~Plot~

The Wide Valley used to be the home to a single, great dragon clan. For centuries, the prey was plentiful and the clan lived at piece without a single enemy. But unexpectedly, the leader of the great clan disappeared. Without a leader to keep order, war broke out inside the clan. It split into two, each separate clan claiming a part of the Wide Valley for its own. Hundreds of dragons were sent to war by the new leaders and many of them had died. The two clans have been at war for seven years and it is becoming worse and worse for both of them. The North Clan is starving from a shortage of food in the mountains and the South Clan is suffering a severe drought. Hundred of warriors are fighting in the war and many of them are dieing, causing families to split apart and leaving the clans in ruins.

Then, a few yearlings from each clan are visited by a spirit of a dragon, killed in the war, who tells them that they need to embark on a quest to find the leader who had disappeared so many years ago. The chosen dragons have never been outside the Wide Valley and have no idea of the dangers and obstacles that lie in their path. Will they find their beloved leader or be killed by the evil in the unknown?




~Setting~

The Wide Valley is not really a valley, but a large piece of land that is surrounded by high cliffs - closing it off from the rest of the world. In the North, mountains touch the sky. From the West to the North, a barren wasteland serves as the battlefield between the clans. In the South is the forest of giant redwood trees.

Personality: Andromeda has a very interesting personality. With strangers, she never talks and mostly spends time trying to figure out everything about the newcomer. Around her friends and acquaintances, Andie has a playfully sarcastic tone in her voice but she is very kind. To foes, she will lash out periodically and try to insult them into leaving her alone and if they don't, her anger will get the best of her.
History: Andromeda was raised by her grandmother in the Northern clan. Both of her parents were killed in the war between clans and she can barely remember what they looked like - having last seen them when she was only three months old. While she was raised by her grandmother, who treated her as though she was her own daughter, Andie never really felt as though she had a family. When Andie became a yearling, her grandmother took her to meet her older sister - who was a watcher in the mountains. Andie took every opportunity to see her sister and told her everything. Even the story about the spirit that comes to see her.

Personality: Essence's personality really fits his appearance. He typically has this angry look in his eye that is somehow observant at the same time. He is slow at making friends, which he thinks more of like allies then friends, and is quick at making enemies. Most fear him because of the aura he gives off and it makes it hard for him to trust others.
History: Essence was born and raised a member of the Southern clan. His father has been the Warcheif of the Southern Dragon Clan for five years and had high expectations for his son. When Sen became of age, he was sent into training and sent to war to fight beside his father. His fighting skills were poor and his father sent him back to the clan with great disappointment. Although he had been shunned by his father, Essence lied to the clan and told them that the great Warcheif had sent him back home to protect the clan's borders and serve as their leader in his absence.

Name: Boulder
Nickname: Boulder
Age: One year and five months
Gender: Male
Clan: North
Personality: Boulder isn't the shy, quiet type but he isn't the outgoing type either. He usually is quiet because he does not know what to say and when he does talk, he usually says something really good. He is not the kind of dragon who lets their anger get the best of them, like most other dragons.
History: Boulder was first born with the name "Bounder" but it was soon changed a few months later in his life. His parents have spent their time in the war and spent almost five years fighting but returned home due to their elderly age. While Boulder's mother was pregnant with him, she was bitten in the stomach which caused him to be born without wings. Being born flightless, he was made fun of a lot when he was young but he never got angry due to his disability. Boulder later discovered that there are other flightless dragons in his clan who have found another way to get around that is just as easy and fast as flying. He has learned to run at very high speeds and can run as fast as most dragons can fly. The muscles that have developed in his leg have made him a great fighter and gave him his name "Boulder".

Age: Seven months old

Clan: Mountain Lions
Personality: Tau is what would be described as Cocky, Intelligent, and Mischievous. He always has some comeback or another ready, and usually comes off as a back-talker. Although he has a cocky aura, he is very smart and this advantage has gotten him out of trouble countless times. He is also a pretty mischievous mountain lion, always wondering off and ready to get in trouble - though that might not always be his intention.
History: Tau was born to the Mountain Lion pride in the northern mountains of the Wide Valley, close the the Northern Dragon Clan. His mother was a healer in the pride and his father was a loner who has not been seen since the day Tau was born. Tau began his training when he was five months old, the training he needed for the Rite of Passage - an event that takes place when a cub becomes a yearling and has to prove their strength in order to become a member of the pride. Tau, who had strayed away from training one night, was taken by a party of rogue mountain lions who were plotting against the pride but their plans failed when Boulder, Anarai, and Andie rescued him and took him back to the dragon clan.

