[Off Topic]

Hello everyone. Some of you guys may know "Lights Camera Jackson" (Jackson Murpy) - the internet sensational 13 year old movie critic. He has appeared in the TV Show that comes on in the morning called the "Mornin Show" numerous times. His latest appearance he made a statement about Lion King 3D.

[On Topic]
Here's his statement: "As for the "The Lion King" as a film, I didn't remember much from the previous time I had seen it five or six years ago. I know I didn't love it back then and now seeing it again I understand why. The blending of serious themes of murder, death and revenge and the goofy parts with Timon, Pumba and the hyenas just doesn't work. It's stunning to me that so many people consider this film a classic."

A C- ? come on...

It's people like "Lights Camera Jackson" (Jackson Murpy) who don't know a real good movie when they see one. Shame really. No matter what he says, The Lion King is the best animated movie out there.

I'm not even going to waste my time watching his review because I'll just end up getting very pissed about it! (Plus I always hate reading bad reviews about a movie I like.)

If that annoying kid thinks The Lion King sucks, then he seriously has a bad taste in movies! The Lion King is one of the most popular animated films for a reason, because it's so dang awesome! Yes it may seem strange to combine scenes of death and anger with goofy, care-free scenes; but the producers do that for a reason; to shock, awe, and surprise the viewers and to give them a good laugh and cheer them up! That's one of the things that gives The Lion King a wider audience range (something that most animated movies don't do.)

This kid seriously needs to re-watch this movie so he can get a better understanding of it!

I couldn't agree more. I only read the title before I started to grit my teeth. I really don't want to make it worse.
But why is there a 13 year old "movie critic" anyway? I mean seriously? This is the first person I have heard of who doesn't like lion king, its honestly a shocker I never thought it was possible. I guess he's gonna be in the book of world records or something. I don't even know what to say right now.
I'm really starting to work meyself up, I think I'm gonna lie down :bom:

I can't say Jackson here is baseless.

Hang on, hang on - bear with me. Understand that I may be high on the perfection I perceived to be Rise if the Guardians.

But, though I didn't watch the video, I have to say he's onto something. Having Timon(who's grating on his own), Pumbaa, and the hyenas is somewhat overkill for comic relief. I mean, really - I'm not saying there should be NO COMIC RELIEF EVER IT RUINED TGE MOVIE AHFIBI, I'm just saying all five of those characters are too much. To see Simba, who lost his Father less than - what, a week ago? To see him suddenly go from ready to commit suicide("You could have died out there." "(sarcasm) Thanks for your help. (Simba turns to walk right back into the wasteland pumbaa referred to.)" ) to jumping around and singing about not having worried in five minutes flat - without a timelapse at all, literally forgetting he killed his father(in his mind) in three or less minutes- is particularly jarring now. I know that there was a plot reason, but surely they could have left the tone of darkness and evil set and leave the comical moments to the still-threatening hyenas, leaving some other animal to find Simba? Frankly, the time spent in the jungle is what I consider, personally, to be the worst part of the movie. I hate Timon, Pumbaa can get on my nerves, Simba has rapid mood swings, and to top it off... The music there is my least favorite. Trying to fit that annoying duo into an otherwise dark movie, no matter how well-placed, feels awkward.

Just my two-cents. Maybe the kid's onto something, I dunno.

(Remember, I'm probably still high from RotG while I wrote this, a movie I consider perfect in every respect.)

I re-watched the movie a while ago, and I thought this odd too after seeing it in its entirety for the first time in years... I mean, even if your father died and you didn't think it was your fault, you'd be sad for years. I get that Disney had to move the plot along and all, but... it just wasn't realistic...

The movie may not be the best out there (I certainly know better ones), but it'll always be a classic I suppose, and it's pretty good in and of itself if you discount some things.

Also, guys... to those of you threatening the reviewer, each person has their own opinion. It would do well to respect them.

In other words, for a movie like The Lion King there is more to it than meets the eye. It's hard to get into any of the characters' heads because of the movie's time, which is limited, to what, 72 minutes? You can tell a story and be intrigued by the characters, get inside their heads in that amount of time? Yeah, right. It just doesn't happen.

As far as Disney and animation goes, it's one of the best out there. It has it's good points and it's bad. I'm not saying that it doesn't.

Anyone who reviews it and says that it stinks for one reason another was only nit-picking, and did not understand the message. And let's face it, The Lion King has plenty of those. True, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if a movie like this doesn't impact someone, then they have a problem deep down on the inside. Peoples hearts do work differently. Not everyone will react the same way. Unfortunately, that is the world we live in.

I was seven years old, in 1994, when this movie came out, and it had an incredible and profound impact on me, one that never left even when I stopped watching it for several years. Then, I watched it again, the impact was still there.

This movie, opened up my ability to be a writer, so, in a way, I owe The Lion King for giving me what some believe to be my talent. It'll always be a special movie for me.

And it makes me wonder how it would've turned out if the movie had been turned into one of the older Scripts, which I find really cool, and almost realistic.

Good point there.
I didn't watch the video either, but here's my take: Simba was young, and he'd just been through a lot. So the whole experience with Timon and Pumbaa was something new to him. So that alone helped to take his mind off Mufasa's death. (Remember, little kids generally have short attention spans--doesn't take much to distract them.) He was still too young to understand what had happened and young enough to have his views on life changed pretty easily. So to him, he was starting over (isn't that one of the themes of the movie: don't hold onto the past?) and moving on to something better.

True, nobody does have the same functioning of the heart and movies effect people in different ways. But, regardless, that has no difference to the fact that The Lion King IS most definitely one of the best animated movies out there. If it wasn't, they wouldn't have made a 3D version of it. Whoever this Jackson Murpy kid is needs to watch good movies, but I don't see how that makes a difference because from what you're saying he just sounds like somebody who hates everything, probably doesn't have a single good review on a movie, and if he does probably only because he watches the crappy ones.

I'll love The Lion King forever, it's a classic movie regardless of what anybody says or "reviews". That won't change my opinion of it, and shouldn't change anyone elses.

Hey, I just saw the video, and the kid wasn't reviewing the movie itself, per se. He was rating the 3D of it.
I agree, it's the same exact film, just in 3D, it's not that great. (Not enough to spend all the money that a 3D ticket cost).

As for the whole "comic relief" thing with Timon and Pumbaa, I think it goes well with the story line. He IS a kid, like someone stated before, it fits well with the character and how kids don't really stick to something. He's a kid, and yes, it was new and exciting for him -- and it helped get his mind off things.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion. :)

Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

It's just his opinion, I guess. I don't agree with it; however, he does have a point somewhere..
But I'm sure that he just doesn't like these types of films/movies. And he clearly wasn't made for understanding them. o.o
