M'yeah...I am not sure I get this thing I am going to rant about. And I will preface this by saying that I KNOW there will be no solution, and that almost none of the people who do what I am about to rant about will even read this, or would understand why I am ranting about it. Buuuuut... The title of this topic gives a clue to what I mean. Anyone who's ever heard the term "parroting" will know what I mean. That is when someone essentially (if not word-for-word, which is what happens here more often than not) repeats something someone else just said, in a post or comment (usually in either an article or question on one of the sources, or in a topic on the forum), simply to throw their two cents in, or out of some scatterbrained notion that their participation is going to add something new and meaningful to the discussion when, in fact, they've done nothing more than regurgitate the same thing someone else already said. It's irritating. It's inane. It's idiotic. These dum-dums reeeeaaaaally need to get a freakin' clue already. No one is going to think they're clever because they threw into a discussion without offering anything new or compelling. I just don't get how they don't see how unintelligent it actually makes them look to repeat the same information someone else already said. "But I didn't see the other responses! God, dude! Gimme a break!" Hey genius - take the moment to actually scan the entire thread. Trust me, you won't grow old doing so. The rest of the internet community can get on quite well while you're distracted for a few freakin' minutes. And hey - that internet thing? It'll still be waiting for you when you get done reading! Wowsers! What a concept! This becomes especially irritating, inane and idiotic whenever someone has parroted something I said. But irritating, inane and idiotic it remains regardless of whom they are repeating. There OUGHT to be better policing of this phenomenon, and an established rule against it. Yeah yeah, I know I know..."spitting into the wind here, JC. Are you kidding with that 'ought to be a rule' thing? Never gonna happen." MAN, this grinds my gears... >=Z

Ugh, this is downright annoying. It doesn't make people look smart when they do this. It doesn't make them even look helpful. Not one bit! Things like this and this (the comments left, not the questions themselves) are just... no. If one person has all ready said it you don't need to say the same bloody thing again. The internet will do just fine without you parroting things. -.- And really, shouldn't that be considered spam when kids do that? ><

I agree, that is annoying, and like the links Tibb posted, I noticed that myself. I sat there thinking to myself "Didn't I just answer this question?"

The only thing I can advise if to be patient with them. Answer their questions (as silly as you may think they are) if you wish. Advise them how to post or ask questions better. (I know you are good at that, JC, for you've done it before even if they didn't appreciate it.) But this whole thing is why we set rules with emphasis on being more guidelines on how to post. In hopes we get better posters. There's not a lot we can do, both mods and members, but advise and be patient. And to ignore if they get snippy. I've learned that's about all you can do with out started an argument.

See it's not this concept as a whole that ticks me off, it's when a person does something wrong, something not so major or serious. And like FIVE PEOPLE come in and tell them over and over the same thing. Only one person needs to tell them what they did wrong, and that should be that. But NO, sometimes several people feel the need to come in and repeat it several times after the fact.
It just makes it look like the parrots want to feel big and important by getting to tell someone off. Especially when they parrot a polite pointing out of flaws, and say it in a much more harsh or rude way. That irritates me so bad.

Especially when they parrot a polite pointing out of flaws, and say it in a much more harsh or rude way. That irritates me so bad. Perhaps so. And you're right...and that has been an issue on Animation Source and many other forums on the internet. But that's not exactly the same thing, and a bit beyond the scope of this topic really. "Parroting" is actually repeating the same thing someone already said over and over, almost word-for-word if not ACTUALLY so. To wit (it really is just a coincidence that each of these questions were asked by the same person initially...sorry about that. I am not singling out that person anyway, but the people who responded with parroted answers): http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/questions/What_breed_is_Dixie/170342.html...and... http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/questions/Is_the_raven_Balto_s_spirit_guide/170244.htmlAnd, while a little less-so, still this to some degree: http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/questions/Is_it_possible_that_Balto_could_have_sib/170338.html

Oh yeah I see what you mean, that's incredibly redundant to an unnecessary degree! One or two miss-posts I can understand, sometimes people will ninja post before you can...But when it gets THAT bad. Jeeze.

Aye, something like that doesn't annoy me as much. It's when the replies have a few days apart that it's like "REALLY? Just... no. -.-"

I guess I'm going to be that one annoying person who has to disagree while everyone else agrees. Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. I've clicked the links that you all provided, and yes, I noticed that they all pretty much copy off of each other. But what's the big deal if they do? This is a children's site. You can't expect young children to be expert posters. They're here to have fun, and to just express their own opinions about they're favorite animated movies. Even if that means parroting the exact same thing other's have said x3 No one here was an expert poster when they were younger. It's not like they're purposely trolling or spamming. They're little kids, you can't expect them to have intellectual conversations. They're like 10. And you have no chice but to deal with it, since you decided to join a children's site in the first place. So, yup. That's my opinion on this whole thing.

It's really not asking to much for kids to have a little common sense imo. They don't have to be "expert posters" and can have fun without repeating the same thing someone else has said almost exactly. It really should not be too much to tell them to just think about it even a little. And probably 90% of the time when a kid does it on the forums, it's to boost that idiotic post count.

I see it as more of a sock-puppet theatre what with all the comical drama, honestly.

The way I see it, some people, especially children, feel they have to know everything. So when one person answers a question already, they feel they have to answer the question also to make themselves feel smart or knowledgeable But children are able to and should use common sense. They should know that once a question has been answered, it's been answered and they can't really say anything else. It's not like they don't know any better. Sure they're children, but they're mostly pre-teens, and not 6-year-olds. Just my opinion, people. And I respect all of yours.

I believe that, if you check the ages of most of these people, if they even list them, you will find they are often teenagers, not children. And teenagers have no excuse for being that way. Kids can be excused for that, even if it remains annoying. Teenagers? Hardly. And adults (which also sometimes happens)? Not at ALL.
