Can You Resist The Lust For Power? Will You Even Survive To Find Out?

Plot

before...

When a couple of friends decide to explore the forest and caves outside of their town, they never expect to find a strange glowing stone embedded in the walls. Nor were they prepared for the cave in. Trapped for hours, they all begin to loose hope, until they figure out that breaking out is much easier than they thought. They all have developed new powers that enable them to quickly exit the cave, return home, and vow to never speak of this incident again.

The group has noticed their powers are growing stronger everyday, and some are loosing control of them. That is when another group finds them, telling a story about how they found the cave and discovered its power as well. These people, however, have developed their powers and have total control over how they use them. But they want more. They have heard myths about a lake inside the cave that could enhance their powers completely, making these teens untouchable. Then, of course, they have world domination (for the betterment of mankind, of course) in their sights. While most of the newly empowered teens disagree with this power-hungry group, a few of them join the others in the quest for the lake. The rest of the teens realize they must stop this group before they reach the lake.

The journey into the cave will be long and the tunnels will be a maze. There will be many obstacles and creatures that guard the path to the lake. Can a group of teens still unstable with power stop the others from reaching the lake and seal the cave in forever? Will the journey be too diffcult and cause them to seal the others alive inside the cave? Or will they be destroyed before they make a choice?

Setting

This takes place mostly inside the cave which is filled with tunnels. The more dangerous path is always the one leading to the lake. It will be dark inside, so I hope you've brought your flashlight.

You may join as one of the teenagers with new powers or one who discovered the cave before; remember, some of the new teens will join the quest; you may also join as a creature inside the cave which you can bring in at anytime but remember that this creature will most likely die

You character (even the creatures) can have any power you can think of; just keep in mind that it grows stronger throughout the roleplay unless you are one of the teens who found the cave before the others than their power if fully developed and you cannot give them any more power

Name: Katherine "Kat" Cooke

Power: Kat has the power to change her form. At first she can only change the color of her hair or eyes and the length of her hair or nails, but she begins to learn she can actually change parts of her body at the begining of the story. As time progresses, she develops more into a full shape shifter.
Personality: Kat is mostly quiet around new people, and has trouble trusting people. She is a very loyal friend though and tries her hardest to keep the peace when others are fighting. She often finds herself in the middle of disagreements because she is a great listener and can see all sides of an arguement. Kat also can be a very big flirt, though she doesn't realize it. She is very sarcastic and can be pretty funny, but only her friends know this. She never gives up on people or situations, and is ever the optimist.

Power: Damian has inhuman strength that allows him to over power any enemy. Now that his power has fully developed, he has learned how to project this strength in a shield that will push back an attacker. It only lasts long enough to cause the attacker to slide back several feet before disappearing.
Personality: Damian's personality is a power all to itself. He has a powerful way with words that can inspire a whole group or just a single person. He has a certain way of convincing people to do whatever he wants. Although he doesn't lose his temper much, he is very scary when he does. Also, he isn't tthe most bright, and is more brawn than brain.

Power: Simply, Anya controls water. At first, she can only control it when she is emotional, mostly when she is angry. She soon learns to keep a hold on it whenever, and can even pull water from the air.
Personality: Anya always seems to have something to say, but she isn't opinionated at all. She is very weak minded and can be lead astray easily. She tends to side with the winning team, which leads many to distrust her. She also has no problem lying to gain acceptance and always has a story to cover her betrayals.

Power: Finks, as with most of her species ate excellant at mind games. She will try to confuse those her enter the cave and convince them to go back. She also gives the warning that she is not the most dangerous creature in the cave. Also, she has prophecies of the future and can sense things about a person just like a psychic.
Personality: Although Finks will try her best to get people to leave, she is a kind soul and will not kill. She tends to change her personality depending on who she is talking to. She can be sweet and sultry than turn angry and violent within a single sentence.