Personality: She has an interesting personality that can take a while to get used to. She has odd moments where she opens up and becomes talkative, though she spends most of her time simply listening. She is curious, but she is hesitant in ever actually doing things. She hates not having people to be around, even though she rarely interacts with them. She also hates having to ask for help, prefering to do things on her own. Though she rarely expresses big displays of emotion, she can let loose outbursts sometimes, mainly when stressed. She has a barbed tongue and heavy sarcasm that she won't hesitate to use if she feels it is necessary.
History: Her mother died immediatly after Nadiana was born, leaving her with a father who was completely incompetent when it came to caring for children. Driven by grief as well, he basically ignored Nadia, leaving her to grow closed in and quiet, but silently craving some form of attention, which is how she has lived for a year. Only a few months ago did her father die, and Nadia was left in the care of her aunt, who was a mother of three already. Nadia, so used to being left alone, still remained closed in, though the desperate want for attention still remains, hence the fact she never wants to be alone.

Personality: She has a normally cheerful, optimistic outlook. She does have a fiery temper, however, and gets provoked rather easily. Prone to moodswings, she is often called unpredictable and a bit of a drama queen. Those who know her see that she is gentle and kind towards others for the most part, and hates to be in the spotlight. She hates the thought of fighting, being a pacifist.
History: Her father died in the war, which is one reason why she is so againt fighting others.

Appearance: She has silvery scales that gleam in the sunlight, and bright green eyes. She is a bit taller than average, but is skinnier than average, giving her an almost scrawny appearance.

Andromeda blinked open her eyes, the bright light of the morning lighting up her den. She lifted her head up off of her feet and yawned, showing all one hundred and thirty-two teeth. Standing up ans stretching out her back and claws, Andie looked outside her den at the sun, which was almost at the height of the sky. "Oh no! I'm late!" She said, backing up against the back wall of her den. Her den, like all the others in the North clan, was a cleft in the side of a mountain that was just big enough for her to sleep. Pushing against the wall, she jumped out of the den and spread out her wings. Gliding to the ground, she landed in the dirt, spraying dust and sand at the dragons around her.

"Hey! Watch out!" The rusty voice of her grandmother came from behind her. Turning around, Andie spotted her grandmother sitting on the ground, surrounded by young dragons. She had clearly started class without her granddaughter. Walking over to her, Andie sat down next to her grandmother and smiled guiltily. "Sorry I'm late..."

Boulder had been awake since dawn and was already helping the older dragons plan the hunting parties and scouting parties. Every day, two hunting parties consisting of four dragons each were sent out to get food and one scouting party was sent out to get news of the events on the battlefield. "Sheer, Rin, Lin..." One of the older dragons was calling out the names of those chosen to go hunting. Boulder waited patiently as they called out the last name and the eight of them jumped into the air, spreading their wings and flying deep into the mountains.

"Who will be on the scouting party?" Jude, another elderly dragon that stood close to Boulder, called out. "I will!" Boulder responded almost at once and looked around for a companion. Usually only two dragons went scouting, and most of the dragons in the clan where terrified of going to the barren wasteland that served as a battlefield.

Essence stood in the middle of the clearing, surrounded by the towering redwood trees. Crouching low, and opening his mouth to scent the air, he stood as still as one of the trees around him. Suddenly, a plank of tree bark sprung up from behind a clump of grass and Essence whipped around, spitting fire in its direction. The fire came out as more of a spark and vanished almost as soon as it appeared. Clearing his throat, Essence tried again and more sparks came out of his mouth and hit the bark, bringing it to flames. Smirking, Essence pulled the bark out of the grass and blew the fire out before throwing it on the ground and jumping into the air. He flapped his wings and flew through the trees, heading back home.

Finding the large clearing where his clan made their home, he landed on a low hanging branch from one of the trees and gazed down at the dragons below.

Anarai responded immediatly. "I'll go too," she offered. She would've been asked to do something eventually anyway, and she preferred a scouting party to clearing out the rocks that had fallen in inconvenient places during that last big storm.

Besides, she found Boulder pleasant to be around. He wasn't as high-strung as some other dragons, and he listened a lot when she talked. When he responded, however, it was thoughtful. He was a perfect dragon to be with when someone as talkative as Anarai was involved.

And despite being a pacifist, the battlefield wasn't actually that bad for her. It allowed her to face her fear, and as long as she wasn't the one fighting, Anarai was fine. So she would go.

"Nadia, play with us!" The pleading cries of both Toruk and Luci only served to make Nadiana shy away. While the young dragons could be pleasant to be around, this wasn't the case today. Still suffering from a lingering nightmare, all Nadiana wanted was to be alone. "No," she murmured, "Not today."

