I was VERY little when it was on in New Zealand and it hasn't since, so I didn't always see each episode (couldn't tell the time) and didn't always get what they said, so I thought they were father and son for real.

I knew they didn't look alike but I don't with my dad.

I'm sure many did as they were VERY close.

No Baloo was sort of the adopted caretaker of Kit. Kit crashed into Baloo in the pilot Plunder movie and lighning.

I KNOW now, but as a slightly clueless kid I did.

I'm sure a lot of kids made that mistake, it's not the first time I hear it.
I can't say anything because I only discovered TaleSpin recently, so I did not get confused.
It's part of the million things that makes kids don't understand TaleSpin. It's a shame because this relationship is a key element of the series : they're not blood related, yet they are even more close than the average father and son.

In some ways the father/son is greater in this form then by blood. I'd know my dad's a dope and others have filled the role in some ways.

Truthfully when I first saw the show as a kid I thought Baloo was Becky's henpecked husband.

That's kind of the wonderful thing about the show's chemistry. It feels so authentic it's like they are actually a real family.
