The Middle of Nowhere [Semi-Advanced]

+The Middle of Nowhere+

Plot: In the city, there’s no where to run. Two brothers and their father are living the good life. Although their mother is nowhere to be found, the two boys find refuge in their dogs. They have many dogs, all of which they are incredibly loyal to and would give their lives for. Their father feels the same... until one year he is diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. The two teenage boys have never seen their father act so strangely, and they don’t know what to do until their father began to take out his sorrows on the dogs.

This is where it has gone too far. The boys are angry at their father, no matter what his disability may warrant. So when they confront him and he turns on them too, they take the dogs and run for it. They manage to get on a flight out of the city and into the country side, but how long will they last in the middle of nowhere? Cold, almost alone, and with barely any food left, they’ll be forced to depend on their beloved dogs. It’s either that or die.

Setting: Sacramento, California
This is where the city scenes will take place. As the role-play progresses, they will begin to move towards the East, where the land is less populated and a lot more rural.

+ I’d prefer if this RP was somewhat semi-advanced. Absolutely no one liners, not even if you have writer’s block.
+ Writer’s block may not be a continuous excuse. Two lines or more isn’t hard. If you do have writer’s block, please let me know, but again, it may not be used post after post.
+ When filling out the biographies, I’d prefer if you put detail into the personality. The history is not needed, but you may fill it out however you like if you want to put it.
+ Please don’t let this die guys. This is my first good idea for an open roleplay in a looong time, so I’d be really grateful if we could keep this going.

Personality: Jeremy usually doesn’t talk to strangers unless he feels the matter is important. He’s influenced easily by those he trusts the most and takes a real hard hit when his father is diagnosed. He knows the difference between right and wrong but often finds himself lost, unable to choose which is a better option. He’ll defend his family with his life, including the dogs, but Jeremy would also rather choose himself and his brother and their dogs rather than a stranger, no matter what their situation. His prime drive is survival. He’s brave enough to get by, but the small things tend to scare him. Jeremy would like to believe that everything is fine, but in the end he always realizes that he’s just kidding himself.
Strong Points: Jeremy is well versed in the art of surviving and does not find it difficult to get by with what’s there. He’s protective of his family but often of no one else. Those he cares about are what matter the most to him, and he would gladly let some stranger take the fall without blinking. He doesn’t ramble to people he’s never seen, so he isn’t seen as much of a blabbermouth. He’s brave enough to get by but just barely.
Weak Points: Jeremy’s weakest point is a lack of sympathy. Jeremy knows the difference between right and wrong but often becomes confused with the two when it comes to making a decision. Although he would take a bullet for his brother, his dogs, or his father, he wouldn’t bother blinking if he saw some stranger dying before his eyes. He’s good at surviving, but not so good at emotional stress. His family has an enormous impact on him, and when his father snaps, it tends to provoke Jeremy’s less evolved side. That is, he’s more prone to making bad decisions simply because of his intuitive impulse to keep going and live.

Personality: Bella hates to stand still but is lazy to a certain extent. She is headstrong and rarely willing to back down on her views, and she would rather dive into a situation without thinking rather than sit there and wait for something to happen. Bella loves to run around and have some fun, but she does get tired shortly after. She is hyper in the sense that she usually needs something to do in order to keep entertained, although she isn’t overly talkative. Good luck forcing her to do something, because she won’t do it unless she feels like it. Bella isn’t much of a flirt because she could care less what others thing of her, but she loves cuddling with humans whom she believes she can trust, specifically Troy and Jeremy. She’s extremely intelligent, although the dumb card is something she loves playing as a joke.
Strong Points: Extremely smart, fast, braver than most, and independent. She’s able to keep herself entertained and rarely ever complains. She isn’t a flirt so she’s not a lovestruck idiot, but she loves cuddling with the humans because they are warm and kind.
Weak Points: Hyper and often not very focused. She’s stubborn and hard-headed, which makes giving her a task near to impossible. She dives into things without thinking 9 times out of 10. She is extremely committed to her owners, Jeremy and Troy, which makes leaving them also something difficult. She is loyal to those she trusts, which is one of her ‘seemingly’ few weaknesses.
History [optional]: Bella was taken from her mother at about 2 months but was the runt of her litter, so two days after she was adopted she was sent to the animal hospital. She had been very sick from mal-nutrition. If it weren’t for the care she received there, she would have died. She has grown a lot since then, and her personality has long since developed.

