...to the Majesty of the first one? It is after all the highest-grossing direct-to-video of film ever created and the sequel to the very famous "Lion King". The stars of the first film return in the second along with some new well known ones...but does that really mean anything?

Personally, I though Simba's Pride was terrible. The animations was choppy and unimpressive, Simba and Nala were WAY off model and basically rip offs of Mufasa and Sarabi, the art was sub-par (Seriously i've seen better fanart of SP), none of the characters were interesting, The movie is EXTREMELY vague in that it leaves GAPING plot holes in the for the most part established TLK franchise.

None of the new or old characters were likeable(aside from Nuka), the story was poorly written. Seriously where does thefilm ever come right out and say WHY the outlanders were exiled?

I'm glad it's not Canon. It doesn't deserve a place up there with TLK or any of the other classics.

Your thoughts on the film?

I thought it wasn't as majestic as the first, but I still thought it was a good movie! It's certainly better than most animated sequels!

The only big problem I had with it was I thought it was sort of a combination of "Romeo and Juliet" and a "teenage drama" which made it feel more romantic than it really had to be.

I didn't see any problems with the animation (pretty much looked the same as the first movie) but some of the characters were a little annoying in my book, primarily Kiara (she whines and complains WAY too much!).

As for Simba's character, he definitely wasn't the same character from the first movie, but he does explain his change in the beginning of the movie, which is pretty understandable.

Overall I gave this movie an 8/10. It's good, but could use a little improvement.

Not at all. I hated the second movie.

Loved it when I was a kid. I was about... 11 at the time and I was a huge fan of the first movie. I watched both of them over and over, not caring about certain details.

But now that I'm older and have examined the second film very closely, and writing fanfiction - at first for fun, though it turns out I'm pretty gifted in writing about stuff like that - I've come to the conclusion that Simba's Pride was the worst thought out Disney sequel to one of their greatest movies ever made. Naturally, I would go into details, but some of you have already commented on the things I want to speak of. That's okay.

But I will say this: The story is awful for starters. If you're gonna do a story based on a William Shakespeare play, at least have the courage to see it through all the way to the end. Don't change the play's end to satisfy the audiences, even if the audiences are children. I mean, hello! In the first movie, Mufasa is killed by his own brother and is sent falling into a stampeding herd of wildebeest. And later Scar is killed the hyenas. It doesn't get much darker than that.

Then again, Snow White - Disney's first animated film - in it's own special way was dark. And so was Bambi in many places, primarily in the end when Man returns and burns the forest.

The animation in Simba's Pride was horrible, and so were the characters, both old and new.

My only faves - now - are Zira, Nuka and Vitani. That's it. When I was a kid it was Kovu and Kiara, but looking on their characters now, they were horrible.

Was Simba's Pride a true classic? Did it live up to the wonderful greatness that was and is The Lion King? In my opinion, absolutely not. It is not a classic by any means and should not be considered canon.

If anything the writers and producers and whatnot staff of it should be ashamed of themselves. They made so many changes to it in post-production that it's almost sickening. My gosh, if you have a plan and you like it, stick with it, don't change it. The film has so many plot holes it's laughable in itself. But *shrugs* I guess if it didn't fanfics for the missing plot holes wouldn't be around, but that's neither here nor there.

I can say it now - I couldn't as a kid, but I will now - Simba's Pride should never have been made the way that it was.

I just have to comment here...

The first lion king movie was based on Shakespeare's play "Hamlet" so it doesn't surprise me why they based the second one off of his play "Romeo and Juliet"

Both of the lion king movies had happy endings, unlike both plays they were based off of. Disney HATES tragedies. They always want there movie with a happy ending.

That's what they did was change Shakespeare's original plays turning them into happy-ending and changing the characters from humans to animals, appealing more to kids.

Both of these movies aren't that original, but maybe what the writers wanted was to show kids Shakespeare's writing in their own way? Or maybe they were just inspired by "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet". I dunno.

Getting a bit off topic there... we all know that the first was based off Hamlet and the second on Romeo and Juliet. The topic's about whether you thought the second was good enough to match the first.