Name: Alex Campbell
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Group: New Powers
Power: Alex has the ability of super speed. At first, he can basically just run really fast, but eventually he learns how to use it more effectively, as in moving his arm in circles quickly to cause a tornado like effect.
Personality: Alex tends to be the comedian in the group, always trying to make light of the situation. He also hits on practically every girl he runs into, though it never really develops into a relationship, and no one ever takes it seriously, including Alex. He tends to be a bit impulsive, made only worse by his powers, which cause him to have a rather short attention span (as the rest of the world seems to pass so slowly in comparison). He can also be a bit tempermental and argumentative, but only when he's been provoked, most of the time.
Other: Not only do his powers result in a short attention span and high energy levels, but his metabolism works incredibly fast, meaning he requires many more calories than other people would.
Appearence: He has light, dusty brown hair that always seems to be messy and scruffy. He has light brown eyes, accompanied by the barest hint of freckles across the bridge of his nose. While not the tallest, he is compact and lithe, giving him a somewhat atheletic appearance.

Name: Theresa "Terra" Raymond

Power: Terra begins with the ability of telepathy, mainly picking up on others' emotions when it is strong. She eventually begins to notice she can send thoughts of her own, and quickly realizes she can set up a mental link between herself and others, though people can block her out if they try. As she grows stronger, she also finds that she has telekinesis to an extent.
Personality: Terra tends to be kind of closed off towards others at first, mainly because she's afraid of being judged harshly, something she's had experience with in the past. However, she will open up to others immediatly if they are kind to her, and in return, she immediatly becomes a loyal, gentle friend who is a great comforter and listener. While curious, she can be afraid to let her opinions show at times, though she's been trying to improve that around her few friends. The only time she ever gets mad is if someone she loves is in danger; then, she'll become overprotective and determined. She can also be surprisingly stubborn.
History: Terra was abandoned by her somewhat abusive mother after her father left. She was adopted when she was 9 by a somewhat older couple who were never able to have children of their own. Due to her looks and the fact that she was mute, she was bullied quite a bit, and survived only by sticking to the shadows and becoming closed off from others.
Other: She is an albino, and mute as well.
Appearence: She has the distinctive red eyes of an albino, accompanied by the pale hair and pale skin. She is small and light in build, and appears quiet and shy upon first glance. She wears glasses, the rectangular frames made of thin bronze-colored wire.

Power: Maya can control fire. At first, she could only manipulate what was already there, but soon found herself able to create her own flames. When she experiences extreme emotion, the flames heat to the point where they become a blue color.
Personality: While not evil, Maya is ambitious, and tends to come across as cocky and uncaring. She seperates herself from others, refusing to develop a close bond with them, mainly because she's afraid of being hurt by losing them, which is why she can come across as uncaring or cold. Actually, she can have really sweet, tender moments, but those don't occur often. She can be moody and tempermental, provoked easily, but manages to cool off fairly quickly if given the chance to be alone. She acts tough and emotionless, always hiding any weaknesses she might have.
History: Maya's older sister died when Maya was only 7. Anna was Maya's role model, and always managed to find time to spend with her baby sister. When she died, Maya promised herself she wouldn't let herself ever be hurt like that again, so closed herself off from others.

Appearence: Maya has caramel colored skin, a pretty tan color that goes well with her dark hair and dark eyes. She is fairly tall for her age, and tends to have a leaderly, sure air about her.

Power: Controlling electricity/lightning
Personality: It takes an extremely long amount of time for someone to gain his trust, and he is vigilant in case someone were to betray him. Once he knows you, though, he can be a fiercely loyal friend. Ashton isn't afraid to do the right thing, even if it may not be the easiest. He is usually brave when it comes to the physical things, and strategic in every sense of the word (he tends to think overtime due to his paranoia that someone will betray him), though he isn't so specialized when it comes to making friends - or keeping them for that matter. It takes an extremely sensitive person to realize just how bad he fears people's abandonment, and often times he hides his emotions because he feels it shows too much weakness. In this, he destroys himself from the inside out.