Name: Troy
Gender: male
Age: 19
Role: older brother
Personality: Troy makes up for his brother's distrust of strangers by being a very open person who can strike up a conversation with anyone he meets. He is a very caring person even if he's only spent an hour with a new aquaintance. He has a very expressive personality and wears his heart on his sleeve for everyone to see. He is also very honet and wouldn't tell a lie to save his life. Although he holds his brother and dogs very close to his heart, his loyalty is very easily split if someone else finds his way into his heart. He wants to please everyone and make everyone happy, so he doesn't do well in tough decisions, which he usually just ends up putting off making again and again until it no longer matters. He doesn't have the best survival instict and just does with whatever seems right at that second.
Strong Points: Troy is a wonderful friend. He will always listen to what others have to say and goes above just being a friendly person. When it comes to those he cares about, which is everyone, he takes care of them and always wants to help. He doesn't always know the right thing to do, but he is excellent and following directions and remembering them for later times. He almost never forgets.
Weak Points: Troy is selfless, which is only destructive to himself. He is recklessly brave and protective, and isn't the most clever person. He can be very passionate about his feelings and be over-taken by his heart's good intentions. He worries too much about others, but doesn't worry at all about his own person. When it comes to his own body, he believes that if you ignore it long enough, it'll eventually go away.

Personality: Jack is the gentle giant of the group. He is a very kind dog who tries very hard to keep up with the young ones. He will gladly accept help from the other dogs, since he realizes that his old age creates his limited activity that could be burden to the rest of the group. Although he tries his very best not to lag behind or slow the group down, Jack knows in his heart that he will leave the group if he seriously harms their chances of survival. Jack is like the big daddy of the group, and the other dogs come to him when they need a peaceful solution to a problem. He gladly plays the peace-keeper, so he prevents and stops a lot of fights between the dogs.
Strong Points: Jack is very wise and smart, but these qualities are fading. Even so, Jack is great when planning how to survive an impossible situation. He also can compromise between the dogs when a domestic problem arises.
Weak Points: Jack is old. Plain and simple. He can have bursts of energy, but his legs fail him after awhile. He tires more easily then the others and is usually found at the back of the pack. His mind is also not as sharp as it once was. His memory is beginning to fail, resulting in him forgetting moments of time that happened years ago. So far, he hasn't suffered from short term memory loss, but it could happen.
History: Jack was one of the first dogs to be adopted by the brothers. Troy was seven years old and Jeremy was only five. They adopted him as a puppy and have grown up with the dog. It is no wonder that Jack feels responsible for keeping the two humans boys, which is one of the only reasons he chose to go with them instead of staying with their father and not risking slowing them down.

Age: 6 months
Role: Dogs (not one of the bother's)
Breed: mix dog - mutt
Personality: Mutt is the average curious pup who wonders into danger without fear. He is smarter than most dogs his age though, since he has spent his entire life without a home and the majority of it alone. He isn't naive in the least bit, but he thinks himself braver than he actually he. Mutt tends to rush into danger and then run away from it twice as fast. He acts very cocky and unafraid and careless, but inside he is a broken little pup who is searching desperately for a family. He is very curious about the owner/dog relationship since he never had it, and asks the dogs a lot of questions. He is showing signs of being a very cunning canine, thinking logically in chaotic situations instead of panicking.
Strong Points: Despite his young age, Mutt is very logical and thinks of the best solution without letting his emotions get the better of him. Because of his hard life, he doens't yet understand loyalty, so sometimes his plans call for sacrifices others are not willing to make.
Weak Points: Mutt thinks he can take care of himself and is very independant, so he often tries to deal with a problem on his own when the others won't listen to him. He is also unemtional, as said above, which can put others in danger because he doesn't feel ties of loyalty to anyone.
History: Mutt's mother birthed her pups in a dumpster, but she raised them the best she could, though she never gave them names. When they were about 2 months old, she wished her litter the best of luck and left them in that dumpster. The siblings helped each other for a while, but they soon separated in two's or three's. All except the largest of them who struck out on his own. As he grew, he heard the humans often calling him either "that cute little mutt" or "that dirty thieving mutt." The pup soon associated this word with himself and has adopted the term as his name.