With that she spread her wings, their large expanse lifting her into the air with only a little bit of trouble. She flew into her favorite haunt, which was an ancient redwood. Its large branches cradled her small frame easily, and it held and excellent view of the other dragons, while allowing her to stay somewhat away from them.

Nadiana had an extremely confusing personality when it came to being around others. She craved their attention secretly, but when actually faced with it, she shied away. She had become so used to being closed in while in the care of her now deceased father that she didn't know how to cope with attention. However, the fact that she had been so neglected in terms of love and affection meant she was always wanting some. As said before, it was an extremely confusing matter.

"Punctual, Andie. Punctual!" Andromeda's grandmother glared at her for a moment and turned away to look at the children. "But Mi-Mi I-" Andie was silenced as the elder flashed her a look and nodded towards the children. Mi-Mi was the nickname that Andromeda had given her grandmother when she was a child. She couldn't say "Mishka" so Andie called her "Mi-Mi" instead. Mishka had every young dragon in the clan come to her one day a week and hear stories about when Mishka was a child and before the war. The children, who were very fond of Mishka, called her "Mother Mishka".

"Four thousand years ago, when the first dragon had set foot upon this land..." Mishka was telling the story that every dragon alive knew by heart. It was the story of how dragons came to be. The children echoed the story, knowing it word by word. Andie, bored, looked over at the group of dragons who were separating into parties and getting ready to start the day. She wished she could go with them, but today she was her Mi-Mi's aide.

Boulder nodded to Anarai and spoke, "Do you want to eat before we go or just go?" He wasn't hungry yet, but he would eat if she was hungry. He nodded at the small pile of leftovers from last night's supper.

Essence heard the soft sound of claws on bark and swiftly crawled around the side of the great redwood and noticed that another dragon had decided to use this tree. He heard the pleading cries of two children below, calling to the female dragon, wanting her to play with them. She refused and seemed to get lost in her own train of thought. Clearing his throat, Essence glided down to a few branches above hers and spoke, "Nice view, eh?"

Anarai shrugged. "I'm fine right now. Let's just go ahead and leave," she said, stretching her thin, silvery wings in preperation. Despite the fact that Boulder had no wings, he could run at incredibly high speeds. In fact, Anarai had a hard time keeping up with him when he was running at full speed.

Nadiana jumped, letting out a hiss of surprise. Her heart pounding, she looked up, her green frame relaxing somewhat as she recognized Essence. She still remained a bit tense however, incredibly awkward in any social situation. "Uh, yeah, I guess," she muttered out.

The awkward feeling she was currently experiencing was practically a physical force in the air, and her tail twitched as the feeling only grew stronger.

Boulder nodded and headed towards a pile of rocks - which had an odd tunnel that ran through it. Barely glancing back to see if Anarai was following, he pushed himself into the tunnel and headed for the opening on the other site. Pushing through a lichen overhang, Boulder took a moment to analyze the silent mountain peeks that surrounded him. He waited a minute to see if Anarai had followed, making sure he didn't leave her behind.

When the dragon looked up at him, Essence noticed that it was Nadiana. He noticed the awkward tone in her voice and decided she probably did not want to be talked to. Although he had an alleged high rank, Essence didn't have many friends within the clan - and he desperately longed for one. Not wanting to pass up the chance, Essence continued to talk to her.

"Are any of your parents fighting in the war?" Seemed like a pretty good conversation starter.

Anarai followed the wingless dragon through the rocky tunnel, the fresh mountain air somewhat stale inside the cramped space. She emerged quickly, and spread her wings in anticipation. "Let's go," she said, beginning to flap her wings.

The powerful muscles that connected the wings to her shoulders worked smoothly, lifting her into the air. Anarai faltered only slightly, and soon was hovering above Boulder, waiting for him to lead the way.

"My parents are both dead," Nadiana replied immediatly. She only felt a little sad about their deaths, mainly about her mother and the fact she had never gotten to really know her. "But it wasn't from the war," she added on for clarification.

Boulder nodded to her and broke into a run. Pulling himself through the mountains, he gained speed and the muscles under his leathery dragon skin rippled. Rocky climate whizzed past him as he dashed through the mountain range. Gradually, the mountain range leveled out into a hill-like landscape. Slowing down just a tiny bit, Boulder continued his sprint across the grassy landscape.

Up ahead, the grass turned to dried scraps and the ground was almost black. Boulder slowed to a stop and gazed out over the barren wasteland. This place used to be lush with grass and herds of deer and elk that were always plentiful. Now it was but a mere burnt and ravaged hole in the earth. The wasteland stretched out farther then Boulder could see, and a distant screech pierced through the air. "Anarai!" He called to the other scout.