Power: Although it may not be viewed special at first, Jamie develops the power to fly.
Personality: Jamie is an awfully nice person who is also somewhat gullible. If led to believe she is in good hands, she will most likely take your word for it point blank. She doesn't like seeing the evil in things because in her heart of hearts, Jamie is able to notice the good in everyone. Jamie, while good at comforting others, can become an enraged girl when faced with the obvious prospect that she had been duped. This means that although she is naive, she is not altogether stupid, and she will act upon any unjust action that she knows for sure has taken place.
History: Jamie has never truly been a rebel when it comes to school and her average grade would be somewhere from a B- to an A+. She has been taking martial arts classes ever since she was a toddler, and although she stopped taking gymnastics at the age of 8, she is still extremely flexible.

Power: Cameron has gained the ability to produce corrosive acid, and has become immune to the substance itself.
Personality: Cameron struggles between knowing the differences between right and wrong. His conscience is a bit dodgy, and he mostly just does things out of survival instinct. He can be brought to see the light, but he can at times be hard-headed in the sense that he doesn't usually allow people to help him. He isn't usually one to hide all of his feelings, but he isn't a blabbermouth either. Cameron is good at keeping secrets, and is a quiet sort of individual, but he is not afraid to speak his mind (however jumbled up it may be).

No matter what his wishes, Frost will make sure his duties are accomplished first - though that doesn't mean he can't throw a bit of entertainment in there, does it?

Name: Daniel "Danny" Thompson
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Group: New powers (if needed he can 'Join Quest' it's up to you Rose.)
Power: Mimicry. Often confused with shapeshifting. Mimics have three specific traits that make them different. Danny, at first, can only change the texture and appearence of his hands, to use as camoflauge (EX: making his hands look like tree bark.) As his powers grow stronger he can camoflauge his whole body, Mimic animals by taking on their appearence, and mimicing sounds he hears with great accuracy (even mimicking voices). However, at first usuing his powers causes him a great deal of pain as he learns to control them, this isn't as big of a problem.
Personality: An intresting character. Danny is often steryotyped as the "bad boy", which, dosen't bother him in the least. But, he's not so much a "bad boy" as a rebel. Danny loves anything loud an destructive. He's a masterful bass guitar player and is still learning drums. He's clever and somewhat of a smart elick. But all an all he's a sweet caring young man.

Other: As a mimic he can imitate any creature (mythical or real) so long as he has seen it (photos of creatures also apply). He only mimics the creatures, he dosen't take on their personalities, and even in animal for he can still speak and even walk on two legs.

Name: Deveron Quillian Black
Age: 18

Group: New Powers
Power: Dev can basically control the darkness and shadows around him. He can conceal himself into the shadows which makes him almost invisible. With further training he will be able to shield himself with the darkness along with other people.
Personality: Calm and level headed, has a "don't give a crap" attitude, isn't much of a talker and has that mysterious feel to him, has a very good way with words and is often caught using sarcasm or snide remarks. Doesn't open up right away, once he knows you and trusts you, his barriers start to come down. Dev just has that cool swagger feel to him, he knows how to stay classy and does in most situations. However, on rare occasions, if Dev loses his temper he explodes, and it's not fun. Something about Dev just attracts others to him, maybe it's his held back personality or piercing eyes, but of course he is oblivious to the unspoken attention he gets. He never changes for anyone, his personality always remains the same.

Power: Riley can control the earth around her. At first it only started when she had very strong emotions, but with more practice she is able to control the elements that nature brings.
Personality: very bubbly and outgoing, probably one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet, she is very innocent and oblivious. Riley never curses or says anything bad about anyone. She always tries to see the good in everything and believes that people are truly better than they sometimes are. She can be categorized as blonde but she is too sweet for anyone to think of her as stuck up or snobbish. However, she doesn't have a strange sense of toughness about her, she wants to do things herself and is very strong.
History: Riley grew up in a small country town out in western Wyoming. Her parents owned a small farm so Riley grew up as a country girl, always tan, freckled, and constantly outdoors. Her parents were both happily married, Riley being the oldest of five kids, the youngest girl of four brothers. So growing up, Riley knew how to be tough and defend herself. Although Riley loved her family and her town, she knew she was capable of bigger and better things. So when she heard about his opportunity to broaden her talent of art, she was ecstatic. Her parents were sad to see their last child leaving the nest but they were happy for her, and Riley's outgoing personality led her to be excited too.

