We call it Soda down here in Southern Florida. The only time I've heard people call it Pop is if they're from Europe or somewhere around there.

Oh this is a good one! ROFL I will echo the earlier New Jersey poster's statement that we do indeed, all over NJ, call it "soda". And down in southeastern Virginia, where I am now in the process of moving, it seems they also call it soda. Which is just fine with me. Eh heh. An amusing little story here (it's a bit wordy, but worth the time to read it): When I went to college back in the early 90s (to a university in western Pennsylvania), I noted a substantially-different regional accent, dialect and colloquial lingo was in use by the locals, as opposed to the one I was accustomed to living in southern New Jersey - just a short drive from the Delaware River and the city of Philadelphia. This western-PA stuff, I soon learned, was part of the extended "Ohio Valley" dialect, which encompassed northeastern Ohio, western (and especially southwestern) Pennsylvania, and northern West Virginia. It was the source of substantial amusement (and initial confusion) for tourists and incoming college students from other parts of the U.S. While I will not delve into the amusing details now, I will tackle the question of "pop" versus soda in relation to it because, in the Ohio Valley, they most definitely use "pop". Now, while attending this western PA university, I made many friends from all over the country (and some from others as well), and some from that immediate area. One fellow was a real hardcore "Pittsburgh rules" kind of dude, who took rather disturbing pride in his dialect, accent, and home (he was known to boast that the city of Pittsburgh was the only one in the U.S. which had the legal right to have an "h" on the end of the "burg". ). So one weekend, I traveled the train out east to pay a visit to my home in NJ, and my über-boastful friend, "Mr. Pittsburgh (with an 'h', lol)", came along. Now, employees on this Amtrak line came from all over the Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Maryland/Delaware region, and thus had a variety of accents, dialects, backgrounds, etc. So during the ride, we decided to pop into the dining car to grab a drink and snack, and went up to the counter, where a young lady was tending. I let my friend go first. He proudly stepped up and ordered a "pop". The young lady looked at him for a second, a confused and slightly amused expression on her face, and she wryly replied (and gestured playfully with her fists) "you want a right or a left?" It's saying a heck of a lot about people like my friend that it took a few minutes before he got the joke. ROFL

I use them interchangably, so I regretfully cannot vote. XD

We Californians call it soda! I always used to think "pop" was the "old school" name for it, so when I saw I learned on the History Channel that many areas of the US still call it pop I said to myself "since when is it still called pop?" Very amusing topic!
