This isn't related to the movie really at all, but to pets. Sooo...

Moved to Animals.

A movie made you get a specific breed of dog?...

Did you even bother to learn anything about this breed? That's how a lot of dogs wind up in shelters. :| Their owners know next to nothing about the breed and get them for some stupid reason like seeing the breed in a movie, then when they realize it won't fit for their family go "Oh well" and get rid of it.

I think i know. If you become a fan of an animated dog then sooner or later you long to get a dog similar to that so you can have a companion that remind you of him/her.

I never said the OP was going to get rid of the dog. But this line of thinking lands many dogs in shelters left to die. It is irresponsible to say the least to get a dog based on an animated movie. (Like the popularity of dalmatians in link to 101 Dalmatians. The way they are shown in the movie is not how they normally are. But uneducated and irresponsible people went out and bought said breed, not realizing what they were in for.) If you're going to get a specific breed of dog - especially one that was originally bred to do WORK, do your research on the breed. Make sure they are a fit for your family. But do NOT go out and get one just because it was in a movie. Too many people take the "easy way out", and all that does is punish an innocent animal.

(Yes, this is a topic I feel rather strongly on. I work with a rescue and I've seen people use these excuses to get rid of their animals. To not derail anything further, however, you can feel free to PM me with questions/comments to this post).

I was hoping the author would reply and explain more. Such as saying that they were prepared when the adopted the husky.
But since they haven't, and the topic's turned more into a heated discussion, I'm just going to lock it.