Personality: Power hungry and talented, Zach is always looking for a way to get stronger. He has an amazing work ethic but his talent and strength tends to get to his head sometimes. He can be arrogant and cocky and when he wants something he'll stop at nothing to get it. He's always ready to prove that he's the best there is and he wont stop until he has you convinced. Some people admire his go-get-em attitude, but others think he is headstrong, which is true.

Ooc:// Out of popular vote, we will be starting when the new groups of powers first meets the quest powers.

Bic:// Kat fiddled with her pencil as she watched the clock ticking away, every movement of the second hand seeming to take an hour. She was meeting with all of her friends after school to talk about the one things none of them had mentioned since it happened: the cave. None of them could deny that something strange was going on, and they couldn't ignore it any longer. Unfortunately, the problem didn't seem to be disappearing on its own. In fact, these odd incidents seemed to be growing more frequent. But even as she thought hard about this, Kat couldn't think anything any of them could actually do about it.

Being so wrapped up in her worries about later that day, Kat didn't notice her name being called over and over again by the teacher standing at the front of the room. Finally, someone next to her cleared their throat loudly in order to gain her attention. Kat snapped out of her thoughts and faced the teacher with wide eyes. All she said was, "The day isn't over yet, Ms. Cooke." Kat nodded slightly, feeling her cheeks redden as the teacher turned back to the lesson. As the students looked away from Kat, most of them either snickering or not caring enough to even make notice of her, Kat felt a familiar tingling on the skin of her scalp. Fear gripped her heart as Kat recognized it as the same sensation that always came when her body suddednly changed color. Kat ducked her head, trying to hide herself behind her hand as she pulled a peice of hair forward in front of her eyes. Sure enough, the strand of hair was bright red. Kat's hearts beat so loudly in her chest, she wondered how no one else could hair it. Trying to regain control of herself, she closed her eyes tightly, willing her hair to return to normal. The feeling of being brushed by a very fluffy feather returned and faded just as quickly. Kat dared to squint open her eyes just a little, and sighed with relief to see a strand of simple blonde hair in her fingers again.

Anya leaned her head against her hand, staring blankly out the window at the back of class. She was concentrating on a small puddle in the middle of the sidewalk, leftover water from the rain that morning. Lately, she noticed that when she grew angry with someone, they always somehow got drench from a watering fountain or a drinking class or, regretably once, a bathroom toilet. Currently, Anya had only managed this power when extremely enraged with anger, and staring at the puddle of rain now, Anya wondered if she would be able to lift the water from the puddle if she tried hard enough. Was she capable of something like that? So far, she had been to frightened to find out. If she failed, there would be disappointed, but if she could? That was even scarier.

Nothing seemed to break Anya's stare until she heard her teacher growing more and more annoyed at somewhere. Frightened that it might be her, Anya turned her attention back to the classroom. She saw Kat in the second row nearly snap her neck as she turned towards the teacher. Anya quickly lost interest in the situation until her eyes caught the sight of red. Lots of red. Now Anya nearly broke her neck in her hurry to look at Kat. Her once blonde hair had turned a bright shade of crimson, but just as quickly as it had changed color, it returned to normal a few moments later. Anya took in a deep breathe, not realizing that she had been holding hers for that moment. She glanced around the room, but none of the "normal" students seemed to have noticed.