I completely agree. Except for the kid part. For some reason... I never liked it. Probably cause of Kiara and Kovu. x3

Actually, I don't really care that much for Simba's Pride and I also don't think it lived up to it's prequel. Especially when you compare the music: from the very first song of the original one you get chills and the feeling of majesty. Unlike the second one: there were too many songs, and none of them were all that good (well, maybe except One of Us. I liked that one).

Models were really messed up for Simba and Nala. Animation, compared to the first one, was just blah. And the new charries...Well, I actually liked Kiara, but others...Dx I especially despised Kovu: he just seemed too perfect.

And also, the thing about "Outlanders": how did they even thought of those? How would Scar get followers? I only remember his followers being the hyenas, and no other lions with nose like his. Okay, maybe he DID mated with Zira, but it still makes no sense. Did his different looking nose gave an excuse to make up a whole new pride that worships Scar like a God? (I won't be going into religion, don't worry; I just used the word for an example) That's something to think about.

There were many more things that bothered me, but I'm not going into details right now. So yeah, I don't think SP lived up to the original. I consider the third one to be much more worth to be called TLK's sequel than SP.

Wow looking at all the comments here so far, I feel so out-of-place xD Personally I really liked Simba's Pride. It's not up to par with the original movie, but I thought, for a Disney sequel nonetheless, it was very good. The animation was... meh. Though it helped to bring out the darker atmosphere, I prefer the original's more smooth animation. But we have to remember that TLK came out in 1994 whereas Simba's Pride came out in 1998. Methods of making movies can change over a period of time, and even though it was only four years, it's still a long time and Disney maybe wanted to try a different style of animating with Simba's Pride.

Plot-wise, Simba's Pride doesn't match up with the original's simply because it's the same old story. We've all heard about the Romeo-and-Juliet story, but what about Hamlet? I could tell you right here and now that I've never heard of Hamlet, at least before watching TLK. So the plot and how it was handled was much more original than Simba's Pride because the plot of 'starcrossed lovers' has been so overdone before.

The characters of Simba's Pride, I did like. Yes even Kiara. I didn't find her whiny at all. She was more-or-less sick of being underneath her father's 'thumb' for so long. Zira was also a very good villain and I wished they could've kept her suicide in there. The same with Nuka and how I've wished they also kept his extended death scene in there.

And for Simba's character... though I thought the overprotective dad aspect was annoying as heck, I do understand why. The events he went through in the first movie would definitely have an emotional impact on him. He was probably afraid of losing Kiara the same way he lost his father.

Is there plotholes? Absolutely. And they should've been handled better, as well as the whole explanation of how Zira and her lionesses were involved with Scar.

So let me answer the question that started this topic: Yes I think it matters or otherwise it wouldn't be such an upheld sequel. Yes many would disagree with me, but you have to admit, like it or hate it, it is a pretty good Disney sequel compared to the garbage they normally produce.

For Simba's Pride I'd give it an 8.5/10. Not a 9 because there is room for improvement and it's not perfect, but it is a very enjoyable movie to watch.

You're not alone in thinking that Dakota ;D Although it was no way as good as the first, it is easily one of the best Disney sequels made.

I can't say I cared much for the story line, but I adore the characters, especially Kovu, Vitani and Nuka.

Just imagine how I felt after I posted my thoughts and everyone else started posting how they hated the movie! I thought I might start getting made fun of!

There's a reason it was direct-to-video, it's just not as good of a movie as the first one. They seriously screwed up the look of the old characters, the plot doesn't work well in relation to the first one. Simba isn't even the same colour.

And "Upendi" totally ruined Rafiki, that was the weirdest, creepiest, most annoying song I've ever had to suffer through. They couldn't even be bothered to pronounce the darned word correctly! It's "oo-pen-dee", not "yoo-pen-dee".

I don't hate the film, but it certainly doesn't live up to TLK.

Haha, LC's comment is something I've basically said on this film in many a topic.
I used to like it as a kid, yes. But when I grew up and rethought it, I can't remember WHY I used to like it...
As if Aleu wasn't bad enough, Disney has to counter act her with Kiara.

Tell me about it, Roi. I just got done watching it with my mother, and, well... it makes us both wonder what Disney was thinking. Heh, they weren't thinking! The first movie is better for a whole number of reasons. If anything, Simba's Pride shouldn't be canon at all.
