting up banners and ribbons, and the starting line at the center of town was already roped off. Steele smirked at the scene, catching the scent of freshly cooked meat that he knew would be his reward when he returned from the race, the lone survivor who tried to save his fellow dogs despite how impossible it turned out to be. With his head held high, Steele sauntered down the side walk towards the boiler room where the rest of his sled team would be gathering before the race.

Saba squrimed out of the small gape in the wooden fence that lined her owner's property. Panting slightly from the effort, Saba perked up as soon as she was free from the limiting border. She had just turned to take a step towards the busier section of town when a familiar voiced called her name. Immediately, her ears snapped to the back of her head and her tail tucked itself between her legs. She slowly turned around to face her mother standing next to the wooden fence. "I thought I'd find you sneaking out here," she said with a knowing smile.

Chuckling with little humor, Saba sat down on the snow bank and shrugged. "Just wanted to go out and see the start of the race. I'll be back before they notice," she said so tentively that it almost sounded like a question. Jenna nodded aprrovingly, and Saba's posture straightened up more confindantly. The two females walked together down the street towards the starting line of the race, but niether of them spoke much. While Saba stared at the sky with a dreamy gaze, Jenna stared in front of herself, contemplating how she should tell Balto she was pregnant again. Ever since she had found out a week ago, she had been going back and forth between telling him before the race or telling him after. She didn't want him worrying about her while he ran, but she also worried that something might happen. She just couldn't decide what to do.

Footsteps rung out through the house like a bell. She lifted her head, her chin imprint still in her blanket. Kyra heard her master's voice and wagged her tail. Kyra got slowly off her blanket, stretching and shaking out her fur. She smiled, greeting her owner with licks and happy jumps. Kyra looked up at her, waiting for a command. Say it. Say it! She thought excitedly, her owner chuckled and opened the door. Telling Kyra to go play. Kyra shot out of the door and ran around while her owner took care of business. Kyra shut her eyes but slammed into Steele, falling on her back.

Kodi had woken up at the crack of dawn. Excited about the races and was ready to show Balto how well he is at racing. He finally heard people out about the town. Running back into town from the ocean side. Kodi saw a female dog run into Steele running straight up to Steele and growling at him a little. He understood people might have trusted him now but he still had it in him that he is evil. "What did you do to her." He said growling his fur standing up.

Olivia ran up to Jenna, she seemed worried and out of place. "Whats wrong mom? Worried dad's going to get lost again." She said laughing knowing the story about her father.

Lillian was new in town and didn't know much about the racing bushiness. She knew more about the water then anyone else. All of a sudden she heard her owner coming down the stairs to the front door about to walk out. Lillian slipped out the front door with him not looking for her owner would have never let her out with out a leash. She started to head toward the town were all the noise was coming from. She heard a two female dog talking near her but she didn't pay to much attention to them because she didn't know them that well. Off she went heading to the center of the town.

She arose to her paws, shaking the snow off. She looked at Kodi, eyes filled with nothing but smiles and friendship. He didn't do it. I was the one who was running and not paying attention. She said and gave a soft smile. She looked at Kodi's eyes, she could hear Boris talking to Balto. Kyra didn't know that Kodi didn't trust Steele. Everyone else seemed to. Kyra let her mind wander onto cloud 9 after a while.

Steele silently showed his teeth as a dog crashed into him, sending him back a few steps in his walk. Then he noticed that the canine who had run into him was a pretty female. He smiled his most dashing grin at her, about to apologize when Kodi stepped in. This mutt was even worse than his father, and Steele had developed quite a dislike for him. His lips curled up in a distasteful growl when Kyra spoke up. He nodded in triumph, shooting Kodi a sneer. "Yes, but I should have seen a pretty dog like you from a mile away," Steele said in his new sickly sweet voice that he had adopted ever since he returned to Nome. His gaze returned to Kyra, who looked like she wasn't paying attention to hear his compliment. Holding back a snarl of frustration, Steele merely frowned at the two dogs he would be racing with later that day. "Well, lets go. Balto's probably waiting for us at the boilder room already." Ever the past few days, Steele had learned not to curl his lip at the sound of Balto's name, but when he said it, there was a tiny bit of disgust evident.

Jenna forced a laugh as her daughter surpised her. She hadn't meant to look worried, but she guessed that it had slipped on to her face. "You know how I get before I big race, dear," she said in her most calm voice possible.

Saba noticed Lillian walk by them and heading in the same direction to the center of town. "I'll be back," she said, running across the street and slowing her pace when she reached Lillian's side. "Hey, Lillian," she panted in greeting. "Are you pumped for the big race today?" Saba didn't know Lillian that well, but she wanted to ask her about the race since she would be running with her father and brothers and sister at the race today.

Kodi heard Steele and frowned at him because he saw Steele snarl as he said his father name. "Then let's get going." Kodi said still having his ears pinned back. He gestured for Krya to go in front of him.
As they approached the boiler room. Kodi saw only a few dogs were there.

Olivia laughed at her mother and nuzzled her. " You know we will be fine. Nothing bad has ever happened to us. Well there has been times but we always come back." She said thinking hard. For the team always got lost at some point or another but always found Nome again.

Lillian heard the paws of someone approaching her. She quickly turned before the dog could even speak a word. Her ears pinned back a little because she doesn't know Saba that well but knew of her being Balto daughter and everything. "I am doing fine. I guess. Tired from all the noise in my house." She said smiling heading towards the boiler room because she over heard Kodi say thats where they were suppose to meet.

She blushed heavily at Steele's kind words. She giggled sweetly and walked beside him. She was a little shorter than him. Kyra smiled, thinking Oh my goodness. He does like me! Her heart fluttered and felt like it was going to jump out of her chest and hug Steele. Kyra smiled and just followed him.