Damian crossed him arms over his chest as he leaned against his glossy mustange, which stood out in the school parking lot next to used and worn out cars of high schoolers. His instense gaze never faltered as he stared at the school which contained the only nine people on earth who knew about the cave, other than him and his three comrades, of course. Just the knowledge that more Powers were just a few feet away had Damian's foot tapping in anticipation. If he, Maya, Cameron, and Zachary could convince these others to join them on their quest to find the center of the cave, they would be unstoppable.

He glanced at his watched for only a second before returning to his vigilant stare against the parking lot and, seemingly, into the window of the classroom where all nine powers were currently sitting at their desks. Of course, Damian had no way to actually see inside the classroom at the new Powers, but that didn't stop him from trying. The students only had two more minutes of class time left, but the time was dragging by. Damian hadn't attended school for months, ever since recieving his powers, so he had forgotten how a few minutes could seem like days in a classroom. He finally broke his gaze at the school, but only long enough to turn to the other Powers with them and tell them, "They'll be out soon," in a reassuring voice, as if they were the ones nearly shaking with anticipation instead of him.

Maya smirked at the "reassuring" note in Damian's voice. "You're they only one who's excited," she commented, noticing the tense way he way carrying himself, the way his gaze was fixated on the window. Maya couldn't help but think he looked a bit like a dog that had had food taken away, held tantalizingly over his head. Her smirk widened into a small smile at the thought.

Alex groaned, fingers tapping anxiously on his desk as the seconds slowly ticked by. This was taking forever. Somehow, after what had happened in the cave, everything had been moving much slower. Seconds became minutes, minutes hours, and hours stretched in agonizingly long days. And as if that wasn't enough to deal with, he seemed to constantly need food to keep up with his sudden, unending energy.

He let out a small groan as another second sluggishly ticked by, seeming to mock him as it slowly passed. His finger tapping grew in speed until his hand was nothing more than a blur. Concentrating, Alex forced himself to slow down. Glancing around the room for something to occupy his unfocused mind and short attention span, he quickly noticed what looked like Kat's hair; apart from the fact that it was a bright red. Brown eyes widening, he breathed a subtle sigh of relief as it turned blonde once more, running his fingers though his own messy hair. Whatever had happened in the cave was obviously resulting in some weird side effects.

Terra's weak eyes skimmed through the words of the text book absently, only a few sections really sticking with her. The albino let out a small sigh, giving it up as a lost cause. She just couldn't seem to focus. It was as if she could feel everyone else's boredom on top of her own. A brief flash of surprise cut through the boredom, and Terra glanced up to see Kat's hair a rather bright shade of red. Blinking in confusion, Terra looked again, relieved when it went back to it's usual color.

Terra stared at her hand, ignoring the headache she had forming. Ever since the cave, this kind of stuff had been happening. And Terra had the oddest sensation that that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Danny slept, his face planted in a book. He lifted his head when the teacher snapped at Kat then he attempted to pretend he was awake. He noticed Kat's hair but paid no real attention. He noticed his book: a biology book. It was turned to a page that happened to have a leopard on it. Danny stared at the photo a moment, then picked his hand up and placed it on his desk next to the picture. His skin began to form a spotted pattern and his long fingers sank back, his hand taking the form of a paw. When the teacher began walking back Danny hid his hand and it quickly returned to normal. 'Gah! Why can't you get lost for a few minutes!' Danny thought with annoyance then he grinned mischevoiusly.

He cleared his throat quietly: "Mrs. Patterson, you have a phone call in the office!" Danny made his voice sound as if it where the principle, calling for their teacher over the intercom, he hoped it was convincing enough to make the teacher leave for awhile.

Darkness clouded the edges of his eyes, everything became a blur as Dev recalled the recent experience in the cave. He remembered feeling the darkness surround him, the cold sensation that over took his as he became almost invisible to everyone else. He remembered the feeling of being in total control, then the feeling of utter helplessness that he couldn't shake. If only he knew how to control it. He hated the feeling of not knowing what to do, and not being able to help himself.

