Just wondered what other people would think if all dogs suddenly went animated and could talk like Balto :D

I don't know, Mighty...in this case, I think it's acceptable.

Frankly, I don't know how I would react. I think the three Balto cartoon movies, as with other movies where animals are anthropomorphized, still imply that, even though the animals can communicate with each other in what appears to be English (or whatever language you happen to be watching the movie in), they still cannot be understood by humans. So one might infer that, were animals suddenly able to do this in the real world, humans would still have the same disadvantage of not being part of that communicative "club", as it were.

Certainly the humans in the Balto movies cannot understand or communicate with the dogs, wolves, geese, bears, etc. Even if those animals can understand humans and their languages. This would pretty much eliminate one of the major advantages humans have as a species - complex verbal communication (something evident in very few other species on the planet - the dolphins, porpoises and whales, many kinds of birds, the monkeys and apes...). Our species' intelligence is our greatest natural advantage...if other animals suddenly had a leg up on us (especially if we could not communicate with or understand them, or were even aware that they could communicate together in complex language and understand OUR languages), we'd be pretty much one step away from a quick ride to extinction, I think.

I never said that. I think it'd be a natural occurrence. The only real advantage humans have over other animals is our adaptive, creative intelligence, manifested very profoundly in our ability to engage in complex verbal communication.

Well I did post a more serious counterpoint earlier in the topic. There is a rather interesting discussion going on if you look through.

I'll give that a look sometime after going through and posting in some of the previous threads.