I wasn't sure if you wanted the two brothers to be the only humans, so you don't have to accept these two characters. I just thought Troy and Jeremy might need some help along the way. If accepted, I will probably wait to use these two until the brothers and their dogs really need some life-saving help.

Name: Haley
Gender: female
Age: 17
Role: Someone Who Helps
Personality: Haley isn't at all trusting of strangers, but her conscience leads all of her desicions which causes her to help people she doesn't know or even like. She has a rather tough personality to get used to, since she seems very kind and sweet in an odd sort of way. She helps with a very sour attitude, but she often smiles. She usually only ever offers something once, and if a person doesn't accept, she will never mention it again. Haley's attitude leads others to think she views herself as superior, but on closer inspection, they would find a girl with very low self-esteem who finds herself ugly, useless, and sinful. She doesn't open her heart or her past up to many people, and tries her best never to be cornered into talking about her feelings.
Strong Points: Haley knows what she's doing most of the time. Even if she isn't confident in what she is doing, she pretends she is. She does things in a "if I you don't let me help you, then I don't care if you die" manner, which is slightly mean and crude but helpful nonetheless.
Weak Points: Haley isn't confident in herself at all, so she doesn't like to help people make decisions. She's okay with making mistakes in her own life, but she doesn't want her input to ruin someone else's life. She also does good just so she won't feel guilty for doing nothing, so she doesn't put much effort into it.
History: Haley had the average, happy life living vicariously through her best friend who seemed to have the perfect life. Haley always urged her friend, Emma, to do better and be the best. When Emma come to her with worries about her boyfriends odd behavior, Haley told it was nothing and that Emma needed to stay with him because he was the most sought after guy in the school. Emma followed this advice, but the situation turned hideously dark soon after. Her boyfriend turned out to be controlling and protective to the point of abuse. Even after this, Haley encouraged Emma that things would get better. Then, he become physically harmful. Emma couldn't get out of the relationship, and she blamed Haley for telling her everything would turn out alright when things were going wrong. After this, Haley never wanted someone else to suffer because she influenced their bad decisions. She secluded herself from the rest of the school at that point, eventually going into homeschooling when she was diagnosed for depression after Emma's suicide. Haley is basically recovered from her traumatic past, but the emotional scars are still there.

Personality: Gwen is a gentle, comforting spirit. She doesn't want others to be sad, but she isn't the best with words, so she simply helps them just be sitting or laying beside them. She doesn't force others to talk about their issues as long as they just let her stay and be ther if you want to. She is opptomistic, and never fails to say "everything will be alright" even in the worst of predictaments. She tends to just agree with others and encourages them to belief in whatever they are currently doing. She never has a bad word to say about anyone, and has a way of making a flaw seem like a blessing.
Strong Points: Gwen is a great companion who will always stand by your side. She has undying loyalty to her friends. She is amazing when it comes to comforting others, since her loving aura just seems to calm them down. She easily brings the anger down in a situation so it can be dealt with.
Weak Points: Gwen wants to protect others from the world, and will just tell them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear. She doesn't believe in tough love or loving someone without always being nice to them. She just agrees with someone, which can lead them even farther in the wrong direction because she would never tell them that they are doing something wrong.
History: Gwen was adopted by Haley's parents when she was about a year old. Haley had just been diagonosed with depression at the time, and Gwen was adopted to help her through therapy. This seemed to do the trick! In the year the two have been together, Haley has come a long way.

Ciara was born in a small town, growing up alone with no siblings. She was raised and was taught to go after whatever she wanted and not to give up on anything. At the age of 12 she started to really get into singing and writing songs. She would practice for hours in front of the mirror non stop on her coryography (dancing) and her vocals. When she was 16 she sent a few recordings of her voice to some music directors and they accepted her a few days after. When she turned 20 she produced her first song, which was a major hit. Ciara went upward from there. Her songs being made onto CDs and more and more people finding out about her singing.

