In my opinion roleplays shouldn't count as posts. Why? To me a roleplay is a game, and the forums game section doesn't count as posts, so why should the roleplays? Most of these posts are just along the lines of "*Balro runs down the street to talk to Jenna*" To me a post like that really isn't worth a post count. I also can't help but notice a lot of these people tend to have like 5,000 plus posts after being a member for only 2 months for example. It took me well over a year to to get 3,000 some posts. These people may post in other sections once in awhile, but these rapid post gains seem to only happen when a member mainly posts in the roleplays. A post count should only be earned for REAL discussions.

EDIT: Another reason why I believe that the post counts should be disabled is because some people only join to roleplay. If the post counts were disabled, it may encourage them to post in the fan sections.

I agree. Posts should only be ones that are made outside of roleplaying. I've been here for 3 years, and I'm shy of 400 posts. Some people who joined three months ago do nothing but roleplaying, and they're over 5000. That's just not fair.

I totally agree with that. Mightbalto1925 said all, and I think it would be difficult to find more arguments.
For my part, I think a role-playing post should be much longer to be counted in the messages.

Very good idea.

Here here.

To be honest, I would have many forum sections barred from registering post counts. Introduction, Roleplays and Forum games. Perhaps eventually there should be an Advanced RP section which COUNTS their posts (as they are usually of a very decent quantity, and hopefully; quality), while the general role-play areas won't increase post count.

In regards to the Introduction forum, I've noticed that quite a few people will simply go to the Introduction section and post "Welcome", "Welcome to the Pack!", "Hello and Welcome" etc. And these two-three word responses just keep building up post-counts.

The forum games already don't register posts (Last I knew anyway), but I have to agree with the introduction section as well.

It's true that we can include the introduction in this idea.
But thinking about it, I doubt that the platform to manage the forum succeed that an RP post long enough, unlike a post RP of one line, would be counted in the number of messages.

That sounds too complicated, but I think Steet could provide us an answer to that.

I don't agree at all. Roleplays aren't "games" as you say. They're the same as writing a story or a fanfic. And if it counts in General Fanfics then it should count in the Roleplay section. Besides that, all of those who have posted in this topic so far haven't been in any recent roleplays or any at all for all I know. So... no offense, but I don't really think your point is too valid if you've never roleplayed here yourself. Or if nothing else, roleplays take a lot of time and thought to come up with. Or the good ones anyways.

Most RP posts take a long time to conjure up unlike forum games that take only seconds. It's not really fair if it weren't counted. Because it's the same as any other post you'd make. You take time to think before you post, you read every post instead of just the one above, etc. Just my opinion. I think this topic is a bit one sided...

Moki, I can assure you that we all have an opinion which is as valid as the largest RPlayer.
Personally, I do a lot of RP in the French forum, and I can assure you that the resentment of Mightybalto1925 would be quite valuable for both sides of AS (English and French).

Of course I agree with you that a post RP is not a game, and I think we all agree on that. But we must know how things in perspective:

-> A post RP line, for example, "Balto walk along the street and saw Jenna." It deserves to be considered valid ? It is clear that to simply write a line or two, there is no need to think long.

-> While a good RP post more lines... Here it comes into something thinking and research. A RPlayer that strives to post nice RP doing his best, not deserves he to see his post RP counted?

Ah. I wasn't sure so I didn't know how to say that exactly. Thanks for pointing it out. I do believe that a one liner isn't very worthy of a post count as I've seen in some RPs around. But other Rps are advanced or post paragraphs. For example, I know myself, Black Rose, Windancer, Polar, and a lot of others post respectable replies in an RP. Ones that are usually always at least a paragraph or two long. Perhaps there could be a system that tracks how long an RP post is and counts it if it's more then _ characters? I think that'd be the best solution.

That's precisely what we seek to implement.
I agree that those who post respectables RP deserve to have their post RP counted. And it's legitimate. ;)

A lot of forums with RP subforums do not have RP posts count towards post count for the reasons Mighty touched on.

I don't really pay attention to postcount to begin with.

If this is really the case, then why don't we just get rid of post counts altogether? I mean, the only purpose they really serve is to see how much a member contributes, but it isn't really an accurate representation of how often those contributions are. And to see that, all you really have to do is click on the member's name and see the stats. Why not disable the post counts entirely, but keep the fun ranking titles visible below the name?

Seems like a non issue to be honest. I mean, when I joined back in 2006 it took me only a few months to get over 3,000 post but it's stayed there for awhile. It doesn't really affect anything. I mean, it just shows how active you are/were.

To my dying day, I will never, ever understand why so many members (and it seems these are largely the younger end of the spectrum) put so much stock in post counts. I juuuuuuust don't get it. It is of no real value. I see no special significance in one's rank on the forum, and I think it's been established, by anyone with even an ounce of brain matter, that a high post count is baloney when it comes to evaluating someone for a staff position (which I know is the prime motivator for some with this ridiculous post count thing).

I will never get it. Never. It is so incredibly inane and pointless.
