I hope this is the right section for this post. :P If it's not, mods, just do with this post whatever needs to be done.
Ok, SO. Ranting time. I've seen many people say several time "OMYGOSH I lyke can't draw [insert something other than wolf here]!" when several of them have probably never even TRIED, or maybe only tried once or twice.
This, of course, results in people turning just about every character they try to draw into a wolf or dog. Which is just fine, I mean, I've drawn human cartoon characters as dogs just for fun several times. BUT, sometimes it's good to see them as their ACTUAL SPECIES.
Example, my fursona is a cat, but often the people from BaltoSource who draw her draw her as a wolf or dog (don't take this the wrong way, you two, I love ya both as well as the art you made for me, but this is just for future reference.) The excuse they both used was "I can't draw cats".
Ok, I'll be quite honest here, and I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but I DON'T CARE if you "can't draw them"! Again, I did like both the pictures, but I would much, much rather see the character as a poorly-drawn cat than as a well-drawn wolf. Why? Because that supports her character design!
I see a ton of people do the same thing about humans, too. I used to be one of them, and I admit, humans ARE hard to draw. But you know what? I started actually trying to draw them well, and guess what? Over time, I got better!
Again, I don't mind seeing people change species every now and again just for fun, but for those of you who are relying on a wolf/dog form, PLEASE--branch out a bit! TRY drawing them in their original form! The species may be hard to draw at first, and for a while those pictures may not look great, but I PROMISE you, over time, they WILL get better! You may surprise yourself with what you can do with a little effort put in! But if you don't give it a chance, your skills won't change, and just claiming that you simply can't draw them won't be of much use, either.
A good artist can draw more than just canines.
Thank you for reading, and please try to take this into consideration. I apologize if for whatever reason I offended anyone in this rant.

This rant is just epic < 3
People should stop complaining about what they can't draw and should actually be practicing, complaining will get them absolutely no where.
A long time ago I realised I wasn't very good at drawing humans or lions, so I worked on it, and now can draw them both easily without a reference :3

Thank you for reading, and please try to take this into consideration. I apologize if for whatever reason I offended anyone in this rant. -Nattikat8 Geez... I feel like this rant was directed at me... I honestly try and draw these types of characters, but I'm a major perfectionist and until I get something to the point where I'm slightly happy with it, I don't put it up or bother to show it to other people. I've actually been practicing cats and humans a lot, and some other animals too, and if you don't believe me look at my dA or BS gallery. I say I'm bad at cats and people and stuff because it's the truth. I've been practicing canines for a while, since fourth grade. And that's been almost six or seven years in the making. Just starting out with other things takes time. And I find it a bit annoying that others where art comes naturally to them would say stuff like this. Because there are plenty of famous artists who can only draw people. They're bad at other things. So sorry but I find that a bit prejudiced. Just because you and some other people can draw a lot of other stuff doesn't mean that other people find it that easy. Art doesn't come naturally to everyone, and I know that in my case, it's not my best skill. I'm better at it than other things, but it takes a lot of time and practice to get to a certain place. Although I can see where you're coming from, since there are people who don't bother trying at all, I feel it's largely unfair to target everyone who says things like that. Because in truth you don't know whether they've practiced it or not, unless they directly say so.

It's not that people aren't trying with the character, its just they haven't had enough practice on the subject. Don't just scold people for not getting your character's form down because they at least did something. It's not that people don't wanna learn, its just they are not comfortable with the subject in question, so they just feel better to draw it then other species. As for Humans, yes, they are difficult to draw, so don't scold that no one does anything original like you, let people do their own thing, let them get comfortable with the subject at hand on their own and just be happy that someone had the kindness to give you a canid version of your fursona, think of it as an alternate you. Don't go into a rant about how people can't draw other stuff, when drawing isn't as easy as it looks. Learn to sacrifice strict design over creativity and think outside the box. Isn't that the point of an artist?

I imagine to the people who drew you those pictures this comes off as unappreciative...You can say you liked them as many times as you want but you are basically calling them out. Those people are going to know you're talking about them. This is rude. I get where you're coming from but it was really uncalled for to mention the people who drew you this art in question.
You may not have said names...But it's not hard for them to guess that you're referring to them.

Oh nononononono, I didn't mean it like that! DDDD8 Sorry for overuse of D8's there, but seriously. Don't take it personally...aw, moof, I didn't meant to hurt you all's feelings! I wasn't complaining at the two of you specifically, I just....ahhhh.
Mods, please just delete this topic. I think it created more hurt than it solved problems. (Though I suppose I must ask myself, did I expect it to solve much? Oh, blah.)
I'm sorry. My bad. ):