Role:Brothers' Dog
Personality: Fiery and headstrong, she acts mainly on impulse, rarely going by what her head says...if she ever listens. This is somewhat tempered by her loyalty towards those she loves. She would never willingly put them in danger, and that can be the only thing that can cause her to think through a situation. She is curious and often optimistic, though there can be times where she is grumpy and sarcastic, driving others away. These moments don't happen often, and when they do they quickly fade, replaced by her regular cheerful demeanor. Despite her goofy attitude at times, she knows when to take things seriously, and is always there to offer a shoulder to cry on.
Strong Points: Her persistence and stubborness lead to her usually following through and completing the goals she has set for herself, and her loyalty and gentle understanding and empathy make her an excellent friend.
Weak Points: Her impulsive tendencies often lead to her getting into difficult situations, seeing the danger only after it's too late.
History: She was born in a puppy mill, and though she doesn't have any clear memories of the place, she finds herself even now with a dislike of small spaces. After a former employee complained about some things, animal control stepped in. Piper was soon adopted from the shelter by Troy and Jeremy.

Appearance: Her fur is black and curly, with a small white splash on her chest and a white tipped tail. Her brown eyes are warm and sweet, and she has a friendly, energetic look about her.

BIC: Jeremy gritted his teeth when he realized how serious this unfolding situation would be. As he closed the door gently behind his father, who was last to come inside, he head the pattering of paws approaching. Bella came and jumped up on his knees, barking once and sustaining his glance with warm brown eyes. Jeremy managed a half smile, pet Bella lightly, but ignored her otherwise. Bella sat down after he passed her, tilting one ear to the side in confusion. Shrugging it off quickly, though, she trotted back to another room. It was cozy and dark in there, and she huddled in her bed, listening for what could be going on but not bothering to see with her own eyes.

Jeremy crashed on the couch, sighing heavily with the burden of this darkening news. They had only gone to the hospital because their father had taken a bad fall, but now Jeremy and his brother Troy faced an incredible new ordeal. Their father had bi-polar disorder, and it had never been caught before. Somehow, the doctors said, it had remained dormant until his middle-aged years began. After the fall, apparently what the doctors called 'a stressor', it had been activated or something. Whatever it was, Jeremy had paid enough attention in school to know it wasn't good. Some trouble was bound to lay ahead.

History:him and his little sister got loose one day and were roaming the city streets. they were never found by their real owners but were found by two brothers. Which to them was way better. They are much happier living with the brothers and other dogs.

Troy paced his slow and soft steps as he walked towards the only room with a light on at the moment. He shrugged off his coat as he walked, letting it fall to the ground without a second glance at the discarded clothing. His shoulders slumped over as if collapsing from an invisible weight, and his head hung down in a permanent stare at the floor two inches from the front of his feet. The news of his father's disorder had been processing in Troy's mind ever since the diagnosis had been completed. Even though Troy could replay the scene over and over again his head, word-for-word, all he really wanted to do suddenly wake up and realize it was all a horrible nightmare.

When he finally reached the living room, Troy rested his forearms on the back of the couch, not quite ready to sit down. He glanced at his brother, Jeremy, searching his brain for the right thing to say. But what could he say in this situation? He wanted more than anything to comfort Jeremy by saying things would work out or it wasn't as bad as the doctors made it out to be, but Troy knew this things were complete lies. Even now, Troy couldn't bring himself to utter those untruths. Finally, after a deep but not at all soothing sigh, Troy finally muttered barely over a whisper, "So what happens now?" Despite being the older brother, Troy often went to Jeremy for a plan since he often knew what to do when Troy was at a loss.

Jack glanced up from his slumber, sprawled under the kitchen table, when the boys arrived back home. With a heavy grown, the large black dog finally pushed himself to his feet, thinking that his chosen sleeping spot on the hard tile floor had not been his best idea. His muscles cramped up in the joints, but he padded passed Bella, glancing at her briefly before heading for the boys. The air inside the living room was thick with despair, and Jack's heart skipped a beat as he thought perhaps their father had died from the fail. The older man's scent caught Jack's nose, though, and reassured him that at least everyone in the family still lived on.

His paws landed heavily on the carpet, announcing his presence long before he reached the couch. He nudged Troy's knee, recieving a non-enthusiastic but loving scratch behind the ear, but the older boy resumed his staring off at the far wall within moment. Jack trotted as quick as he could around the couch to lay his head down on Jeremy's thigh, staring at him with shiny black eyes as if asking what had happened.