As curious as Essence was, he could see that she clearly did not want to talk about the death of her parents. Not yet anyway. Though, behind her eyes, he could see that something was troubling her. More sympathetic then curious, Essence asked, "Is something wrong?" Noticing how he sounded as though he was butting into her business, he added, "As leader while my father is away, I uh... have to keep up with the clan." He knew the excuse was bad, but the sight of someone in distress bothered him.

He dropped down a branch and lay down, claws scrabbling against the bark as they tried to get a good clawhold. Essence rested his head on his feet and waited for her response.

Anarai dipped in low, landing lightly on the dry, lifeless ground. "Just call me Rai," she insisted, folding in her wings partway. She held them slightly open, since she would soon take off into the air once more. A breeze tugged at the thin membrane, and she pulled them in a bit closer.

"Well...yes. But it's kind of confusing," Nadiana admitted. She was surprised to find herself opening up a little to him.

Bic://"Rai." Boulder corrected himself and nodded in the direction of the screech. "Lets head that way." He progressed in that direction in a steady trot. Another screech pierced the air, louder this time, and Boulder sped up just a little bit. Up ahead, a large wooden tower loomed over the wasteland. Sitting at the top of the tower, a small red dragon sat.

Opening his mouth, Boulder let out a deep caw - a signal that was supposed to let the dragon know the scouts were there. The dragon tensed and turned to see who it was before recognizing the forms of both Rai and Boulder.

"If you don't want to talk about it, then you do not have to." Essence told her and curled his tail. As much as his curiosity ate at him, Essence did not want to scare her off and ruin a perfectly good chance at friendship. He was just about to say something when the loud roar of dragons came from deep in the forest. The noise got louder and louder until three dragons burst from the undergrowth. The three of them were panting and wheezing from their run through the giant trees and the one in the front, a bluegray brute with red eyes, called to the clan. "Gather!" He called, obviously needing to share news of some sort.

"Lets go see what news they have." Essence said to Nadia, preparing to fly down to the clearing below.

She took to the air once more, spreading her wings wide. Gliding on a current of warm air, she followed Boulder. A small red form clung to the top of the tower, and Anarai recognized it to be Juno. She settled onto the roof of the old wooden tower, digging her talons into the creaking surface. "What are you doing out here?" she asked curiously.

Nadiana nodded, shutting her mouth. She had been about to actually open up further, but the interruption served to break that moment, and she became closed in once more. Gliding gently to the forest floor, she recognized the three dragons; the blue-grey one at the front was Kuzo, the bronze one in the back was Sarzan, and the female was Charla.

Each was panting, obviously tired. A glint of urgency glimmered in Kuzo's red eyes as he called for the dragons to gather together.

Boulder ran after her and leaped at the tower, scrabbling at the old wood until he got a clawhold. Pulling himself up the side of the tower, Boulder reached the top and sat down next to Juno. Rai asked him a question and he responded; "Maheo sent me to bring news to the scouts who would come today." He said, mentioning the warcheif of the Northern clan, "Are you the scouts?" Boulder nodded and he continued, "The worst battle in the history of the war surged last night. We lost nearly half our forces but we took down half of the Southern army as well. It was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. Blood. 5The blood of my friends, family..." He stopped and shivered, revealing a fresh wound that stretched down his back.

Boulder closed his eyes and imagined the scene. A shallow lake of blood covered his feet and thousands of bodies lay around around him. Some were alive and others were completely still. Blinking open his eyes, Boulder shook the image from his mind and waited for Juno to continue.

Essence flew down to land in front of Kuzo. "Kuzo, what is it?" He demanded. The clan crowded around them and the eyes of Sarzan and Charla grew frightened. Once the whole clan had gathered, Essence asked again. "What happened?"

Ooc:// Characters like Kuzo, Juno, Sarzan, and Charla can be played by both of us if you want ^_^

Anarai's green eyes opened wide. "Who all was killed?" she asked urgently. She felt sick to her stomach with the feeling of dread; she had lost family in the war already. She was in no hurry to do so again. Her tail lashed in anxiety as memories of her deceased father washed over her.

The distressed dragon struggled to keep her pain locked away, deciding to deal with it later. In her urgency, she repeated the question; "Who all was killed?"

"Our fighting forces have been depleted by around one-half," Kuzo panted out. Worried murmurs immediatly started forming, filling the camp with a worried buzz. "It was just last night that the fighting surged," Charla jumped in. "We took out quite a few of their numbers, but...it was horrible. They reduced are army to half of its orignal size," she added with a whisper, memories of the fight still obvious in her mind.
