What's your opinion on this episode?

Strangely, this is one of the episodes I remember the best. It's pretty different from what you expect from TaleSpin : no air pirates or villain, no real "depth" but only gags throughout the whole episode, and very exagerated ones (TaleSpin tends to have realistic ones, usually) In fact, it's almost a parody of TaleSpin...

And this makes it one of my favorites. In this one, we see Baloo complaining to a lazy mailman who doesn't even know what to do with his letter : "you deliver it!!!" (inverted roles? eh eh) Pretty funny to see that, FOR ONCE, he's ready to do whatever it takes to make his delivery as fast as possible!

We see Becky getting suddenly rid of her "Baloo needs to do his job correctly so that I can run this business and make money" attitude. And because of that, she starts to like him! (and even kiss him)

Although there's one thing that irks me. I've always thought that Becky's need for money was due to her saving money for her daughter's future (studies and all). And here, she just spends everything away on jewelry and useless gadgets...To me that doesn't fit the character, but I guess this was the only way to make this episode work.
But I admit she was attracted to jewels in other episodes, so maybe Becky has a problem with money and she is torn between spending it and saving it. (just like she it torn between running her business and loving Baloo and Kit)

There's also the bad animation. But even with these flaws, it's one of the episodes I've watched numerous times because it makes me smile everytime. Especially the ending (seriously, the first time I watched the episode, I couldn't even believe that he actually DIDN'T make it! and to see his and Becky's reaction is...priceless  )

Agreed,Rebecca/Becky,should be spending her earned money on Molly's future, instead of just wasting it all away on things like jewelry for herself.

Not my favorite, but I agree, it was very funny! And as far as I know, it's the only episode in which Rebecca kisses Baloo.

Yup, she should. Bad, bad writer! I remember reading that Talespin had a lot of writers, so that may explain some of the differences between episodes.

I've always thought that this episode would have been a wonderful ending to the series, if by that time they'd known they'd only get one season. With a slightly revised ending, Rebecca could have still gotten /part/ of the prize money, enough to make her stop worrying (like she did throughout the entire episode) but not enough to make the gang filthy rich.

Even though the actions seem a bit over the top, research shows that most lottery winners have initially little idea of what to do with their winnings. The first reaction, and this is witnessed first hand by people who 'handle' winners, is normally deep and utter relief. People suddenly realise they don't have to worry about losing their jobs anymore, or something unexpected happening that will wipe out their savings.

In Rebecca's case, I think the realisation hit almost straight away that no matter how her business ran, she'd be set for life. That means Baloo no longer had to be punctual, because his performance would no longer directly reflect on her financial situation. Molly, I believe, would certainly be assured of a college fund, or university fund if that's how her future went. For some reason, I'm practically convinced Kit would too.

Once all that is settled, once those long term financial goals and worries are out of the way, the question creeps in as to what to do with the rest. You'd be surprised how many people don't think of 'sound investment'. They have, possibly for the first time ever, enough ready money to get /anything/ they want. Cars, jewellery, even yachts... those are the external signs of wealth we've grown accustomed to, and there is a nagging psychological drive to join in. This, naturally, burns through the winnings rather quickly, which is why a lot of lottery winners end up destitute. Oddly enough, the more you win, the more likely you are to end up penniless.

So in short, Rebecca's behaviour was actually quite normal for a lottery winner. I'm convinced she'd have put enough aside for Molly (and Kit), and with worries of (business) failure out of the way, she'd have likely found time to appreciate Baloo's relaxed attitude a lot more. This would have been the perfect solution for the oft dysfunctional crew, and would have made a perfect Disney ending to one of the best animated series they ever produced.

Oh, and as a closing thought... if you think Rebecca went over the top, how about Baloo after he rescued Khan?

Reminds me of that Family Guy episode where the Griffins win the lottery.

I watched this episode on May, before my final exams. To be honest this episode was fun to watch, but I consider it that should go to the list of TaleSpin mediocre plot episodes. It was funny to watch Baloo being responsible for a while, actually I stressed out when the old man at the mail service asked what he should do with the letter, like Baloo. I actually wanted that this episode ended well, I mean that at least Rebecca could get her prize.

The top funny moments of the episode, for me were: Rebecca buying lots of expensive stuff before even having the money, Baloo buying that bunch of food and I said to myself: Man, he's got bottomless stomach!, Baloo trying to get the delivery service with the remaining cash he had, and finally when he couldn't get on time the expression of his face and the attack he had in that moment were priceless.

Not my favorite episode, but it was funny. I would give it a B-.

If I had millions, I would "loan" the rights of Talespin out of Disney to make a traditional animated film of the series. Really, I would! Shame I don't have that money...
