I have a couple of favorites when it comes to Disney Princesses:
#1(tied) - Tiana: Before my other choice, she was the BEST role model for girls in today's time, despite her film taking place in the 1930s time period. Tiana knows that hard work can lead to one's dreams coming true, not just wishing upon a star and hoping for it to happen soon. She, like many of my favorites, cares deeply about family and it means a lot to her, even more than the typical "Princess" stereotype of finding a prince to marry and such. I think I like her so much not just because she's the first African-American princess in the Disney Animated Canon, but because she's got so much determination to defy the odds despite her race and how things unfortunately are during that time period for African-Americans/blacks. I'm glad Disney pushed the bar with her, and it was risky, but I know I'm not the only one to catch that little hint near the beginning... right?
#1(tied) - Rapunzel: She's just so... likeable and one of those girls that has such a cute, naive charm about her. I mainly like her spunk, her many talents and the way she works a frying pan... not just for cooking, but also for fighting~! She's so optimistic and someone that everyone seems to be drawn to... maybe it's all that hair. Actually...

I like her more with the short brown hair in the end too.
But yeah, the two most recent Princesses are just... more independent and show that a girl doesn't really need to have a guy save her all the time... in fact, both Tiana and Rapunzel save their main male counterpart more than once in their specific films [I think Rapunzel did more saving than Tiana... if I remember correctly.], and for a Disney movie for today's audience, that's saying something. Maybe it's thanks to Fiona from the Shrek franchise...
Honorable Mention (tied) - Belle: Just... Belle. I like her because she was a different type of girl than most other princesses of earlier Disney films. She's a bookworm and personally you could call her the "hot dorky girl" that somehow every guy wants to marry. She's not much of an action girl, but she cares about family and it's important to her.
Honorable Mention (tied) - Mulan: If she were officially a "princess", Mulan would be one of the best examples too. She believes in her family, and she's got the balls to risk her own life to save her father's by taking his place in the army... holy crap, that takes total guts! Plus, she's smart, strategic and not just a pretty face. And she's... I think... the only one in the "Disney Princess" line to have a last name. She is Fa Mulan, after all.
I also like
Jasmine too, so she's another
Honorable Mention. She's a girl that knows she's more than just a girl born with the title of "Princess" or a prize for a prince. She's sassy and likeable, as well as rebellious. I like how she's willing to speak her mind and wants to marry for love, not because she has to follow some stupid law that makes no sense.
Too bad "real canon Disney Princesses" like Elionwy and Kida aren't in the Princess line... They were cool, though Kida was the better of the two. Anyone who even knows or understands who I'm talking about, I love you forever.