Dev snapped out of his trance as soon as he dropped his pencil on the floor, making a clattering noise as it rolled across the room, causing that annoying teacher to glance up at him. He narrowed his icy eyes and vowed that he would get up and leave if she said one word to him. But the teachers attention was elsewhere. Kat. That sucks to be her right now... Dev thought as the teacher ripped her a new one, reminding himself that he was thankful he's not her. His eyebrows knit together when he realized what was really happening with that girl. Her hair just changed. Then a stab jolted through his stomach and propelled through his whole body. He quick glanced down at his arms, folded across his chest as he sat leaning back in his chair. No sign of darkness he thought, that's good. But how come she changed? He glanced around, seeing that no one else really noticed what he just witness. He cleared his through quietly and hoped that the bell would finally ring, he couldn't be here anymore.

Riley bounced her leg up and down as she waited anxiously to get out of class. She stared out the window, at the trees and the grass and the leaves. She swallowed, pursed her lips, and narrowed her eyes, wondering if she could make them move again. Memories of the cave rushed back in her brain as a slight shiver ran down her spine. She didn't know what to think of this memory. Fear, anger, pride, happiness, all of these feelings mixed themselves in her brain, causing her to wince slightly with confusion. She heard her teacher raise her voice and whipped her head around instantly, making sure it wasn't her that she was yelling at. Poor girl... she thought as the teacher glared at Kat. However, Riley was too wrapped up in her own thoughts to see the sudden change in Kat's hair. She shook her head slightly, trying to clear these confusing thoughts, and looked out the window again, just as a slight breeze shook the leaves off the trees.

Zach shoved his hands in his pockets coolly, and walked over to Damian, joining him in leaning on his mustang. He followed Damians gaze into the window, noticing the nine kids that was their target. "Whats taking so long?" he asked impatiently, glancing at Maya, then Damian, then Cameron. He took the toothpick out of his mouth, and bit the side of his cheek, narrowing his eyes. He rolled his muscular shoulders, trying to make himself look tougher as he threw the toothpick on the ground impatiently.

OOC: Ugh, I feel terrible that it's taken me so long to post. I'm so sorry guys. I promise to be better about it in the future!

Ashton had been paying attention to the teacher, but just barely. His head was lolling against his neck, and he was just now beginning to let his attentions get absorbed throughout the room. Unlike many of his classmates, he preferred to stay awake during school. There was no use in sleeping just to get in trouble. He had enough on his plate to get him detention for months without adding a nap during class to the list. He had been sitting next to Kat, one of his best friends, and noticed the sudden change of atmosphere as she panicked when her hair changed color. He only turned in time to see it return to its native color, but he wasn't surprised. Granted, he had been the first time it changed color, but he was - somewhat - used to it by now. He had been having trouble working his computer ever since the incident in the cave, and it looked like he wasn't the only one having problems since that day. He was glad he wasn't alone, but it felt odd that he was being singled out once more among the regular crowd of people.

Jamie had been sitting in the front, and she was absorbed in the teacher's lecture. She needed to get good grades after all; her parents were counting on her! It couldn't hurt to let her mind drift a little bit but... Woah! She seemed to be drifting all on her own. She was floating out of her seat, and she had just noticed in time to make it look like she had merely been half standing. She sat back down quickly, reminding herself that although she had recently been gaining more control over this whole flying thing, she needed to be more diligent in allowing herself to daydream. It seemed that whenever she did, things kinda got a bit 'floaty'. Whatever was going on in the back with Kat and the others, she didn't bother turning to see. She didn't hear any noise, and she didn't want to get involved in whatever Mrs. Patterson was deciding to do at the moment. A little break from teaching wouldn't hurt anyone, would it?

Cameron sniggered under his breath, "Oh don't be so sure, Maya. We're all becoming impatient." He paused to allow Zach his turn to speak, but merely shrugged his comment off. "Pfft. Of course it's taking long. It's school, what do you expect? The worst eight hours of the day, if nothing else. We were there once, don't you remember?" He paused again, taking some time to look through the window and see anything exciting. Pretty dull at the moment. "Glad to be gone," he finished.
