Thinking about it the other day I realized how much one person doesn't really think about this organ. But if you think about it is the only thing keeping you alive, that to me is really amazing also given it responds to emotions like love and fear make it even more so. So tell me about your heart?

It's pretty amazing how the heart works. It's been doing the same thing ever since before you were born, and all the way up until you die. If I was a heart, I'd be pretty bored of my job by now. XD

I never really thought much of my heart it was an organ I cannot see or control of my own free will but given its inside my chest doing its job everyday keeping me alive is pretty amazing.

^ I was thinking the same thing. Your heart is just another organ in your body to keep you alive, it has nothing to do with emotion or feeling.

Besides, the brain is the most important organ because it controls all your other ones and keeps you alive.

emotions come from the brain, not the heart.

Yay brother made a cute smart and sweet topic yay!^^ one thing that sets it from other parts of you, its the only part that always sings a hymn, and its always truth, the heart can't lie only the mind can so when you get a deep feeling inside that you shouldn't do something that you want to do, or feel something not right and debating to go threw with it or not, best way I can put it is your heart and mind are at war, one side is false other is true which honestly does explain that feeling ya getXD

You did bring an older topic back to life. However, it's not all that old.

That being said, those who spoke here of the heart as just an organ that keeps you alive is correct. There is no emotional function or reaction in the heart whatsoever. It is purely bound in the brain where the emotional centers lay. Specifically in the amygdala [sp.]. The heart is simply a pump for the circulatory system. And it would do very little to keep you alive without the autonomic section of the brain, which controls all involuntary functions of the body. The brain, in truth, is what controls all life functions in the body and, without it, the body would be unable to function at all.

People in the distant past probably got the notion that the heart was the center of emotion (and, specifically, love) because of the rush of adrenaline which then causes the heart to pump faster, even race, when emotions run high (and there was that whole ancient idea of the heart being the seat of the soul in some religions). The heart does react to emotional rushes, after all...and that helps get the blood to places in the body where it is needed according to the particular emotion and its external stimuli.
